Dr. Matt helped change by life. A great part of it is His willingness to be an example. People get very defensive, i was, because I was in so much bondage to bad health and food. I didn't understand my life could be better than it ever was in my entire memory. Fasting now is actually something I can do and pray and be thankful because Im not shaking, angry or in tones of pain. So thankful to God that Matt told Me the truth. Even if it wasn't my favorite.

Stellar interview, Elisha. Too many Christians are gnostic when it comes to their health but this is changing for the better. Thanks for contributing to this foundational aspect of family thriving.

Great podcast. I love the conversations about being present in the family, holistic health, home schooling, and home birth. I’d love to see more content like this!

I’m a young mom to 4 little ones and was just diagnosed with two major autoimmune diseases (RA & Hashimotos) this week. I could really use prayers. I’m so confused about what to eat. I tried paleo/keto, and it crashed my hormones and adrenals. I’ve basically been eating sprouted fermented farm organic foods and pastured meats collagen gelatin etc and no refined sugars. As healthy as I know in every way. I need God’s wisdom how to eat as some people say go low inflammatory vegan (no fun!) but some people say eat to heal your mitochondria which is more of no grains, pastured meats & organs and tons of veggies. If anyone has some encouragement or just wants to pray for me wisdom, please, I appreciate the prayers. 😢❤

My autoimmune problems went into remission with a more carnivore-style, high fat low carb diet. The Weston Price guidelines are enough to keep me in remission, but for me I have to still avoid grains and have a decent amount of seafood and ruminant meat. Plenty of animal fats as well. Praying for your healing ❤

Have you looked into AIP (Autoimmune Protocol or Autoimmune Paleo)? It doesn’t leave out any food groups, which is important to me. Low carb is so damaging on a woman’s thyroid & hormones! I’ve been on it for 10 months & my Hashimotos is in remission & I’ve been able to reintroduce several foods. There are lots of Facebook groups that helped me a lot as well. Prayers for you!♥️

@@mirandabrubaker5984 Thank you! Yes, I am actually eat AIP style as well! Isn't that leaving out food groups though--because it leaves out dairy, all nuts & seeds, and all grains, etc. I'm not sure if it's helping me. I have all the symptoms of RA. Appreciate your prayers!!

Food is social. And scripture says to eat what's put in front of you: "When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is offered to you." It hurts and offends your host to turn down what they offer. Unless you have a serious allergy like anaphylaxis with peanuts, you should partake gratefully. There is a new eating disorder called orthorexia which is a fear of less than perfect food. It reminds me of cs lewis Screwtape Letters where the persnickety woman has a form of gluttony in which her tea and toast must be just so. I think we should eat well (however we define that) most of the time but not be paranoid or snobbish in social settings, putting ourselves first.

The question of whether Christians should focus on/nurture their physical and mental health actually relates to a *lot* of other doctrines (tied together by whether or not one holds a Platonic worldview--positing [incorrectly] that since the soul is permanent then the body and the whole of this present creation aren't worth thinking about). A thought-provoking read on this broader subject is N. T. Wright's Surprised by Hope.

Thank you for the book recommendation! Another good book that talks about Christians disregarding matter/the physical world as less than important is Total Truth by Nancy Pearcy.

This was an interesting interview. I disagree that we should keep all “unhealthy” food out of our houses. Current research shows that children who are restricted from certain foods will be more likely to gravitate towards and eat larger amounts of them when they get the chance. So actually having them in their diet of a semi-regular basis is the best way to prevent addiction. The book “How to Raise an Intuitive Eater” written by two registered dieticians cites and discusses the research on this. In my anecdotal experience, my husband was raised with very limited access to sweets and now will absolutely binge on them when he gets the chance. I was raised with a healthy diet but had regular access to treats and I am very able to just eat one cookie and be satisfied.

I am sure this must have many different factors involved. I was raised with plenty of unhealthy foods and now struggle with bingeing. My husband was highly restricted from them and has no problem with having one or no cookies and not overdoing it. Most of my siblings are of the bingeing type as well, and my husbands siblings are all the moderation type. I think probably how nourished you are makes a difference. My husbands family was much better nourished than mine.

I want that to be true for Me. I was allowed to eat whatever when I was a kid. I have not passed one experiment of leaving highly craveable food in my house where I don't at some point end up over eating it. My husband eats a bite and forgets it. My kids seem to be that way too. I wish I was....so far even after almost 5 years of changing my diet I haven't arrived and intuitive eating.

I messed up my good eating and health which I needed for my job because all the women at Bible study got upset if I wasn’t interested in eating the sweets they made and brought. I didn’t want to offend but it was weird. I guess if I kept looking at my body as His I could have stood up.

I normally take my own home baked goodies to these sort of things and show the ladies keto foods are delish too(which is how I eat) and that shows them I’m not missing out in my stance and maybe sparks a healthy motivation in them and a recipe swap etc! Seeking to inspire others always helps us ok our journey 😊

I didn't listen yet but I hemorrhaged at home with my home birth immediately after, had to be transferred to a hospital and they got it under control. There is a level of 'fear' that should lead us to make careful decisions - such as when we wear a parachute when jumping out of an airplane. This may include being close enough to a hospital when giving birth with trained midwives. And if something did happen- have a plan and strategy. If hemorrhaging - don't wait until all other options are exhausted and you've already lost 2L of blood on the verge of shock. The hospital I went to was a stone throws away (literally the next property next to our apartment!) But it took them 10-15 to get to us, and 10-15 minutes to get me from our apartment to the emergency room- because they couldn't find the entrance (it was dark nighttime) because there was construction by the labor and delivery ward entrance.

God created women with the ability to bear children. We are biologically programmed that way. We are not programmed to jump out of airplanes. That parallel does not at all apply. Very rarely is medical intervention necessary in a birth. Hospitals want to make money just like any other company. I'm sorry that you went through a scary birth. That is terrible and I agree, we should take precautions, but fear mongering does not help anyone. As an aside, your name is spelled the same way my friend named her new baby! I love the Z. So fun!

You'll love his perspective when you listen to this. He is suggesting that people could consider that there are options that aren't mainstream, like homebirth for example, like homeschooling, like getting your milk directly from a farmer. Most people have never even considered that you can do things differently. Also, that sounds like a super crazy experience. Very thankful you were so close to the hospital!!

Great show! I wanted to ask a question about the guitar lessons you offer. My son pointed out that you have a classical guitar in the demo. We have an acoustic and I wanted to make sure and confirm that he’ll still be able to use the acoustic to learn the lessons. I feel silly asking but just a few months ago I was learning the difference between the guitar and the bass even .. So you can see I have lots to learn lol
