But is there a sport tire in this size ( 14 inches ) ?...
@paulbaker65362 жыл бұрын
There are, a lot of Asian and European countries still run with some smaller wheels I think. There's some perellis I was looking at but I just put some standard tires on. They are still about $50 each so it's cheap to keep good rubber on them 🤣
@mdev88462 жыл бұрын
@@paulbaker6536 I live in Europe. There isn't a sport tire in this size ( perhaps, Dunlop SportBluResponse and Dunlop FastResponse are the best tires in 14 inches ) because the rest of them focus for the fuel economy. Besides, the 13" and 14 " tires are dissapearing here because they put on old cars... If you want to buy sport tires in Europe, at least they must be 17 inches ( Michelin Pilot Sport 5 or Bridgestone Potenza Sport tires for example ).
@paulbaker65362 жыл бұрын
Ahh gotcha, that's pretty similar to here (usa) there are a good amount of 15" and up options for sure. The 14s definitely aren't used very often any more.

The main reason your 225/50 is slower in acceleration is because you increased the rolling radius effectively giving you a taller final drive ratio. This could either help or hurt depending on what track you are running. I prefer the 225/45 like you mentioned due to the lower ratio and less rotational mass. I'm sure you probably know this already, but the further the weight is from the centerline of rotation, the more impact it makes. Lightweight lug nuts, almost no difference. Lighter tires, much bigger benefit. Braking efficiency is also slightly worse on the larger tires vs same 100TW lighter tire. Rotational mass is killer for low powered cars. Your center of gravity is also slightly higher as you mentioned. Granted, none of this makes any sizeable difference unless you are in a very competitive class chasing those .1% gains. Your new setup is hands down superior to the old though. If your old gearing matched the track better then you would see some improvements stepping down to the 225/45. If you really want to knock out some banger laps, throw on a set of Hoosier A7 but they are only good for a few hotlaps before they overheat. The R7 would last longer but are slower on raw hotlap pace. Don't expect either of them to last too long though. Both are rated at 040 treadwear haha. They are also $331 each :/ Currently we're restricted to a 205/50/15 Falken RT660 (Spec Tire Class) on an 8" wide rim. Have ran 275/35/15 Hoosiers with SCCA. We ran a 225/45/15 on a 9" wheel years ago and it felt really good.
@aw6142 жыл бұрын
The crazy thing about the 205/50/15 RT660 is how wide it runs, it basically is a 215/50/15 and barely looks like it has an stretch on it and is noticeably wider than the RE71r on the same 15x8 wheel...

Always wider tyre if you can get the fitment right. And by fitment I mean nice track fit. Function = form imo. Also it's pointless testing tyres by drag racing them. Semi slicks are made for track drive not launching. Stiff sidewalls are the opposite of what you want for drag racing

So don't exactly have a 90s civic but here's the wheel/tire setup on my cars: '85 MR2: 195/50R15 Hankook RS4's on Kosei K1 15x7 +30 offset (very miata like setup, did not want to roll fenders, could of went 15x8, might do that in a future set of wheels if I hit a wall with this setup. '02 Civic Si (EP3): Random brand 500tw tires, 205/55R15 on Enkei RP02s, I know alot of people rock 17s on EPs but this was originally on the AW11 and it fit well on the EP. Might stick with it and stick some decent allseasons as the EP is more of my daily then the track car my AW11 is. I think the tire size you choose for track purposes does come down to how much you push your car, I'm still fairly new to MR cars and am largely running on stock power and suspension, aside from a set of coilovers. 15x7 on 195/50R15 seemed to be a healthy size to get comfortable on while retaining acceleration, I will jump up to wider wheels/tires when I feel I need more grip on the corners. Great video, hoping to grab an EG-gen hatch or coupe myself one day as they're my all time favourite civic.

Soo I have been racing in h4 for a while while most in the of our region run 225 50 15 toyo RR I found running 225 45 15 allows my gearing to work better since I'm still on the stock final drive. To give you an idea on our omega section at big willow I had to use 2nd gear for th 50 and with the 45 I could use 3rd. If you are on the oem final the 45 gains is gearing is like going from a 4.7 final drive to a 4.9 final drive. Highly recommend going 225 45 15.

