The Brutalist with 10 nominations makes me so happy. My favourite film of the year. Thrilled for Anora, The Wild Robot, The Substance, Sebastian Stan, Jeremy Strong - all movies & performances I liked this year. Shocked Conclave underperformed a little. Not as shocked by Dune Part 2. Usually it isn’t until the last film in the series that they really go all in on it. I better see Dune Messiah nominated everywhere. I would swap Mangold for Villeneuve/ Audiard for Berger in a heartbeat. I’m Still Here in Best Picture is still the shock of the night but a welcome one. From everything I’ve heard… Can’t wait to see it. I don’t think Emilia Perez should have 13 nominations. Wow.

What about all the cast & crew who worked hard on The Brutalist! You are just writing off hardworking people over a line of dialogue in a 2 minute scene. The Brutalist is just as deserving as another film nominated this year!

I find it very interesting that unlike most other years, it is the female acting nominees that have stronger crossover with Best Picture as opposed to male ones (this year ALL 10 nominees across the female acting categories are in Best Picture contenders, while only 6 of the 10 male acting nominees are in Best Picture contenders this year). In most other years it is usually the reverse.

James Mangold being nominated was likely due to him being loved in the industry. He’s been around for so long. Remember, he made Girl, Interrupted. So I can see him being “finally recognized” by lots of American directors and maybe even some international ones 🤷‍♂️
