My big gripe is the removal of ultrasonic sensors and failure to add a rain sensor. Sensors are still more effective that Tesla Vision, and their return would suppliment Vision as a corroborative input (similar to Boeing's solution for the 737 Max). From someone who has driven a Model 3 Highland for six months the gear shifting on the screen actually isn't much of a problem. It works ok and most of the times (although far from always) it will correctly select the right gear when you get in the car and press the brake pedal. The indicator buttons on the other hand are a nightmare. I still often fail to indicate when I exit smaller roundabouts and it removes my attention from the road every time I have to find the right button while turning the steering wheel. This solution should not be legal. It also drives me nuts when the car suddenly feels the need to take over braking or steering for no apparent reason. And I can't even turn that crap off. By the way Elon Musk has also been a huge source of frustration for me since I bought the car (our second Tesla btw.) so I can confidently say that I'm buying a different brand next time.

Not only that, but the 2025 version was less money out the door despite inflation, though offset by the tax credit which wasn't around in 2020. So not only is it a superior car, but it also has 140 more miles of range for less, which is pretty wild considering the average new car price in the US has increased from 39k in 2020 to 48k this year. Re stalk removal. Turning buttons just bearable but not as good as stalk. I stuck a luminous dot next to left turning signal ( RHD model ) to reduce confusion when the steering wheel is upside down leaving a roundabout Gear selection without a stalk is pretty good , especially for automatic forward or reverse selection but in an emergency when you need reverse quickly ( car in front rolling back towards you at traffic lights ) it is much slower. Access to high and low beam is not as good as a stalk and often requires you to divert your vision from the road. With stalks the controls are always in the same accessible spot , unlike buttons which change with the movement of the steering wheel. Interesting that Tesla removed the radar while a number of Autopiloted Tesla have collided with overturned cars and trucks in the dark, where the driver or the Autopilot could not see the object and hit them head on (in some cases causing loss of life). I am glad that neither Ships, Boats and Aircraft have not remove radar, as visibility is never a given when driving a car, piloting an aircraft or boat.
@jeremyventurino948116 сағат бұрын
Rip Kobe. Radar could have saved him. In all reality, these systems people try to rely on are really just a crutch. They have value, but all major manufacturers have radar for cruise control etc and people still wreck their cars. Having a radar sensor won't stop your Toyota from hitting a wall, barrier, or overturned vehicle. None of these systems have been perfected. If you drive blind through a fog relying on a sensor to tell you it's safe, then you have to be willing to accept the risk.

Can't talk about new teslas, but my M3 LR goes blind, and basically doesen't work in any of the following conditions and combinations: Fog, Heavy Rain, Light rain and dark. What makes the above an even bigger issue is that one pedal drive makes it a horrendous experience do drive without CC or AP, since every small adjustement to the gas pedal have a direct effect on the speed of the car. It might be better in the future, but for now, cameras aren't really a great solution in areas with harsh winters.

I bought the cable kit to restore the 4 front speakers. I bought Tesla's subwoofer and added that. And I bought the Alpine speaker kit. Now the front passengers have better sound quality than the model 3 dual motor. I also bought Unplugged Performance Luxury suspension kit for the SR+. The car rides smoother and more sporty and responsive than the dual motor. The Dual motor is much faster 0-60 but the RWD model 3 with the better suspension feels more fun to drive.

Of all minor gripes I have with my Y, the windshield wipers suddenly turning on with not a cloud in the sky is the worst. No real world impact it just looks stupid and is annoying. I have to take my eyes off the road and futz around with the screen to turn them off or actually activate them with my left side stalk so that the interface is displayed allowing me to use the thumb wheel to set the wipers to off. Truly a case of high tech being worse than the old tech. I could use voice commands, but I find that works about 1 in every 3 tries, which turns a stupid situation into a Saturday Night Live sketch.

