I really miss those great NBA games in that era, basketball was fun and exciting to watch, lots of offence and lots of defence, check the amount of blocks and steals this game had. Imagine this was a regular season game and the intensity that it was played with was great, NBA playoff games now don't even have that much intensity.

@@777DonMakaveli777 What I meant is Kemp had better handles and could go one on one and create his own shot. Griffin relies more on good guard play around him. Kemp had the potential of a Michael Jordan but there was something wrong with his mind. Unbelievable handles, power and athleticism for a 6'10. He's got arguably THE two best post players in history working with him there (Olajuwon and McHale), so he's got the best chance he'll ever have to take it to a new level offensively.

GP plays pretty much like an undersized 2 with really good handles. Sure he had low assists for a point guard but he didn't turn the ball over as much as some of the guys playing the position now. Plus that defense of his is a great asset and how he can practically lock down the opposing team's point guard. Yeah kemp played the 5 at times in certain matchups.

Charles Barkley was one of the few big forwards who was capable of running the open floor prior to Kemp. Derrick Coleman was the same except he was also highly talented and had the size to boot at 240-250lbs. Only thing that stopped him was his motivation. Thing about Kemp is his absurd vertical and grace and fluidity for a guy his size. Imagine vince carter but 6 inches taller, longer arms and impeccable timing.

People don't realize he had a jump-shot simply because he was on a team with Payton, Gill/Hawkins, Schremph and Perkins. With those shooters on your team George Karl didn't exactly need Kemp to "shoot" the ball very much. He crashed the boards, played defense and scored in the paint.

Kemp would make any decent point guard have steve nash's assist numbers with his explosive leaping ability to finish to the hole. He actually was renowned for his work ethic and working on his game when he came into the league (just watch clips here on youtube from former teammates if you don't believe me). Griffin has nothin on Kemp! Damn you idiots thinking that Blake has even a chance! Blake only scores more points without having a big gap between them 23 ppg vs 20 ppg almost nothin! Now Kemp was a wayyyyy better defender than Griffin(more steals more blocks and rebounds and could lockdown).Kemp was a better free throw shooter (78%). Kemp was a wayyyy better shooter he had a deadly shot. With griffin you have to pray if hes behind the ft line!Shawn Kemp was actually able to hit 3s without luck.Shawn kemp wasnt the guy that was using only his athletisism but was an amazing post player.Shawn kemp had better handles (less TO).

Griffin also scored more simply because he was the number 1 option. Payton, Kemp, Schremph averaged almost 20 ppg together. Stacking on that Perkins and Gill at this time is even more scoring. My guess Griffin would be under 20 ppg with this team easily.

When the Sonics traded him to Clevelend he became disillusioned and did lose the motivation he had in Seattle, but he still posted a career high in scoring and averaged over 20 pts a game in 2 out of the 3 years, even though his battles with fitness had caused him to lose his explosiveness. Which means he had workd to develop a game that was not only about explosive dunks. So I think you are a bit off in your ascertation that he didn't work at his game

Not that I'm a hater. I like B. Griffin and all but Kemp already has a decent mid-range jumpshot and a good ball handling in his first 2 years in the NBA. Plus he was quick. This just shows how unpredictable Kemp was, he could come out and attack you on offense like this game or be the non-selfish person he is and only take 5 shots for the game. Sonics only had Benjamin as a true centre while Shawn was there, when he left they had Cage, Perkins & Johnson, not true centres so Kemp played the 5 alot. Sonics were the most entertaining to watch in the 90s, the first reason i watch nba, to be entertained. Kemp gave u that in spades.

This really was the heyday of the NBA, in which they'd passed baseball in popularity and were neck to neck with football as America's Favorite Sport. We can thank that cretin David Stern for inheriting Jordan, Bird and Magic then turning the league into a dog and pony show with an all-consuming profit motive of manufactured outcomes, brands, personas and images. The way he chose to "revive" the game after Jordan's retirement and the lockout by softening it up killed the integrity. Today's players are definitely more athletic but much softer and less technically skilled; they'd get eaten alive if sent back in time.
