Jay, nice fly, I’m passing your site on to my two brothers who are also Steelhead and lake run trout fisherman…great quick proven fly.

Guide flies are always good. Guides use a lot of flies and don't have time to mentally traumatize themselves about how many legs on a specific pattern , you understand that fish don't count them. You need effective flies that you can produce quickly. A Hoh-bo spey if you use them, might be worthwhile. Thx.

Good idea, I may do that in the future.

The copper chenille Jay used to tie his steelhead wooly bugger works well as a thorax too. Thanks for the video Jay!

Now, if I could just figure out which chair squeaks during Jays videos I’d be all set! Suggestion: why not send Rick over to the hatchery prior to each fly tie video to film the holding tank so we can see just how many fish have escaped our grasp. I’m sure the hatchery’s closed but we could always start a “go fund me” page to bail his ass out if necessary!
@JayPeckGuidesLostRiversFishing26 күн бұрын
That would be a really good idea, Besides Rick probably could use A break from shoveling snow

I enjoy your fly tying videos a lot, glad they are getting traction finally! Hoping you’ll do some of your favorite spring creek dry flies for the spring. For this particular pheasant tail, you mention you’re tying it in a ten for visual purposes, what size do you find yourself fishing it most of the time?
@JayPeckGuidesLostRiversFishing26 күн бұрын
i will fish that fly sizes 8 and 10

Great guide fly tie. Fast and effective. Epic smoke alarm battery change. Thanks for the laugh. What steelhead fly would be your go to for the salmon river late February?
@JayPeckGuidesLostRiversFishing26 күн бұрын
On the Salmon River in late February, There's often a winter storm fly hatch. The steelhead in the upper river will definitely be keyed in on these bugs

Nice nymph Jay. I've noticed a theme on other tying channels since watching your last stonefly video and now this PT nymph. Fat thorax, dark wingcase, and some sparkle. And, like you, are guides. I wonder who influenced you besides Carl. Thanks Jay.

That is an interesting question, My inspiration comes from a lot of tires I meant over the years.

Just wondering if you have any experience or an opinion on the old Teeny pheasant tail nymph/leach. As far as easy, one material flies, it is king. I used it years ago when I first started swinging flies in my Lake Michigan Tribs. And it served me well, but as time moved on I forgot how awesome of a pattern this was. I plan on putting a few in my late winter box and hopefully the fish will find it interesting. Anyway…. Thanks for the videos and good luck in all you do.

Hey Jay, you often mention how much steelhead love 'bling'...may it be flash or legs. What is the biggest, flashiest nymph you will fish dead drift or under an indicator? I know some swinging flies are mostly flash.. is there anything in your nymph box that compares? If so.. we would love to see it!! I had some days this fall when i managed to get up to the SR where it seemed like bigger flies out fished your typical patterns significantly (In some high pressure/population areas) Thanks!
@JayPeckGuidesLostRiversFishing26 күн бұрын
There is definitely times When we fish flies that are too small. Under any indicator, I will fish Stone flies as big size 6
