Yeah as an American they clearly outplayed us 5v5 but they never gave themselves a chance to win. They took so many blatant penalties, it would be a crime not to call the ones they were called for. I am from Canada and yes we take pride in being the best in hockey. I will say this all nations have caught up to us. We don't dominate like we used to. That's a good thing. It’s really good that there is such parity in the sport globally now. Of course a loss is magnified when it is against the USA. It is a great rivalry. Last year the team Canada sent to the tournament was relatively inexperienced and had a bad result. I fully expected them to return this year and do well. These are skilled players among the best in the country. They did not gel as a team, they were either poorly coached or never accepted the coaching team for direction. In the end it felt less like a team and more like a bunch of guys out doing their own thing sort of shinny hockey style.

Their approach to player selection was flawed, and they ignored significant talent and hockey IQ over players they thought would be more “coachable.”But with such a short time to field a team, they need guys with high hockey IQs because those guys are more likely to gel faster out of the gate.

As a US fan, love to see the power play perform like it did, but we need to be a lot better 5 on 5. At even strength Canada was the far better team and luckily Augustine was fantastic tonight, but we can’t expect Canada to take the same dumb penalties that they did in either semis or gold medal game. Either way I’m happy with the win and much prefer our draw playing Switzerland instead of the Czechs in the quarterfinals. This was an embarrassment, and I'm sure Team Canada knows that. After the numerous penalties Team Canada received, I do not see this Team moving past the quarter finals. Consider themselves lucky to even reach the quarter finals. George, was amazing as usual but gave up 3 identical goals (top blocker). As for Cowan, he needs to stop taking stupid penalties and focus on trying to score. The Coach needs to talk to these guys, or consider it a repeat of last year.

This result is just a glimpse of Canada's hockey future. The CHL will become the poor sister, placeholder league for kids wanting to get an NCAA hockey scholarship. Elite American high school kids who don't get a good NCAA offer will will take some CHL spots, but the net hockey talent drain will be decidedly southwards --- to a prestigious education, serious money, national TV telecasts, and non-stop NHL scouting. The NCAA will simultaneously expand its circle of elite programs, and their resources will keep getting bigger and better....virtuous feedback circle The US will dominate hockey soon. It won't be the great game it was, just another money-grubbing business. But it will be theirs, to do with as they see fit.

All three US goals scored against a goaltender were shot from pretty much the same spot - middle of the ice, around the top of the circle, shooter uncontested. Obviously staying out of the box is the best way to prevent this, but it should also be something Canada cleans up.

Up to now there was no 'team Canada'. There was just a collection of excellent players, trying to impress themselves and Canadian fans, but there was NO TEAM Canada! The problem of 'team Canada' was not with the players, but with Canadian coaches. Canadians should hire (much) better coaches, able/willing to establish 'the Team'. Canada chose the wrong people. And also that last empty net goal was totally intentional. Of all the places he could've passed he went with a feeble flip into the slot. Canada is so bad at offense that TSN has to resort to talking about how great the "DEFENSE" is. Their defense is awful. Thats why they have to take tripping and holding penalties because they can't defend properly. On the PK they keep chasing puck....Its a PENALTY KILL. You don't chase the puck. That's you keep allowing passes through to the danger areas. Its just funny how TSN is trying so hard to make something out of this team Canada when there is nothing positive. You can talk all you want about not letting in a 5 on 5 goal. But when you spend almost a full period on the PK it doesn't really matter does it?

I am Canadian. the Czechs will beat Canada easily in the quarter Finals and that will be it for this year. The USA or the Czechs will probably win Gold. the selection committee screwed the Canadian team this year by gutting the roster before it started.

This poorly prepared team is the coach's doing. They were not drilled enough for the game of speed. Speed of puck movement requires players to touch the puck less... puck moves faster... you save energy... with less frustration... and better results. Players will only demonstrate what has and has not been trained. That sh*it's gotta be drilled before the tournament and during. Once again, Hockey Canada has failed to hire the right hockey minds with the right hockey know-how. Unless the preparation changes, it's gonna be another tournament where we are reduced to hope for bronze. Shame!!

Where to start for Canada. Too many soft rich kids. This is what happens when the junior game because as expensive as it is. Sad. But that has nothing to do with leaving some of the best talent off the team. Like seriously? No Misa? The list goes on. I’m a Swede/American and even I think that whoever made that decision should be fired effective immediately. Imagine how good this tournament would be if Canada actually rostered their best players and Russia was allowed to play. Now THAT would be some vintage WJC. To think that the US, Canada, Sweden, Finland, and Russia all would have a very legitimate shot at a gold would make for an amazing tournament, as it once was.

We simply don't like Russia because it is our arch enemy throughout history. But importantly, they have 30% of all doping cases in history. This is disgusting. To be honest, they really need to learn a geopolitical lesson because they are not only evil but also too cocky for their own good. Makarov/Larionov used to be quiet and courteous, but not anymore. USA is cocky (call it swagger) but quite harmless. Big difference. I agree we should be playing Russia BUT they should be given the worst conditions, camping in rain, and one meal per day.

The penalties were not the only problem, although they destroyed any chance of winning this particular game, but the team is also not built with the best prospects. Some very notable names like Iginla, Sennecke, Yakemchuk, Misa, and Greentree were all snubbed to Canada's detriment. They can't even muster more than a goal per game. You're not winning anything with that.
