He brought great times for a few years to Irish football for sure and I believe he is underrated for that period and EUROS performance - but he completely dropped the ball with Grealish and especially Rice by not capping them. His tactical decisions in the Denmark playoff games were rightly criticized also.

@@steve94galway If two English born players do not want to play for Ireland you can't just cap them. The players had not agreed. It's not as simple as just throwing them in and that's them stuck playing for Ireland for the rest of their career and clearly they didn't want to. They are both English. My first memories of Martin were as manager of Leicester in the mid to late 90’s. He always struck me then as a hot tempered but fair man. He seemed to mellow a little bit by the time he was at Villa. Don’t get me wrong he was still no shrinking violet, but he seemed more measured, calmer when it was needed rather than always flying off the handle. And he’s remained that way even in this interview. He always really thinks about what he’s going to say, he’s very analytical and measured in his answers. He never just blurts anything out. I really enjoy listening to him. Great guest, I thought quite out of left field. Now Keano decides on the biscuits and the guests.

Martin’s a proper legend, the change he made to Celtic still resonates today, without him we don’t have the success we still enjoy🍀

I’m only 30 so far too young to know about Forest, and also growing up with the Premier League. I can’t comprehend what Forest and Clough did as there’s nothing to compare it to. Wow.

Imagine forest winning the prem this season, then champs league next year and then champs league again year after and it still wouldn't quite match it because they did it straight after promotion

@@bjj9711 Leicester was a one off lucky season and Porto have always been one of the best teams in Portugal. Neither come close to what Forest did. Greece was a great achievement but was also a one off over a small number of games.

Genuinely comes across as a decent chap. In my top 3 Villa managers and certainly the best for consistency. He’s achieved as both a player and manager. Great bloke.

Seeing Roy and Martin leading the Irish side back then was the coolest thing in the world to me as a kid. Roys a hero of mine and Martins a legendary Irish coach
