Nice little car, would definitely be at the top of my list. And while the N is fantastic the N-Line is a great drive and Hyundai is building cars with great panache these days. I haven't driven the hybrid but it's good to know it's still got some spirit. That one only has 1600km on it too - I find Hyundais in particular loosen up, go better and use less fuel once they've got a few ks up. I'd expect the economy to improve somewhat as it ages. Personally I like this style more than the newer design language on the sedan which I find a bit... challenging... Kudos on getting the video out so fast too Brett, it looks like you only filmed that yesterday afternoon lol

@@mahcooharper9577 Thanks mate. I was the first booking I think. It had about 850km when I picked it up. So yes you’re probably right, it could run better and more economical after another 2000-3000km running in.

I just bought one of these yesterday. I chose the i30 N Line Premium in Shimmering Silver along with black Suwon Satin Black Alloy Wheels. I cannot wait to pick it up next week! I took the base model for a drive and loved the car. The only thing that annoys me is the alarm that goes off if you do 2km over the speed limit. You can turn it off but it's a pain to do every time you get into the car. I hope they update the software to address that soon. It's not cheap but I really like the look and the tech in the cabin. Car cost more than the previous n-line but the engine got downgraded from a pepppy 1.6L turbo to a gutless 1.5L mild hybrid turbo. The previous one was a fun little "warm" hatch.

Thanks for the review, as always great to watch. The braking is a terrific figure which is about the same as the sedan. If one is not fussed on whether they buy a hatch or sedan, I got to say it appears to me that the Hyundai's own N-Line sedan is much better value than this new N-Line hatch. The drive-away price that I have for the Sedan N Line Premium is $46,678 whilst the Hatch N Line Premium is about the same at $46,119. The sedan looks more aggressive, has the more powerful engine, 150kW/265Nm, a bigger boot, appears to be more modern, and has a spare space saver tyre. Whilst very disappointedly the hatch only gets a "Tyre Mobility Kit (TMK)" as noted on the Hyundai Aust website specs; why no spare tyre Hyundai??.
@drivingenthusiastaustralia
@drivingenthusiastaustralia 4 ай бұрын
@@nicholasmatthews5989 Yeah I forgot to mention that sorry - it has a tyre repair kit. It might have something to do with space and the position of the hybrid battery. I’ll find out and edit this comment. Edit: Yes, the LiPD Li-Ion polymer 0.44kWh battery is located under the boot floor. It sends energy to the 11.8kW e-motor/generator attached to the petrol engine.

I wish reviewers would spend more time talking about Hyundai's warning systems being obxious. It's fine to turn them off for your review but in the real world, living with these cars is very different due to these "warning beeps". Simply turning them off every time you start the engine is not practical.

Great review Brett. It's disappointing that Hyundai didn't bring the manual transmission version to Oz - that would definitely be more fun, although it would be even slower on the drag strip, and I suspect that most people would go the auto anyway. Can you confirm what kind of tyres it has? I did a freeze frame at 1:12, I can see that they're Michelin's, but I'm not sure whether they are Pilot Sport 4's or 5's. I'm sure that Hyundai's decision to put really good tyres on the car helps a lot with roadholding and braking.

I would buy the manual , if you look at the times of the old 150 kw 1.6 the manual was just faster than the dual clutch 7 speed, the reason is that the dual clutch is a little slow off the mark kind of almost hesitates to feed the power quickly , with the manual that's not a problem

Missus has the previous SR model. This seems like mostly a downgrade for more money. Fun fact, when they went from SR to N Line you lost smart cruise. Does the new N Line get it back? Edit: your write up calls it navigation based adaptive cruise but only on the premium model, interesting. Hatches are less of a sales leader now so I guess that explains the lack of improvements in this car.

@GoogleAccount-pt4zu

This is such a massive downgrade, why would Hyundai still call it an N Line, compare this car to say a Sonata N Line and they are worlds apart in terms of performance, Hyundai should keep the N Line badge to their sporty trims, I know N Line isn’t their top of the line hardcore performance range like the N, and this car isn’t particularly targeted to be a sports hatch in any way but it’s very confusing when it comes to marketing. The previous i30 SR/N Line with the 1.6 turbo 150kW/265Nm was very peppy and zippy and punched above its weight, I’m not saying its a speed demon but it had good practical performance for daily driving and even gave certain larger 2.0L turbo cars a run for their money, this powertrain can’t even surpass the MG3 Hybrid and would struggle to overtake a majority of cars on the road if you want to give it a quick punch of the throttle.
