METRIC, the legendary 19 point, 205" world-class whitetail deer harvested in Licking County, Ohio. METRIC's story is one of determination, skill, frustration, and the chase that I will remember forever. In this video, I dive deep into the heart-pounding adventure that led up to the breathtaking moment when my hunt of a lifetime came to an end.

My grandfather that I never met quit hunting after he killed a 15 point buck in the Adirondack mountains. He had basically the same thing happen and said he couldn't ever take a deers life after the eye contact they made as he was fading. It's really a overlooked aspect of most hunters, their compassion and love for the deer is almost like an oxy moron to people that don't hunt. Awesome video man congrats.

I keep getting these comments of people that have had the same experience, i think it happens more than we talk about. i can see how it could make you never take another animals life again. That did cross my mind the first few nights as I was driving around trying to get myself together. Thank you for the comment

This is an incredible story. It is so obvious the love you have for these whitetail. You told the story in such a riveting way that I was sad when it ended. You are making sure the story of Metric lives on forever, and that is a special thing that nobody can take away. Thank you for sharing this story! It gave me goosebumps.

This story is something special! As a big time deer hunter I can relate to this story as much as anything in the world. That last 3 minutes of the video I had goosebumps and about in tears. You hit the nail on the head about chasing white tails the right way! It’s a challenging thing. It feels sometimes like you form a bond with the wilderness, and embrace it so much more than anyone else does! Hunting to me is the chase, and you explained it perfectly! Congratulations on a magnificent buck and a wonderful story! Your the man!

I had close to the same experience with my first big whitetail...walked up and looked him in the eyes right before he died and i still remember him blinking and straight up cried for a few minutes...took me a long time to recover to the point of taking a deer's life again

12/1/21....rifle opener in KS. I was born & raised in KS but had at that point lived in MN for 21 years. Applied for KS tags to hopefully get a chance to have at least 1 hunt with my dad. 4 minutes into legal shoot opener morning....I shoot a 179" 16 pt non-typical. But upon walking up on him 45-60 mins later we realized he wasnt dead. My dad shot him again from just a couple feet away....a couple mins later my hubby had to shoot him yet again to which he finally expired. My first ever hunt with my elderly dad EVER, AND my first buck EVER! And it was all & still is overshadowed with his last moments being shot 2 more times at point blank range. I commend your respect for Metric and his final moments, as I still to this day weigh upon my bucks final moments and it breaks my heart ❤

As a veterinarian that also hunts I can certainly relate to the compassion and the "mixed feelings " you describe. Certainly why true hunters strive to make as quick and clean and ethical of a harvest as possible. I know if have passed shots many would have taken and I've made mistakes (particularly in my youth) that haunt me that I never want to repeat. It is why I'm so cautious as a bow hunter. Nothing like getting close and "one" like archery but it is not forgiving.

First I wanted to say Thank you to you for sharing a story that if someother person didn't know what kind of person you are, they might shake there head in disbelief, that said ,for myself from being in many different traumatic situations in life, the biggest gift a person is blessed with , is the understanding of others and how they might feel in or after a certain situation or event, and that feeling is called Empathy ! It's taken me a long time to fully understand what that word meant and how important it is to have ,its a big part of life to be blessed enough to have that understanding, on this never ending roller coaster we call life,I have to say , what i heard and watched from your film is that your heart is as big as anyone's, and I've never met you before ,,you were definitely blessed with a remarkable understanding of what a life means and that we have zero control on what outcome is ahead of us! Anyway, sorry if that was to deep, some times I need to say what I've experienced, and that was a great experience for myself,Congratulations on a Majestic Whitetail, they are in my mind the greatest animal that I've encountered so far on this planet! Hang on to what you posses, not many out there ,that do, Stay safe, God bless,

Awesome video and awesome story! It can definitely be bitter sweet when it’s all over. I feel like having those experiences, even though sometimes difficult, are important to sober us, bring us back to reality, keep us from losing touch of reality, and keep us from becoming to desensitized to it. I feel like if we get too desensitized to that stuff we, in a way, lose appreciation for it.

Awesome story. I enjoyed watching it unfold. Chapter by chapter. Lee Ellis and the Seek 1 guys are really solid dudes and extremely dedicated to their craft like you are. I am happy for you to be able to make it happen in such heart pounding fashion. 🏹🦌 Last year I made a bad shot with a rifle on a small 5 point and had to finish him off. To see life in his eyes as I loaded another round in the chamber and him not able to move tore me up. Just thinking about it now brings back the feeling of sadness that I didn’t do my part better. I told him, “sorry buddy” a couple times before I pulled the trigger. I actually cried when I told my wife the story. That will stick with me for a long time. Thanks for sharing your experience and hunting story on this beautiful buck 🏹🦌 My family and I recently moved to Ohio and I am looking forward to hunting here next year.

I've got a buck I've watched grow for the past 4 seasons, this year makes the 5th, and I've told my friend several times that if I knew for sure he wouldn't get poached, or shot with a rifle from a road, I'd never shoot him. Reason being is the experience you had with your recovery. I don't want to walk up on a deer I feel like I know and have "raised" for years and see him not alive anymore. It's tough when you genuinely care about the animal. I passed him 2 seasons ago at 32 yards. Drew back on him and everything and just wouldn't pull the trigger. Found his sheds from that year and scored him out to 154. Would have by far been my biggest buck (live in Southern wv where rifle season is in for 2 weeks so most bucks don't get to age). I'm out to try and get him this year, but I dread the recovery if I do.

It’s tough to pass good deer, you did the right thing and bet on the deer to live and sneak past other hunters and poachers. It will be very hard to walk up to him when you harvest him, especially with the amount of work you have put in and the connection you have with the deer. Good luck

Always wish to give them their moment of peace as they expire but with the history of you scaring the daylights out of that deer then to follow it up with seeing you when it did pass is almost symbolic in its own way... Awesome story! This will be my first year deer hunting and I decided to do try with a bow! Putting in the work now so I can make a clean shot when the time comes. Really cool to see your story and what it took to get there!

Nice job Tom. Love the detail about the stand and access. Do you do anything related to scent control or is it all about access?

Wow what a story and man the minutes and hours you put in on this deer was insane. But I totally understand and from a guy from Ohio I know how big Ohio bucks are I’m 43 years old and been a hunter for my whole life and now my 17 year old is the same way and we are actually trying still 11/16/23 are trying to get him this monster of a ten point. But great job and happy hunting
