Nuradin is right though. For THIS particular system it is easier to convert a winger to a wingback than a fullback to a wingback, wingers are generally more technical on the ball than fullbacks.

United players right now are simply devoid of confidence and afraid. They went into the Newcastle game scared. Center backs afraid of stepping into midfield, midfielders afraid of getting a hold of the ball, wingbacks afraid of running forward. It’s really strange because they were very good and positive against city. Dalot was flying up, Martinez was stepping into midfield, midfielders were okay with holding on to the ball. I think with time and one or two signings and we’ll bounce back by February I’m sure. The culture of the club (team on the field) has been appalling over the years. When things go a little bit off script they panic and revert back to their hoof ball, impatient play and amateur mistakes.

The manager doesn't have to change his system, but changing the formation from 3-4-3 to 3-5-2 would do us wonders. It's still a wingback system, but with more stability in midfield. Drop Lisandro, play Yoro - De Ligt - Mazza. Play Amad - Case - Kobbie - Ugarte - Antony in midfield. Play Rasmus and Joshua as front 2. This is the best team we can put out right now. It can change into 3-2-3-2 (or 3-2-5) with Case and Ugarte shielding the back line and the front 5 just running riot in the attacking third (4 of those 5 are technically secure, can link play, and can create). When we have to defend, the team can transition into 5-3-2 or 5-4-1 with Rasmus staying up top and killing teams with pace on the counter. Keeping possession, defending, and sustaining attacks shouldn't be a problem against the majority of teams in the league. I believe in the manager, but he has to change something.
