Very nice frame. Great to see some bike shop pushing the love for steel road bike! I was riding a carbon bike but now riding a bespoke steel bike and from my experience the steel bike ride more comfy with 23mm tires than my previous carbon bike with 28mm tires. My steel bike is also significantly faster than my old carbon even up hill (the carbon bike was about1 kg lighter). Most of people doesn't realise that for normal use at amateur level a good steel bike would bring to them a happier cycling experience. A lot of my cylcing buddies get legs destroyed after one high intensity session because their high end carbon bikes are far too stiff for their legs capabilities, they can push hard on saturday but can't push anymore on sunday ride. My steel bike allow me to do more training without destroying my body that makes me faster at the end. This is, in my opinion something that a lot of amateur riders don't take in consideration.

@@lecoachdefrancais-5983 i agree…light, stiff, aero are benefits to carbon but they can get negated quickly if the ride quality is poor. Lab testing does not account for the squishy, soft human body that sits on the bike for hundreds of hours per year. As I age, my appreciation of this fact increases with each ride on the Ritchey. There could also be something to the “planning” effect of the BB moving with your pedal stroke…this little bit of budge could also be helping the body…idk to each his own. I recently bought a lightly used pair of older shimano shoes without a full carbon sole…i have newer ones with full carbon soles but the slight bit of flex in the older version agree with my feet more. Again, could be i’m just getting older and my body prefers everything softer or if you believe comfort is speed, it could be an advantage to have some flex in your shoes too…why stop there ??? I also prefer my Rolf Prima Vigor aluminum wheels to my 50 mm carbon wheels…again not as stiff but stiff enough and way more comfortable…

@@christopheryack580 I had the exact same experience than yours with shoes. I tried carbon sole shoes for about a year and when I came back to my old entry level first shoes (shimano RC1) it was a releave for my knees and felt more freedom and less stress to push harder and longer.

Good news Ritchey doesn’t drop rim brake. Yes price is a bit high for a steel frame but when you compare to other niche brands we have here, it’s half of the price! And not more expensive than a low end carbon frame. Groupset are still available so why wait? I left a comment before and will do it again love the Ritchey Swiss Cross but could not get along with the Ritchey Road Logic, was the blue one, special edition, had Dura Ace 11s mechanical and Hunt wheels, Ritchey Super Logic kit, under 8kg with pedals, rode nice, climbed nice but not fast enough for the fast groups, i had to work so so hard to maintain over 25mph and did not feel good. I own many carbon and not carbon frames, Tommasini Tecno, Waterford 2200 , Colnago Master and they all have similar characteristics, Ritchey Road Logic felt the most modern of all of them but one bike that beats them all is the Cannondale Caad12, 1kg lighter, smart formed tubes, supper stable and so so much nimble , as much as i like the steel and Ritchey frames, unless he comes out with something newer this Road Logic does not cut it for me. The Swiss Cross cantilever model is SUBLIME. 1x set up GRX 46 chain ring, 11-44 cassette , 38mm Conti Terra Speed on Campy wheels, will never sell it .
@christopheryack5806 күн бұрын
I understand this sentiment. I came off an aluminum Spooky Skeletor...very stiff aluminum frame that I rode for 13 years. The Ritchey is so much more comfortable. It suffers on fast group rides compared to the aluminum frame. This is due to the surging and fast steering needed in a fast pack ride. I still have the aluminum frame and may build it up again as a second bike...but at 53 years old, I am in much better shape after a 3 hour ride on the Ritchey. The aluminum was really beating me up. I'm not any slower on the Ritchey., in fact I have some PR's on some longer rides...this is 100% due to the suspension like quality of the thin tubed steel frame. The steering is not as precise as the aluminum frame and I'm not as confident on 35+ mph descents...but the juice is worth the squeeze. I have back and joint issues and my body feels way better riding this bike. I sometimes miss that ultra stiff ride where you can feel every crack in the road and you know exactly where your wheels are but that comes with a price I no longer want to pay = my bones and soft tissue getting smacked around. The Ritchey surprised me. I had been equating stiffness to speed, but this is not the case. It is similar to riding 23 mm tires at 120 psi. That seemed like a good idea until the word realized wider tires at lower psi was not only more comfortable, but faster. Steel frames will never replace carbon and I would say you are at a slight performance disadvantage when going full gas out of the saddle or sprinting on steel....but that is such a small percentage of riding. I wouldn't call the Ritchey a crit bike, yet some kid got on the podium last year at crit Nationals on one.

