Well one thing that doesn't help with retention is congress has been eroding our benefits outside of a better GI Bill in the 24 years since I joined. There use to be so many different things that added up, that no longer add up as a benefit. I just heard a guy yesterday talking about getting out at 17 years because he hadn't been promoted to E-7 and has been eligible for over 7 years, and thinks he can get a $130,000/yr computer job if he got out. Use to once you went over the 10 year mark, most road it out. Now that we are so interconnected by the social media and internet, people know how much it can be better in certain jobs and branches and less stress in some civilian equivalent jobs. More people are willing to give up the pension and medical because of the BS by some of varying levels of leadership dropping the ball. I know until I hit 17, I was very close to punching out numerous times. But here I am still 24 years later. There's just something about being able to call it quits any time and you'll have that retirement, and every day you stay, the points keep adding up. But I have the old retirement system and not this new trash where you have to rely on the stock market to have a decent retirement. That's the thing with gambling--might end up better, but you better hope you're not retiring when the market crashes and wipes out your earnings.

Gen Z here. I’ll feed the algorithm for you and throw my perspective in. I think a big factor not many people talk about that turns otherwise patriotic people like myself away from the military is nobody wants to fight for a politician’s stock portfolio. I grew up around spec ops guys from Seals to CCT’s who have encouraged me to join for the positives you’ve highlighted and discouraged me for the reason I brought up. Disregard my civilian opinion, but I think it’s a huge reason people don’t join. Personally I didn’t, mainly for that reason. I’ve also been in an active shooter confrontation, didn’t fold but would rather not experience that again especially for a cause I have reservations about. It’s a growing sentiment that none of the wars we’ve fought since WW2 have been for the American people and the next war sure as hall won’t be.

If world war 2 was a war that was worth fighting for the American people and it's government, then why is there some wars where countries have divided government and start inperializing allies as one of the same reason why the u.s engaged into war with another country while defending it's country alliance. The u.s got involved with ww2 because of the pearl harbor attack and France being invaded by Germany. 2,403 deaths for pearl harbor attack, 9/11 twin tower attack had 2,996 deaths and the u.s went to war in Afghanistan. As gen z'r, i feel like everyone talking about this story isn't really hitting on the point that needs to be made here. It doesn't matter if gen z is physically or mentally capable of joining the military, they will draft you no matter what if the need arises, your ADHD or bipolar disorder won't stop them from shoving a rifle in your hands and throwing you to the meat grinder. The only gen z'rs that i know that would make good soldiers, would rather fight our own government than die for the security of its global empire. The irony is, a draft would only spell it's end.

Also, the amount of Gen Z kids that'll be DQ'd is likely huge: the stats on how many of them are prescribed drugs for mental health reasons are staggering. Once that becomes more common knowledge, I bet we'll see a massive spike in the amount of ppl going to psychiatrists to get diagnosed. That, and their fitness level will be abysmal on purpose. Trying to draft Gen Z is gonna do far more harm than good, particularly to Gen Z.

Greek ex military officer here to give a new perspective. Most of the western countries hate their own men, putting a clever a capable guy into a fighting position against an enemy while you treated your own men like shit (and I mean it in the extreme way ) is a good way to send more men to the enemy's side . Also sending a woman to the frontline is a recipe for disaster cause if she make a mistake many men will try to save her this losing more capable people to save one. Sure there are some women that are built for this but they are the exception and not the rule and they're far too few

I am a chilean woman and here is y perspective: 1. I understand why western men don´t want to go fight for their country that hates them. Here in Chile politicians pass bill after bill inspired on radical feminism that treats men like shit, why should they fight? Plus, traditionally men went to war to protect women and children, but we live in an era when women don´t wanto to be protected and they will not even protect to life in their womb. If they not respect and protect life, why should men protect them? 2. Women should not be drafted, they should join the army only if they want to, and they should only do secondary jobs. The front line is not a place for women, for the same reasons you explain. Plus, if she falls in the hands of the enemy, men will risk their lives and the mission to save here, there is no way they are going to leave her behind.

