I've worked on several old "boat-anchors" re-capping and some alignments, however I'm still learning and enjoy watching your videos to see what steps you take in your troubleshooting and how you solve the problems by finding them rather than just replacing the boards and calling it a day. Thank you for letting us watch your projects and your explaining in detail what your doing and what your looking for. Well done! 73 from Toronto, Canada.

Thanks again Buddy for another informative video! I really enjoy repairing the "old stuff". One thing though is that when you have the S-meter pointing to the 20, it is not S 20, it is S 9 + 20 db over 9. Picky, picky, picky.... Keep up the good work Buddy and 73, Ski

I had the same problem with my EE several years ago and real life was in the way at the time so instead of fixing it myself I ended up paying to have the entire radio re-capped before the tech realized that it was the audio chip that was bad. I know kids with better soldering skills than what he had and I ended up going over a lot of his work and removing the old solder he just went over when installing the new caps. Might as well have just done it myself. I have never had anyone work on my equipment since.

Hey buddy, great video as always. Your videos made me take the leap to try fixing my first major piece of equipment (done lots of minor things like cb radios and such). I got my hands on a Sencore SC61 for a song off of craigslist and I fixed it up and put it back into service. The channel B felt like it had chewing gum in it and it desperately needed a calibration, so I went through and cleaned every switch and contact until I got channel b back. Then I calibrated it according to the service manual I found online. Now I own my very first oscilloscope! YAYA!

I especially enjoy the videos you do on the classic 101 and 520 era radios but particularly the level of detail you include - which is essential for many learning their way. You also show the fault detection process which is so interesting. I now feel I must support your channel through patreon as I get a lot from your videos. I'm actively looking for a 101B or E but they are rarely available in VK for reasonable prices. 73 Vk5LTD

Nice repair, Buddy! You and Mr. Carlson have inspired me to try my hand at a small restoration of a Swan 500C and matching power supply. Wish me luck! BTW, and no fault of your own, I wonder if the receive audio quality you repaired is just the way this rig sounds? Frankly, it sucks. It's tinny and clipped (gritty). It's orders of magnitude better than when it came in, but again, if that's the normal audio, I can't understand anyone's allegiance to the receiver in this rig. :-)

I CANT BELIEVE YOU HAVE THE TIME TO ANSWER MOST OF THE COMMENTS. I WILL NOT EXPLAIN TOO MUCH OF MY EXPERIENCE IN ELECTRONICS OR HISTORY IN IT JUST YO TELL YOU ITS BEEN FOR A LONG TIME. SEMI RETIRED. I JUST WONDERED IF ITS WORTH REPAIRING THESE ITEMS ANYMORE. IS IT SENTIMENTAL REASONS. EVERYTHING NOWADAYS IS SURFACE MOUNT TECHNOLOGY . I SEE YOU HAVE MOST OF THE ELECTRONIC TEST EQUIPMENT TO USE. NOT EVERYONE HAS THE POCKET BOOK TOO BUY OR REPAIR THEM FOR USE. SOMETIMES ITS LESS EXPENSIVE AND CONVENIENT WITH LESS TIME INVOLVED JUST TO REPLACE THE AUDIO CHIP IF YOU KNOW ITS A COMMON PROBLEM. I HAVE WORKED WITH RADAR EQUIPMENT IN THE MILITARY AND NOT IN THE FIELD OF TRANSMITTERS AND RECEIVERS. REMEMBER ITS EASIER AND FASTER TO USE OTHER EQUIPMENT TO TEST CAPACITORS EVEN THOUGH I APPRECIATE USING MORE UP TO DATE EQUIPMENT. CONGRATS ON REPAIRING THIS UNIT. ITS ALWAYS REWARDING AND SATISFYING TO REPAIR OLD EQUIPMENT LIKE OLD AM ANTIQUE RADIOS. BEST WISHES AND GOD BLESS.