@ I'm still dialing in the fit on mine. I recently moved my seat back to match my previous fit but haven't ridden any descents yet. Theres also a slightly narrower bar and eee brakes going on soon...with a Wheeltop eds electronic group. Because of my dimensions...I ride a 70 mm stem which makes for some sketchy handling above 35mph. I live on Long Island, where there are few descents longer than 1/2 a mile. But crappy road surfaces??? Oh yeah...we got hundreds of miles of that stuff
@SeeYouUpTheRoad6 күн бұрын
@ oh dear lord 70mm stem is super sketchy! I ride a 120mm totally tames the bike down. Ha ha it sucks to have crappy roads. We have tons of mountains here all within a short bike ride from the coast. Tomorrow’s 200km has 8,000 feet of climbing most of it in the first 70 miles with no mountains but lots of foothills with 1-5 mile climbs and descents. The Road Logic is extremely stable at speeds over 50 mph that 70mm stem is definitely giving you a bad impression on how the Road Logic handles descents. Once it warms up a bit I’ll be back in our local mountains 5,000 foot 15 mile climbs AND a 15 mile descent 😉 Follow me on Strava www.strava.com/athletes/5473

ciao george. fabulous mop-doo. great shop talk. i have 2 of these, one is a breakaway that has visited many hawaiian summits. the anti-rust coating and forged-in headset cups are super nice features, among many. however, being a smaller rider, i still find them a touch firmer than ideal, more in the performance sense than comfort. if you jump hard and the bike doesn't bend enough to load up, it's too firm imo. the industry has sort of completely lost that aspect of the design. laterally firm but vertically compliant doesn't solve. and, the deep section wheels are also way too firm.
@SeeYouUpTheRoad6 күн бұрын
@@rodjonsson813 you like the top knot? 😂 Yes I think now with everything getting stiffer/lighter there is no room in the design for a little flex for comfort. Flex became a bad word for racer types and that unfortunately has eroded ride quality for us recreational riders. 😭

@@SeeYouUpTheRoad remember when frames used flex enough that some fd rub was normal and you had to be careful not to jump too hard as to cause shifts. it's all overbuilt now, especially for smaller riders and women. definitely not better for comfort, likely not for performance either.

Must be winter, Mr. Grumpy! I'd be interested in specifically which other frames coming out of Taiwan that you can buy for far less that you're comparing with the Ritchey (have you actually ridden one?) While no bike is perfect for everybody, the Road Logic is a great choice for a lot of people. I love my 2018 (same frame, different color) and it sees at least equal riding time with my other two steel road bikes, both custom built for me by two of the best-of-the-best American frame builders (Albert Eisentraut and Tom Kellogg if anybody's asking). I'm going to stick my neck out and say that the production Road Logic, with the latest modern steel, tig-welded by top notch welders (in Taiwan, where you can still find workers with these high-level specialized manufacturing skills) is going to be objectively lighter, stiffer (sorry George! 😜), more precisely mitered and assembled in a controlled environment required by thin heat-treated tubing than anything that came out of Tom R's personal workshop back in the day. My customs are also special, partially because of their builder's known pedigree, but the Ritchey is my choice for a lively, push-the-watts, try to hang with the fast boys and girls as an old guy kind of day, and it feels super good! I long ago traded in my Carbon bikes, a Colnago C50, and a Cyfac Gothica, both high end superbikes for my current steel livery, for the reasons George brought up. And I'm not looking back!

@@zoufyj185 You mention Tom Kellogg and that made me laugh. I had a Merlin titanium RSR that had Tom Kellogg's name on it and it was the worst bike I ever owned. That bike almost killed me when I was flying downhill at about 50mph. You've heard of death wobble? I sold that frame with weeks of that happening. I have a US frame builder working on a new bike that's just about done, it just came back from paint. I selected the Columbus tubing and lugs I wanted and I know Columbus has a remarkable history of producing the finest tubing. I really couldn't find anything about Ritchey's tubing other than it's just a claim made by marketing. I tend to select my bikes and components based on facts, not just because someone says this is a good product. For example people say Industry 9 hubs are great hubs, that wasn't my experience with the Torch hubs. The first time I tried to service the freehub I had to pry the cassette off to get it removed because it chewed up the freehub body so badly. I'm not trying to say the Road Logic is a bad frame, I simply said I wouldn't pay $1700 for it. I'm not wanting to argue with people over this. Comment sections are for people to leave opinions.
