Shape of Water still got 2 actors In though. Most didn't predict Brutalist for ensemble but Guy Pierce missing is still an absolutely huge strike against the movie. He was the consensus number 2. The movie also missed a couple guilds.

Octavia Spencer’s absence in 2018’s came as a surprise, as she was strong Oscar contender. With respect to Pearce he may actually win BAFTA (the only serious threat to Kieran Culkin there) - with BAFTA right in the middle of Oscar voting. Brody, director, BP are all heavy favorites at BAFTA.

Because you read out the cast members nominated for the Cast, I just realised two Fiyero's are nominated in the same category for two different films! Obviously Jonathan for playing Fiyero (He in fact got THREE SAG nominations yesterday because he's included in Bridgerton's cast nomination!) AND Norbert Leo Butz who originated Fiyero on Broadway is included in "A Complete Unknown" Cast ❤❤ You most likely don't care but that was quite a fun thing to realise as a huge Musical Theatre and especially "Wicked" fan 😅

I am so happy to see Pamela to get nominated. I am rooting for Demi Moore to sweep from here onward, her GG win solidified the love she’s getting from industry peers, and her comeback narrative works in her favour. I don’t think Mikey Madison is too green and unknown to be awarded the top prizes, she might have done well with critics. What Demi had to do in The Substance is so outside of the box and her comfort zone, that bathroom scene alone was so sad and terrifying at the same time! It’s the year of Demi Moore!

Let's be real here, I think we need to stop calling Wicked anything close to Barbie. It's really nothing like Barbie at all, except for the female demographic. Except for the one thing, it appeals to all demographics on all levels and is doing spectacularly with the awards bodies, especially the actors branches. The tech noms are guaranteed and it might actually get editing noms. What? I'm also trying to make a point about is that wicked is going to be paving its own path instead of looking at the path of other films. Since it crushed it with nominations, we can possibly call it the front Leonard if it wins SAG ensemble. It's pretty much set to win and now we are underestimating how much of a force to be reckoned with it is. It's clearly paving its own path and it's going to shock everyone. Maybe Jon M Chu could actually make the Oscar nomination for best director, and the editing Branch could award the film with an editing nom simply because of how much they love it. It's so unpredictable, but maybe we need to take wicked morning seriously as a Best Picture contender. It has all it needs to win now, if they can pull this off at the Oscars. This film also has drama in a way that Barbie never did. It's paving its own path like I said before.

I have a film school friend I trust a lot on industry know-how and tattle, who reminded me when I reacted strongly about this that SAG, in sort of the opposite way that the Golden Globes has been becoming more of a genuinely prestigious award as it's membership has been adjusted, is maybe trending more towards the less serious end year by year, supposedly due to more and more 'influencer' types being allowed in and forming a voting bloc. Take that for what it's worth, especially if SAG this year ends up not too great a predictor.

Fernanda Torres was ineligible for SAG so there's a chance she can also make it to the Oscars. Sebastian Stan I think his votes might've split, because Jeremy Strong made it in, it means SAG didn't ignore The Apprentice. He'll definitely get the BAFTA nom since only The Apprentice is in the longlist, and they definitely liked it because it made it to six categories. Stan still has a chance at the Oscars.

Honestly, I’m not shocked about Pamela Anderson’s nomination. She did one of the best performances this year for the last showgirl. This is a woman that it’s been judged for her beauty and we are shocked because she never had the chance to be in a good role… and now that she is in a good, she did an amazing job. I personally don’t prefer to see Torrez more than Anderson, in fact, I prefer to see Anderson or Demi, more than Kidman, Jolie, Thilda or Winslet this year. It’s soo good and refreshing to see them in good movies and too boring to see the same actresses nominated every year .

As a music theatre afficionado, Emilia Perez as a film is whatever, but as a musical, it is god awful. It is musically meh at absolute best, and, the cardinal sin of the genre, the songs do not drive the storyline in any meaningful way, which is the entire point of a musical. Listening to the recitative sections in EP actually hurt me as a singer. Wicked isn't in my top 5 musicals personally, but it's quality in terms of the artistic form is undeniable. Stephen Schwartz is an absolute master of music theatre scoring.

I think this year is chaotic because each film has a flaw & not a certified masterpiece like Oppenheimer or even Barbie. We know Emilia Perez faults. The Brutalist is too long & the epilogue sucked. A Complete Unknown is just a straight forward narrative, Conclave had that tack on suprise ending, Wicked is only part 1 & the 16:39 color grading is iffy, Dune is only Part 2 & came out too early, Anora is a little quaint movie with an over done subject, Showgirls belongs on network tv, Maria is too contrived, Baby Girl sexually makes people uncomfortable. The Substance third act was trash (Demi Moore would win for only one scene. The mirror scene.).

Also the reason Brutalist is not getting the same love as Oppenheimer is somewhat due to the movie still not being released in a lot of countries... Oppenheimer had a global release as I remember it. Brutalist premiers in february over here...
