I think the beefier aero bikes look better (Gen 7 Madone, Ostro VAM 1.0, Aeorad etc) than the new hybrid style with aero front and thin stays. But I live somewhere with a lot of mountain climbing in addition to flatter road races and crits, so having one bike that is aero enough but also climbs well and is compliant in the rear is probably the optimal solution. The zero offset seatposts that seem more common now help balance out to a more aggressive position at least.

Funny you mentioned the Zero offset seatpost. To Me that’s the only way! 😫 I’m been converting all my Bikes to the Zero offset and I’ve been loving the *fit WAY better! Are you riding a 0 offset as well? #RobbArmstrong

@@robbarmstrong8702 not yet, I have a setback. I want to try zero offset since I tend to sit on the front of my saddle especially during any efforts, but I'm not sure it will work with my current fit, might need a +10mm stem, time to start experimenting.

Good on you for focusing on the looks of the bike. Most bikes have all the performance, so the look is what really differentiates. I like the slim, clean shapes of this new machine.

Thanks Robb. Appreciate your video. I just got a Scott Foil RC. It was a Team DSM bike from last season. Wasn’t looking to go full aero but grabbed it. It’s nice. Gotta see the Madone in person though…the black n purple SL7. Could be tempting. Cheers!

Gen 8 goes back towards the roots of what the Madone started as, but not that first Gen 5 Madone with the brake flaps that I fell in love with. Very glad I got my Gen 7 while it was available, will be iconic for years to come 😊

This is opinionated, but I think the pinnacle of the Madone design was the Gen 7. I have a Gen 6 Viper Red Madone SLR too, and I can't believe I'm saying this...I miss the chunky, oversized bottom tube too. Also, I think most of the aero claims of this bike are predicated on the new aero bottle shape, which makes their aero claims whack. That Ledl-Trek paint job is heinous.

I agree! I think the Gen7 looks the best! I do like my Gen6 but I’ll take a Gen7 as well, 😆 I actually like the Lidl-Trek paint job. It grew on Me. Initially I wasn’t feeling but after awhile and seeing it in-person, it’s pretty 🔥 #RobbArmstrong
