Shimano and everyone, take note: we like silver. Not everyone likes black.

The last Shimano that isn't black that I've used is the Alivio groupset that's 3x. I don't know why they don't make silver components as options.

While I too love silver components. The last silver group that Shimano did was the GRX limited edition. From the sales prices I was seeing on those groups, they did not sell well.

11:00 the noise cancelling knobs probably refers to having some variation in their spacing so that the noise profile is broader rather than having a few peaks, so that it is closer to white noise rather than a music note. That's what they do for motorbike and car tires.

I was running some pre "noise cancellation tech" 650b x 48s, Juniper Ridge I think. My friend said it sounded like a an electric car was rolling up behind him. Another friend put some noise cancelling 700 x 55's on his MTB. So much quieter. So maybe "cancelling" is relative to how noisy the knobbies were before they spaced things differently.

I run Conti Race Kings on my commuter and RH Humptulips Ridges on my gravel bike. The RH tires are quieter on pavement. Not silent, but quieter. Different shapes/profiles and spacing, so not super scientific, but one anecdote. Also, I bought them for ride quality, not sound - and they are by far the best clincher tire I’ve ever ridden on gravel.

Run a piece of cable housing on the exposed cable, that way you can run your frame bag traps over it and not pinch the cable. If you use the larger diameter brake housing it will be even less friction, and brake housing will withstand the pinching of your frame bag straps.

I've run the knobby rene herse tire and thought they were noisy and draggy on pavement, the extra light casing wept for me even with the recommended panaracer sealant. My favorite dirt focused tire, with short pavement, is the Pirelli Cinturato gravel M. Quiet on the road, traction in the dirt.

The ritt dye works great, Ive dyed strangely colored parts brown, black etc. Its good if you want to get ride of white stitching on a seat, Ive used it to match up some socks to a kit, lately to dye those KOM red quick releases for their bikes computer mount black. I even tossed in a set of schwable TLE that came in a terrible cream color and dyed them a nice chestnut sidewall.😊

Great build on a great frame - above and beyond on the details - nice! I ride an XL built up with Ekar for 95% gravel use: 9.5kg and rides like a dream. My gripe is that Ritchey should make an XS (so my wife can ride one...). But like most Ritcheys, smooth, great handling, quality details and no BS. A really versatile frame that will do it all from gravel race to bikepacking.

I have the René Herse Umtanum Ridge 650x55 on my Outback and they are definitely very quiet and vibration free. I have them at 50PSI slightly less than the max at 55.
@michaelcinibulk9500
@michaelcinibulk9500 11 ай бұрын
Why so high pressure? I'm 180 lb and ride 38 mm tires on road at 50 psi. How much clearance do you have on your Outback with the 650x55? Could you run fenders? What do you think would be the max tire width to run fenders in 650?
@peterhehn9511
@peterhehn9511 11 ай бұрын
@@michaelcinibulk9500 I actually have full aluminium fenders and the 55's fiit well. I have them at 50 psi because they roll well at high psi in the cold! Most of my riding now is done on the Outback until we get snow in Montreal, then it will be with a fatbike. I could send you pics. Honestly with the 650 x 55 and full fenders, this is by far the most comfortable I have ever riden. I have many other bikes but none come close to this level of comfort. Hope this helps!

It looks pretty sweet. I love the extra TLC on the hoods & derailleur. Makes it special. Enjoy! I am also find dumbed-down & illogical marketing exacerbating. However, to me these Rene Herse tires are the quietest and smoothest big knob tire I have every ridden-by magnitudes of level(I'm very sensitive to noise and vitiation). Jon & Rene Herse gets a pass because the tires perform and they have done more than most to combat bike industry myths.

just sold my bike that made me sit down and spin for miles.. a 96 Rocky Mountain Cardiac with foam on the climbing bars and a short but high stem setup fenders racks wife approved seat and a full STX RC-Deore LX mixed 93-96 parts 170mm cranks 21spd MRX gripshift. cantilevers and all black parts other than the wheels and a few random bits. the 2021 Norco indie 4 doesn't really fill it's place that whole noise cancelling thing is when they have different sizes of the same block pattern. almost never seen on bikes but very visible on automotive. at high speeds a single repeating pattern will create a drone note and having it alternate will spread that around a little... cancellation.. lol well you have two tires both creating the same drone. Curious about what you think about the outback compared to the ascent? I recently sold my road logic (albeit w/some regret ) and for the past month kept going back between picking up either an outback or ascent frame. Ultimately decided on the ascent--mainly due to it having a stack/reach that is more suitable for me.