Firstly, I'd like to mention another cost cutting measure not documented (kept quiet) and not mentioned in this video is a security feature removed, namely the tilt sensor to detect if your car is jacked up. I do disagree with.a few points in this video relating to their importance or the implication that they were the right decision/not missed. I think the notion that removing data from usb's in the console "made sense" is incorrect, if data is only available in a closed glovebox, does this mean if you want to play a game with a wired controller, you have to have the glovebox open?? Stalk removal was just a cost cutting measure and Tesla's weak argument for data input is mute considering you still have to do that with the buttons which is arguably more difficult with a steering wheel hard turned with the buttons now upside down and back to front. orientation.
@dvader326316 сағат бұрын
To operate the turn signal, it is best to signal the turn with the steering wheel buttons before entering the turn, not while in the turn or circle. That is also what FSD does.
@healeydave15 сағат бұрын
@ I was thinking more of changing to exit a roundabout. Normal left and right turns are easy because you generally going straight with the wheel up the right way. Small roundabouts are ok with the buttons.

Good video. So no reason not to buy a new Tesla. I have a 2020 Model Y with the radar. It was kind of fun sometimes seeing the vehicle in front of, but completely blocked by, the vehicle directly in front of my car... For this to happen you'd need a line of cars bumper to bumper in both lanes, or a Jersey Barrier wall and the cars. I don't think the windshield sensor is a big deal. I turned them on and off for decades. One thing owners should be aware of: When that tiny windshield camera 'box' above the rear view mirror gets heated and cooled, eventually enough plastic is evaporated and then deposited on the inside of the windshield that these cameras begin to be obscured. But even when it's really bad you have to get just the right light angle to see the foggy haze. This happened to me sooner than most because I live in sunny Southern California and park outside. As the film builds up , as you drive into the sun in the early morning and late afternoon, the windshield wipers turn on (to clear what ever is obscuring the cameras..) It's worse when you're driving FSD. This only gets worse and worse, but a quick trip to Tesla service gets this cleaned up. I was there for about 45 minutes. As far as I know this isn't owner serviceable.

Tesla also removed front fog lights from the Tesla model 3 highland. My 2022 Model Y still had them along with touch / scroll wheel functionality to turn them on and off, but this has all disappeared on my new 2024 dual motor model 3. I suspect these will also be removed on the Model Y refresh. I don't think Tesla will ever achieve full auto drive capability on the Model 3 / Y due to the number of sensors they have removed over the years. Tesla vision may be good in the sunny weather of southern California, but it soon fails in harsh weather, such as heavy rain or fog, or in high latitudes countries such as the UK when there is winter sun at low elevations that overloads one or two cameras, taking them off air along with auto pilot. I think Radar / LiDar are key in combating some of these issues along with increasing the number of camera's, including front bumper camera, configurable light filter options, infrared cameras, and heated screens around camera apertures etc to keep them clear of moisture / mist. I want any full driving car to have vastly superior sensor capabilities than myself, otherwise I will continue to drive it myself. The fact that my Tesla model 3, like my previous model Y, are also poor at detecting rain and either doesn't on the wipers when it's raining, or turns them on when it's not raining, further illustrates the point that removal of sensors may save cost, but at the expense of functionality, and worst case, risk to life. I think Tesla will fail to obtain any urban FSD certification in Europe without inclusion of LiDAR and additional proximity sensors. Don't get me wrong, I love my new 2024 Tesla model 3 dual motor, but it's view of world it drives in is often less complete than my view of that same world, especially in the UK, when road junctions can be more complex and even confusing for an ordinary motorist, let alone a FSD car that fails to see all sets of traffic lights at a junction or correctly identify their state, as this may vary from straight ahead lanes compared with left and right filter lanes.

Tesla Vision has also big disadvantage compared to radar. It is known that ice will affect both radar and cameras, but fog on cameras affects only vision and that the reality in cold countrys at the moment. Tesla vision is useles in winter especially the front camera now that the heating element have dowgraded. Tesla Vision is useles until you get your whole car so hot that even the front camera can see, so 90% on times you leave without any Tesla Vision and only on long yourneys you can have vision.

I can't drive 40 miles in the 24 without my back hurting. I never had lower back issues in the 21; seats were way more comfortable and adjustable. Honestly, I miss the ultrasonic sensor accuracy and was hoping to see more benefits and upgrades in the 24, instead, it feels like I down graded going to the 24. At this juncture, I would be happy with any vehicle that had a roof sunglasses holder; even the cheapest vehicles have a dedicated place for sunglasses and garage door openers, not Tesla?
