The 2025 Lexus LX700h Overtrail in Nori Green Pearl brings an electrified twist to the brand's flagship luxury SUV, but this hybrid is not just about fuel economy. Instead, it is focused on delivering more power, better off-road capability, and a refined driving experience while maintaining the presence and prestige that the Lexus LX is known for.
Under the hood, the LX700h Overtrail pairs the same twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V-6 from the LX600 with an electric motor integrated within the 10-speed automatic transmission. This setup results in a combined output of 457 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque, a notable increase over the LX600's 409 horsepower and 479 pound-feet. The hybrid powertrain not only enhances performance but also improves responsiveness, making the LX700h feel more refined and powerful on the road. Lexus claims it can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in about 5.5 seconds, making it half a second quicker than its nonhybrid counterpart.
While the hybrid system does provide a modest bump in fuel efficiency, with an estimated 20 miles per gallon combined, it is clear that Lexus prioritized performance and refinement over significant fuel savings. However, one of the most interesting engineering decisions is the redundancy built into the system. Unlike other Toyota hybrids, the LX700h includes an additional starter, alternator, and auxiliary 12-volt battery. In the rare event of a hybrid system failure, this backup system allows the gasoline engine to run independently, ensuring the vehicle is never stranded in remote locations. This is a feature the Toyota Tundra and Sequoia hybrids lack, giving the LX700h an edge in reliability.
The Overtrail trim takes the LX700h's capability further with off-road-focused enhancements. This version of the LX comes with front and rear electronically locking differentials, a skid plate for added underbody protection, and 33-inch all-terrain tires mounted on 18-inch wheels. The adaptive suspension, equipped with Active Height Control, allows the body to raise by as much as 4.5 inches for added clearance or lower slightly for easier entry and exit. While the ground clearance remains at 8.1 inches due to the solid rear axle, the Overtrail proved its capability on challenging terrain, demonstrating excellent wheel articulation and precise throttle response.
Inside, the LX700h Overtrail embodies Lexus luxury, with premium materials covering nearly every surface. The front seats now come standard with a massage function, a feature that was missing from early LX600 models. A refrigerated center console adds convenience, and rear-window sunshades provide additional comfort. The Overtrail trim offers a five-seat configuration, eliminating the cramped third row found in other LX variants. This choice significantly improves cargo space, a welcome trade-off for those who do not need a seven-passenger layout.
For those who opt for the three-row configuration, the hybrid system's battery placement slightly reduces cargo capacity behind the third row, shrinking it from 11 cubic feet in the LX600 to 7 cubic feet in the LX700h. Additionally, the third-row seats no longer fold into the floor but instead fold onto themselves, creating a higher cargo floor. While not ideal, this setup is balanced by the inclusion of a 2,400-watt AC inverter and a three-prong power outlet in the cargo area, making it a practical choice for those who need power on the go.
The Nori Green Pearl paint accentuates the LX700h Overtrail's rugged yet sophisticated styling, making it stand out in both urban and off-road environments. With a starting price of $115,350, the Overtrail sits at the top of the LX lineup in terms of capability. While it does not offer a drastic improvement in fuel economy, it delivers more power, greater refinement, and an enhanced off-road experience. Lexus has ensured that the LX700h Overtrail remains a luxurious, capable, and technologically advanced flagship that stays true to its heritage while embracing a more electrified future.