I think the part about the whole situation is the fact that my generation truly and genuinely believes this not a nation worth fighting for anymore. We can sit here and chat about gen Z all day but we’ll never get anywhere if they don’t talk to us. This generation sees the impossibility of getting a good home, it’s not abnormal to have 10-30+ sexual relationships by the age of 25-30, so they don’t have a wife to fight for or home to protect. They get taxed up the ass, the inflation and interest is drowning them financially. Healthcare, goodluck. Education cost is predatory. Infrastructure is falling apart at the seems. No legislation has really been passed to fix any of this. Corporate greed, I know sounds left as shit, but it’s true. Gen Z has nothing to fight for. Our elders fucked it all up. There’s a reason the alternate name is “the lost generation”. I’m a veteran, gen Z, so I can see both sides. If the US Government wasn’t such a predatory system they wouldn’t need to institute a draft. Young men left right and center would volunteer had they been taken care of. Gen Z are veterans and the Government is the VA. They don’t give a shit about us. Politicians wouldn’t even spit on us on a hot day. Whole country’s fucked up.

@@ValhallaVFT I don’t disagree. I too went over seas, I have an American Flag that was flown over the White House in my honor. I’ve met with Congress, several times. I personally know 3 astronauts. I’m very much so a patriot. Like we can sit here and say my generation is “weak” and “coddled” and blah blah blah. They said the same shit about the kids that stormed Normandy. You can’t compare your experiences, because you, we, volunteered for it. It’s not applicable here. You had something worth fighting for, they don’t. That’s the difference. This generation has no purpose. They are known as “the lost generation”. I’ve watched NCO’s scream at Soldiers who grew up in Afghanistan calling them soft. Like you have no idea, about anyone. You were backed by the biggest military and best training in the world, and the government wants to throw these kids to the wolves, and your response is “you’re coddled”? After the Government took everything already? And what they didn’t take they let the Corporations have? You tell everyone else they play the victim card and every single time the first thing out of y’alls mouth is “I had it so bad, that deployment fucked me up” like, NOBODY forced you to do it lmao. Instead of telling this generation “get hard” and shit, maybe we should be building the country back to its former glory, so that these men and women can come home proud, with a country that wants them back. You’re really gonna attack this upcoming wave of warriors, after we watch every generation of veterans get absolutely PP slapped by this society? Gen Z isn’t the one blowing their fucking brains out 22 times a day brother it ain’t about being coddled or being hard. Turn your aggression to the appropriate target cause it’s not your kids and nephews that are the problem. There are some shit country’s and societies out there, trust me, I know. But those kids aren’t signing up to fight for it? They’re innovating and getting active about making their nations a better place. Tf is the point of fighting for this country if you can’t even get a home? You don’t even LIVE HERE type shit 🤣 Finally, though we may disagree on the quality of our generations, I still love your content and from one warrior to another, you are loved here big fella. I volunteered after 9/11 and spent 6 years active Marines. After I got in I volunteered for flight duty as an aerial gunner in helicopters. I remember my interview and they basically said that this is hazardous duty and it’s dangerous. I said sign me up. I flew in combat in OIF and it was 110% the hardest thing I have ever done. Mentally and physically. Everyone on our crew was a volunteer. Even on the worst of days, everyone wanted to suit up and get some. I would say, especially on the worst days, when the grunts were in contact or needed a dustoff, or we had to insert dudes to snatch some bad guys…. my guys brought their A game every time. I can’t imagine going downrange with a bunch of people who don’t want to be there. That said, my wife’s grandfather was drafted and sent to the Korean War. He served as a machine gunner in the 24th and 45th infantry division, and spent 16 months in combat. He was probably one of the toughest and most patriotic dudes I ever met. But I think that was a different era. A better era. Semper Fi🇺🇸

