In this episode of HUNTR Podcast, we bring on CJ Alexander of Ohio to share his journey harvesting one of the biggest bucks, maybe ever? CJ has been watching the show for some time and actually reached out us, wanting to share his great accomplishment with you guys. This deer, green scored by Mike Rex, comes to 235 7/8 gross and 206 7/8 net typical. This means that CJ's buck is potentially the biggest to ever be harvested in the state of Ohio and is in the running for a top 5 spot in the world. This world class buck is nothing short of amazing, but what makes it even more special is the story behind it. What started as an all day sit on a new property, ended with what every whitetail hunter dreams of. We talk about it all the time, the things that have to go right for a deer to reach this caliber, is near impossible. Enjoy this episode as CJ shares his amazing story with us! Congrats, man!!

Waiting for the official from Ohio DNR but all indications are the CJ confessed to poaching. We’ve been too quick to judge people in the past so this was a great chance to give someone the benefit of the doubt in his situation. But as the old saying goes “if it sounds too good to be true, then it is too good to be true!” 🤦‍♂️

You all should keep at this one. Try and talk to some people from where the deer actually lived, those with pics, sheds, etc. The Buck deserved better, but might as well share whatever facts that come out through your platform, since many people were exposed to that monarch through your very kind interview you had with him. Merry Christmas

@@mittiejackson3427First of all… Nothing to be jealous of having dumb luck if his story was true. It’s an awesome buck, but nothing about the hunt to be jealous of even if what he said was true. It wouldn’t really be any accomplishment to just have complete dumb luck. Second of all… A lot of us could simply see through his bs and see the holes in the story that didn’t add up…

I'm sorry but am I the only one who thinks this is total bullshit. Sure I'm jealous but this deer was poached. 100%. You shoot the deer illegally (at night /crossbow, probably how you broke the 1st one, aka limb smacked a door frame or pillar) so you borrow one to finish the job or make it look good. I better borrow a tree stand too so it sounds good. Say I left my phone at home because that's where it really was with you doing nothing. Once you procure some bros to help you recover him you are enlightened that this is a world class deer after you take some pics (at night? you supposedly recovered this deer at 10:30am, there should have been 500 pictures before dark). Who would wait that long to go recover a deer of this magnitude? I would have been there at daylight, probably would have never left.Your story is full of holes that make no sense. You point out things that nobody would even think to say unless they were trying to hide something. Admitted you waisted time from when ODR called and when you called back. I've been hunting for 40 years and I know a deer story when I hear one, this was not a deer story. This was a coverup.
@SwampDonkey07
@SwampDonkey07 4 ай бұрын
And you sir were correct! Lmao turns out he poached the buck. A guy had it on camera 15 miles away and hours before cj allegedly shot this buck. So many holes in his story I knew it was fishy. He left his phone at home when he went out to shoot it at night with his crossbow😂
@chrisvaught9531
@chrisvaught9531 4 ай бұрын
@@SwampDonkey07 There were many red flags for me in his story but the two major ones were when he talked about his shot angle and the holes in the deer lined up, insinuating it wasn't shot from ground level. Who even thinks to say that unless you're hiding something. The second was he said he had a stand in another location. Why would he go to all of this trouble to hunt somewhere he had never hunted. Just borrow the crossbow and go get in your stand that's already hung. You put it there for a reason. He must have thought that was good spot right? That was all a lie too. He had to borrow one and run up and down a tree that morning and ruff up the bark to make his story complete.

When I watched this I knew he was lying. Ain’t no way you find a deer at 10:30am that scores 230 inches and you don’t take a single photo until dark. I shot my PB last year that was a 180” deer and I literally took a photo of him laying the first time I saw him from 25 yards away. Then took 15 more before I got to the damn truck. And I was by my self. If there was a buddy, no doubt we would film the recovery and at least take 40 photos. When I heard him say they didn’t take any until dark I knew he was lying. Then when you look at his photos of him with the deer, he’s wearing all black…who does that when you aren’t hunting in a blind?

