I agree with other comments, this was fantastic. Reading reviews and learning from them what readers like/dislike is such a great tip, but also disregarding some reviews. I find the title of this talk misleading though, there isn't anything about the mindset in this talk and that's why I clicked, other than that great talk.

Maybe mindset created a different expectation for you, but for me, it was fulfilled through how she talked about marrying what you want to write with what readers are hungry for.

Respectfully I thought her presentation was 100% Mind set. The mind set lessons were numerous. 1. It was a mindset of perseverance and never letting a set back stop you from trying again and again till you get what you want. 2. It was a mind set of you get what you want or you get an education = try again. I think we heard different things . What did I hear? First mindset lesson addressed, quitting is not an option . 17 years old she writes her first novel , no one cares. = try again Next decade she writes novel after novel , no one cares and she’s ignored by publishers . = try again. Early 30’a she finds self publishing, and makes a whopping total of $5000. = try again. How many people at 17, or in her 20’s a or the year she made 5000 would have just quit. In my experience with people most. Last try over half a million dollars revenue. And honestly I wasn’t surprised she made half a million dollars , I was surprised how many times she got back up and took on the world again and again after what had to be an Army of naysayers in a 15 year period. Second mind set lesson, you get what you want or get an education. She gave us PART of her cookbook recipe for her readers of her novels that are successful: flawed characters, multiple genres combined , believable disasters ( no zombies etc.) high levels of action , and NEVER kill dogs along with making your reader feel what the characters are feeling. She did not start out with this formula and she tells you so through her explanation of her writing journey. Those lessons were learned through 15 years of trial and error and often failure but to take the failures as lessons not defeats. If she lacked in this presentation its was perhaps pointing out her success was from these mind sets. It honestly reminded me of the mindsets I’ve witnessed training , and working with Army Special Forces, Navy Seals , and SAS Commandos. They share her mindset in everyway. Maybe I'm way off. I've never met kyla Stone nor spoken with her , but it seemed to me this was all about mindset.
