I never meet Mark, but heard he was a character and creator of the carpet fly. I found places on amazon to buy small skeens of yarn and hope to crank out a few of his creation. Ill never go thru 7 big skeins of all that yarn.

Another great fly and thank you for spending some time to review the materials before tying the fly. Most often I end up tying with materials on hand. Reviewing the materials gives me a better chance to match up my material to be hopefully close enough. Take Care

Always a pleasure to watch how you tie your flies. If I may, if you use Danville 6/0 thread it lies flat. Bill Hunter once told me to then use your dubbing needle and rub the head and the thread will further flatten. There after you can apply what ever head finish you prefer. The heads will have a nice appearance. It is very interesting to me that you deliberately provide "shoulders" to have your hackle stick out. You see that style of tie in West coast steelhead flies. I tie Atlantic salmon flies and find just the opposite. I slim profile seems to work far better. Then again it is a fish and there isn't much of a brain there. They are apt to do things that don't make sense to us. Though many Canadians will tell you that thin black flies imitate elvers which are returning to the salmon rivers.

Great medium-sized steelhead wets Jay! As an old steelheader (over 70) I've been thinking about flies that have worked for me over a lifetime. Despite my interest in having intruders and large sized flies being a remedy for consistent success, looking back 50 years finds size 4 and 6 traditional west coast patterns being far more productive, almost 25 to 1. Fall favorites, polar shrimp, skunks, etc...I think your great take on modern steelhead wets will take over my fascination with intruders😂.

@@JayPeckGuidesLostRiversFishing Thanks for the info. This fly reminds me of my all time favorite "Old School" wet fly..... The Carey Special, size 6 to 10 - unweighted, which is my go to fly for smallmouth bass in small streams or shallow summer flows. This fly was taught to me by my father over 50 years ago. Perhaps you know of this fly and can share it with others who follow your tutorials. Take Care

Like the videos. I'm a steady viewer. I have moved to pulaski ( village) just above DSR. I watch vids and fished here on and off since about 1998. Anyway just saying hi. And as far as fly comments. Have u seen the fairly new both MFC and the FNF squirmy material. U can get it tied with out any worry about slicing the thread.
