Jay, this was great! Thank you for making it and sharing it. Curious to know if you’ve specifically made any videos about how best to fish drop-back season? I know you cover this in various ways over several videos but wondering if you’ve specifically made one dedicated to the topic specifically?

I enjoy your channel very much. Thanks for the great content. In my opinion, I think this is the best steelhead channel on youtube. Keep up the great work. Now that it is winter, showing the fly tying videos of the flies you use is great to see. Some who do not tie flies might not like it but you show us when you use the fly and how you is use the fly is very helpful. Thanks for the great work.

Thanks again for the report. Thank god it’s over, I’ve been walking around the house the whole video trying to figure out which smoke alarm is beeping! I would be curious as to how many fish are up in the hatchery? Is it packed full like last year at this time eliminating hundreds of fish from doing battle?

Size 10 and 12 stonflies with various hot spot thorax has always been my standard. Copper chenille, peacock, red ice dub. Throw in some variants with fluorescent green, pink and orange biots and beads. Also 60 second flies and mop flies work well.

The weather can be a deterrent to some anglers. I found in 2023 during the blizzard conditions on one day the steelhead and browns were feeding. Throwing a egg carrying leach above the Altmar bridge was phenominal. I had the the entire water from just above the bridge to the first sharp turn upstream. Cold yes yet fishable if your prepared. Tight lines Jay.
@JayPeckGuidesLostRiversFishing12 күн бұрын
That sounds like a great day on the river.
@DavidBrownell-n5r27 күн бұрын
Jay. Great video on fly tying and instruction on floats. I may try the floats next fall when in the middle of the day seeing the fish is much harder when I cover many of the deeper holes from the Altmar bridge down to the power lines. Tight lines .

Jay I know where you’re standing but I won’t tell. Good success with zonkers ( olive) rabbit tied on a 2 or 3x long size 8 or 10 with a sparse red hackle up front. Last Saturday Nov 23 fishing was terrible on the Salmon probably from the weather change, I stayed home but my buddy and several accomplished fisherman got skunked. Jay is right stay away from the crowded spots, I know it’s difficult with all the private property but places like the (petting zoo) fly zone are too crowded, fish are getting pelted with lead every 30 seconds. Thanks for the video and all you do jay. How about a video on your most productive stones for steelhead? After all it’s a staple up there.

Thank you for all your information Jay. I just started to learn the amazing castabilty of a spey rod. I purchased a Marksman 2 s series 13' 8" Hardy from Melinda's in Altmar. Your tying videos always have a new tidbit of information even for tyers like me. Even after 35 years of tying I enjoy seeing all the variations available. Since 1989 the Salmon River has had interesting changes. Looking forward to this Steelhead season. Tight lines Jay.
