As well as lineouts, it would be good if refs enforced straight put ins at scrums.

I remember those scrums with argentina when the ball would just sit in the channel until one team started getting a shove on.

Think you are wrong on the line out where if there is no competition and the throw is not straight then it's play on. The new law defines "competing" as lifting a player. So how do you defend a two man lineout? As the defending team stand there with the lifted player - taking both out of the game. Or you decide not to compete and the side throwing in can throw direct to the scrum half/receiver or direct to anyone? The team defending didn't compete by lifting - so play on. Badly thought through law.

Already teams have found a way around the not straight/uncontested line- out rule: one defending player in the line-out jumps several inches unassisted (and is immediately available to maul) thereby making the line-out contested

Not sure about the scrum half being behind the centre of the scrum but open to changing on that I do like the recent change preventing the protection of kick receivers

Agree. That was a good law change.

Still permitted to dance around in the line out ? Should be stationary, feet on the ground before the throw.

In theory, players arent allowed to leave the ground before the throw. So players aren't allowed to do fake jumps where their feet leave the ground. Changing positions is allowed also but only before the ball is thrown - here's the law: 18.20 Players must not jump or be lifted or supported before the ball has left the hands of the player throwing in.

@ Thanks, I meant all the position changes in the line. Personal preference, I appreciate that would potentially introduce delay as each side waited for the other to commit, perhaps line up by scrum position, pre defined.

Oh boy! More to confuse us and the players. More reasons for the referee to interpret as he chooses. More penalties. People who watch a game of rugby generally enjoy watching players running with the ball in hand, not seeing repetitive long kicks for touch, or matches won just by penalties. Time will tell, whether the game wins through, who knows. I’m just aware as to how people are dropping away from their interest in the game. Even some Saffas, we have over here.

Officially as of the 1st of January 2025. Maybe some leagues have chosen not to apply it till next season?

lineouts not straight is dumb alot would win there ball so it would be useless having lineouts if u cant contest or u can throw some off its something extra to think about i dont like it tho seems kinda messy

When will they make a law against officials wasting time on decisions? This is not American football and don't try and take it that route. Or when will we see a law where officials gets punished for bad calls or a poor performance?