@@ValhallaVFT you might be okay with the elites squandering our sacrifice. I’m not. I’m not gen z. I spent 17 years in and 4 combat tours between Iraq and Afghanistan. I was med retired for combat wounds. They knew both Iraq and Afghanistan were unwinnable and sent us there again and again anyways. And for what? Money. That’s what. They did the same to my dad and his generation in Vietnam. You think honoring the fallen is blindly following orders. I think honoring the fallen is making sure we don’t get into wars we aren’t willing to win in the first place. We don’t have the moral high ground anymore. Until we do, I agree with the gen z sentiment about the corruption of the system. Our government and most of the people simply aren’t worth serving in the first place. Covid proved that. It’s gonna get worse before it gets worse. If a draft arises, I plan on doing my duty by arranging appointments with draft board members and piano wire. I highly doubt there’s going to be a draft lol I don’t think the U.S. govt has military capacity to fight a civil war that would highly likely erupt over that. I think most good Americans in the west, south and Appalachia would rather die fighting the current federal govt then fighting for it in some geo political distraction. The mentally of if you’re going to die might as well die like Socrates not as some Neo slave gladiator, like a live free or die mentally seems increasely common. Texas Republican Party has changed its platform to pushing a secession referendum I think and now Texas is building its own stock exchange. Texas is projecting military power through border proxy seemingly also. So you’re going have domestic non state and state actors ready to fight the fed if there’s draft I think. I find it a bit hard to believe Americans are going to just roll over and allow the fed to drain their communities of fighting aged individuals given the political movements and political instability in the U.S.. I find a hard sell that the fed won’t need to fight and take the jungles of Appalachia and the mountains of the west before drafting people to go die in some socialist Neo peasant army so Raytheon can increase its profit margins politicians can protect investments in Ukraine lol

I agree with a lot of what you said. As a 13 year Logistics Army War Veteran I to believe there are so many things all the military branches could do to overhaul and improve all current active serving veterans lifestyles, work environments, training and requirements such as improved realistic real world training, not just classroom brainwash training of things they'll never actually do or use in the real world because what they teach in a classroom environment is set for an unrealistic perfect world where everything works and runs smoothly and perfectly. Promotion boards also need to be massively overhauled and improved were 80% is all about knowing your MOS job inside and out and what it means to be a good leader to those around you and the other 20% can be on PT scores, weapons qualifications, uniforms, and maybe a few other specific topic subjects. Just so your aware dude, you stated there are like 400 million Americans in the United Stated and according to Google the current population in the United States is between 336-341 million. I completely agree that every single American out of high school, that is physically and mentally capable of serving his country, should conduct mandatory service for 2-4 years worth with few exceptions like they got a full ride scholarship to college or they are fully planning on taking over a family run business etc. Mandatory service would help the younger generation mentally and emotionally grow and evolve so much because they lack discipline, patients, maturity, focus, integrity, trust, respect, belief in themselves, communication skills, and the overall desire to push themselves mentally and emotionally to become stronger because they just want everything to be easy and handed to them for instant gratification! So, they really need to be broken down in order to be reshaped and rebuilt into something better. Back in the day, from my understanding, when women didn't have much rights but men did it was due to the fact that men could be drafted for war but women couldn't and yet at one point we just gave women a bunch of rights but didn't require them to be drafted for war to fully earn those rights. And I've seen plenty of videos were women hate working and having those rights because they don't want adulthood responsibilities to have to take care of themselves and pay there way in life. Most of them want all the positives of adulthood but they want to avoid at all cost any and all negatives. So, I would suggest that all adult women are given the choice option for themselves to give up all their rights to the government or to a man, which means the government or a man has to take care of those women and keep them safe, alive, and healthy but they do what they are told, or if certain women want the same rights as men, then they can have all those same rights, but to fully get those rights they sign up to be drafted just like men do and they can only decide to change their minds every 5-10 years on whether they want to keep and have the same rights as men or give them completely up, because people do change overtime as they get older. If interested I to am a KZbinr under my Full-Name with the same profile picture as this post. So,one day I went to the Warriors exchange on Hood ( it's since been renamed )met an E-7 there who worked up in PERSCOM,we started talking and he told me were so-CLOSE-to an actual draft,so close it wasn't funny. And what the government wanted to do was send every unit, brigade, every swinging &&&&,the entire Ft Hood to Iraq, then recall prior service under 60 % disability back to active duty to run Ft Hood.I was-FLOORED-by this information, they needed bodies-BADLY. This left a deep enough impression on him that he told his three sons that he never wanted to see us join the military. I was in the active duty U.S. Army for 8 years and only joined as a stepping stone for the civilian world. I thought it would be scary and hard. Let me tell you something. It’s not that scary and not that hard. It’s hardly like the movies. The movies only show like 20 percent of it. As a matter fact I’d say it’s equal with the civilian world, exactly equal if you include overall concept of life, in the civilian world you may still run into bad people, unfortunaly can still be murdered and may struggle financially, etc. the military isn’t that bad, trust me. People think a draft is literally the end of the world and literally think there life is downhill if drafted but it’s not. In fact I think the military is a great choice. Don’t listen to these people who say, don’t join, you die, you’ll get raped and won’t get justice, you don’t make much money, it’s all an urban legend. And like I said all that can still happen in the civilian world anyways. It’s not just about war, you play sports, you literally work out an hour a day Monday through Friday, it’s part of your job, you have to workout, you get 3 free meals a day, free healthcare and so much more. If a draft happens and god forbid my number gets called up i hope i can get into small arms repair rather than a combative role. Honestly though, idk why you woudl ignore vets saying how horrible it is to fight in war. There are a large amount even saying that on this video, while sure the military can straighten out your life it comes with major costs. Was it good for people who were sent to the early years of iraq? Was it good for those in Vietnam. Gulf war who got gulf war syndrome? Is it good for those that have trouble adjusting now? Thats not something you can just ignore. If thats something you understand and are still willing to go then more power to you. I feel as though our biggest worry is were going to fight a major power in conventional warfare which is something we've never done since WWII and seeing war footage from Ukraine really shows that, no one in this world is ready for warfare like that. Personally if it cane down to it while i would be afraid as everyone is to go fight, id personally be fine with fighting rag boy rather than potato or rice boy.