I actually have a set of Yokohama S-Drive 215/40R16 mounted to Drag DR31 wheels on my 1990 Civic Si. I got these as my first set brand new from discount tire. This is my daily car which I take to the occasional Auto-X, but for daily comfort I have decided to look for a 15" option. Funny enough, I have been looking for a set of 949 Racing 6UL wheels in a 15x7 size that I would like to match with a decent all season 205/50R15 tire. Totally understand the need for wider tired for the track as my 215 handled about everything I threw at them, but the added height to the tire, when match with a larger sidewall needed to be comfortable to daily, wasn't worth the reduced wheel travel on a lowered car. Cant wait to read others opinions on our beloved Hondas.

I run 14x5 +45 with 185/65 tyres on my B16A2 EK4, it might not seem that great from the numbers but in fact I found it's the perfect set up for roll racing, since these small motors usually don't make much power when stock traction is rarely an issue, it's really overkill running larger wheels and tyres on the car unless your car is focused on cornering. Highly recommend anyone looking to get the best performance out of their Civic's for straight line pulls to run the smallest wheels and tyres possible and you'll definitely see the difference, the engine has to work a whole lot less harder when it doesn't have oversize wheels to drag along haha 😄

225/45/15 > 225/50/15 for road racing and autocross and tire choice. The 225/50/15 size seems more common for drag racers...I see more tire choices for 225/45/15 in 200tw. Some like the A052, RT660, RE71rs are probably faster than the R888 for those one lap sprints and come in that size... One of the common themes I remember reading on old Honda tech posts that the 23in tire was the magical tire diameter you want for gearing and grip which the 225/45 and 205/50 would have over the 225/50...

The title although correct is still somewhat misleading. Tire compounds are so different that it doesn't matter what tire width you have. A stickier compound vs a street tire would always be grippy on track, that's a no brainer. what I want to know is would a difference in rim size matter at all... Everything should be the same, except rim size. For example 205/50 R15 vs 205/50 R17 on the same brand and model tires. Which would be faster in a track.

Friend, you can't measure acceleration times like that with different wheel/tire sizes. Since the speedometer reading is related to the rotational speed of the wheels, your actual speed will never be the same at any given speedometer reading, when you compare wheel/tire setups with different circumference. What I mean is; when the speedometer needle is at 60mph, for example, your actual speed when using the wheel/tire setup with the larger circumference will be greater than your actual speed when using the wheel/tire setup with the smaller circumference.

That's what happens when you buy wheels in the wrong offset lol.

My older Civics are running a x7 195/50/15 and a x7 205/50/16 (wanted a 45 profile) on some old school wheels on an 84-87 Civic. Helps the car grip up but the purist in me wants 13s but it's hard to keep it functional.

Why do you want a 45 profile ?.

In Europe the best tire in 13 inches is Dunlop Street Response 2.

@@mdev8846 In australia I do have some options but sizing is a limiting factor. I do prefer smaller wheels but I need stopping power too.

205/45/16 for street 235/40/17 for track Hey mate I don’t think your 0-60 time where accurate as the 205/50/15 has a height of 23.1 inch and the 225/50/15 have a height of 23.9. Would be cool to see the same runs on a gps or even a quarter mile run to see what the difference is for 0-60
@RefineMovement2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, totally agree with a gps it would be accurate. It was still fun to do hah

Just have to launch in higher rpm with 225's. Thats why the 205's had a better 0-60. You bogged with 225 and spun a little with 205. 225 are way better. Nothing wrong with 205's

185 55 r15 on hypergrams and on Drag DR21... darn near rubber band tires😆 but I love them❤️ I have them on S drive( my car had been sitting for 6+years and I know I need to swap the tires out) and I loved the grip those little tires had. Made me smile every time I parked it😁

The 0-60 really isn’t super accurate, as there is a circumference size difference of 3.5%. It’s not going to make a giant difference but there are 29 less revolutions per mile on a 225, aka will read a lower speed on the speedo then the vehicle is traveling.

If you dropped the aspect ratio on the 225 to 45 or 40, I would have said 'that titre'...however, in this case, the 205/50 is the (most) right size out of these 2 and it just looks 'right'. The mesh wheel it is mounted on looks the part too. Also, the 205/50 is lighter than the 225/50. My vote is for the 205/50/15 tire. ✅__.:R🏁

Both of those are to much tire for stock/ bolt on set up the 205/50/15 is better choice because it’s not as tall. A 195/50/15 would do u better