Congrats CJ! My 24 year old son decided he wanted to hunt this year after 8 years. Saturday evening we hunted about 200 yards apart and he did not see a deer. Sunday morning we hunted together on the ground and tucked into a fallen maple tree. At 9am he shot a 100" 8 point and it was a trophy to him. It was simply a magical day for both of us. To CJ's point, hunting together after 8 years was one of the best days of our lives.

No trail cams, no scouting, no practice, just waltzes out with a borrowed crossbow and kills a giant. Others dedicate every dollar minute and being into chasing these things like you guys do. I’d rather see a drury, rising, or someone who lives for it get the next world record. Not some random guy who sits a couple times a year.

I mean it was already taken from him but regardless of poaching or if it happened the way he describes I feel the same way. Nothing to do with jealousy I never mentioned myself wanting a deer of that caliber. Just saying I’d rather see a more dedicated hunter get the big one. I think it’s a shame every time a giant like this gets taken it ends up with some kind of controversy so I hope it truly isn’t the poaching people are thinking it is

Honestly, this is my favorite podcast, but I never thought I would watch one 3 hours long. I skipped over this one several times due to the length. Once I turned it on, though, I couldn't cut it off. The thing to me that makes this so cool is that it's so wholesome, and he's just a good Ole boy. I spent many years in the industry, mostly filming shows, and have seen all sides of it. I stopped filming about 7 or 8 years ago, and it has changed tremendously since then. It's cool to see a normal guy, no cell cams, a borrowed stand and weapon, go out, and shoot an absolute freaking giant. It's awesome because you just never know what's gonna come walking by. That's the American dream from a hunters standpoint. Good for him! I run cell cams and don't get to hunt near as much as I used to. I watch and dream about hunting more than I actually go anymore. It's like getting back to your roots and just getting out there, but in a whirlwind dream come true scenario. What a story! Enjoy the ride! I'll also add this. I had my biggest buck ( a 150" 8 pointer from IL) stolen from my taxidermist years ago, and it has left me with a sucky feeling ever since. I dream of getting that buck back one day. If i was in his shoes, money couldn't buy that deer. That's irreplaceable.

@@progradepainting3755 I live in Ohio. I was suspicious of the story’s authenticity from the beginning, but didn’t say anything until now. People have come out with pictures and stories of this buck 15 miles away from where it was supposedly shot. There were also video posted at night where the deer was hanging and limp as all get like it was super fresh yet his story was that it wasn’t recovered until the next day… He sold the rack to a guy for $30,000 and it has now been confiscated and, from what I am told, CJ recently confessed to ODNR while he has been under investigation. Keep in mind we are talking about a government organization… They take their time doing investigations… I’m sure it will be out before too long though. 🤷🏼‍♂️It’s really unfortunate a giant like this was poached.

Left his phone home both days? Wasnt seeing many deer & was gonna call his dad to chew his ass saying "i told u theres no deer out there" yada yada.....its unfortunate if all the allegations come out as being true because all deer deserve to be hunted ethically & legally especially a mature buck like that....the fact he was even off on the size of his sisters property is troubling in itself....said its 30 & im hearing its really only 7-8 acres at best@pjmclaughlin4078

Seems you were going threw tuff issues with being able to hunt anywhere, losing hunting ground ect, won't go into depth but I think you know what I mean, that deer was sent to you to make you realize great things happen when people stay true at heart and not just hunt for the head. He was a payment for hanging in there and helping others when they need help. Great job super huge deer, you will never replace him at any cost nor will you probably ever see one that compares. And just for the record I could care less what you killed him with, you need luck, you need to be determined, I don't know what the big deal is with using crossbows, when you get to this deers level they are extremely smart and hard to get them. If you can make money by talks or showing him I say go for it, however I would never honestly sell that deer the level of the natural high you got from getting him is priceless