The war did nothing but waste American lives and treasure for 10 years. In reality, it almost tore America apart. The only winner in that war was the US military/industrial complex. The Vietnam war was a result of American imperialism and paranoia of Communism post WW2. Like I said earlier It was an Asian civil war...not a battle for the Free World. It had absolutely nothing to do with American freedom, safety and security. It's not as if the Vietnamese were going to invade the U.S. and enslave us under communism. They just wanted to be left alone. Truth be told they didn't give a damn about communism. Honestly, do you people think before you post such silly comments? They were nationalists. That's what they were fighting for. To remove all foreign powers and for Vietnamese independence and sovereignty. In fact one villager in South Vietnam joined the Viet Cong after the ROK marines ( South Koreans who were our allies during the Vietnam war ) massacred his village and killed his family. That was what motivated him to join the Viet cong. To rid his country of all these foreign powers not to spread communism.

Brutal reality is a lot of bad policies and a lot of bad self serving leadership led to our current predicament. The Afghanistan withdrawal was a disaster. I don’t like the idea of sending a bunch of teenagers fresh out of high school and college kids to serve as meat shields for a foreign conflict that most of our officers are Ill fit and undeserving to lead. I’m not willing to trade the lives of a bunch of borderline children for virtually nothing. Our so called leaders will reap the benefits and the those youngsters will have their lives pretty much destroyed. And if you think there is no chance of war think again. If they want to have an elite and efficient fighting force again start by cutting all the bs and properly incentivizing it

There are numbers out there on recruiting over the past decades...but start by looking at dropping testosterone levels, dropping sports participation, and reading levels averaging 5th grade for high school graduates. I'll add that after covid there is a strong argument that the national average reading level dipped to a low of 3rd grade. There are plenty of other factors such as obesity, drug use, prevalence of child mental health disorders, etc. 20% passing rate seems overly optimistic. And sadly, the military went from inducting recruits who could pass the entrance requirements...to recruits who MAY pass the requirements with 6 months of training...years ago. People often look down on service members because they didn't choose college. In reality it is tough to qualify.

Thermobaric bombs don't really care how brave or skilled someone is, only how far you are from the detonation point...which has to be pretty far, because it ignites the atmosphere, sends out a pressure wave measured at about 120 atmospheres, and then creates a vacuum that sucks the air out of your lungs...and maybe the lungs themselves. It is not a blast you want to survive, because all your organs WILL rupture; there won't be shrapnel, you will just be turned into a human omelette.

The main problem I have with conscription: If a war breaks out, all the potential defense industry engineers are gonna be stuck fighting or fixing in the military instead of progressing military technology, and just becasue someone is college material doesn't mean they are officer material. So most of these college-material kids are probably just gonna enlist, and because of that, most of your engineers are dying instead of designing missile platforms or radar detection systems. So unless we made a specific department in every branch of the military for just designing weapons and selling them to the government, then we'd be 50 years behind our adversaries.
