Rest Stop sounds so great. I'm also really looking forward to She's Always Hungry! The UK cover features photography by one of my favorite contemporary artists, Juno Calypso. Check out her work to see more photos from the vintage tub series titled The Honeymoon. One book I'm really looking forward to, which is not mentioned in the video, is American Rapture by C. J. Leede. I loved Maeve Fly and the cover art looks equally awesome.

King Lear is by Shakespeare, but you don't need to know anything about it to read Private Rites, which was excellent. I order a lot of books from Blackwells online, especially when I prefer the UK cover. Shipping is free and it's often cheaper than US sites and stores.

Self made monster absolutely sold me when you said “body parts that won’t stay attached” 😂 Also, I don’t think I have read any medical horror and now I’m very intrigued in this sub genre! That's the line that sealed the deal for me too 😂😂 And right!? Literally the most perfect cover ever. I haven't gotten to penance yet. I'm curious if I'll have the same feeling since I really enjoyed boy parts too.

I second the Lakewood by Megan Giddings recommendation and theres also Comemadre by Roque Larraquy (at least the first section) for the medical horror. On my own tbr I have Honeycomb by S.B. Caves which is a medical experiment reality tv show? I have Violent Faculties by Charlene Elsby as well but it sounds more like philosophy experiments so not too sure about that one. I hadn't heard of And He Shall Appear but it sounds so good to me definitely adding it to my tbr.

I just read a witchy book set in Appalachia .. generations of a family in a small town.. magic and drama and secrets.. it's called Strange Folk by Alli Dyer. I love the cover.. I wish it had more atmosphere but if you like character-driven stories, this is definitely that. Some dark things are happening.. the synopsis does not really get into all that so there is definitely more going on than I expected. Maybe check it out from your library like I did. 😊 I'm obsessed/fascinated by anything Appalachia. I even watched a bunch of videos.. I need to read more books with that setting. I have The Bog Wife on my Library TBR.. they bought it because of my purchase request 😄

My copies of The Bog Wife and Coup de Grace turned up early the other week, so I have already read the latter, and I loved it! But I seem to have a minority opinion on that one, so fingers crossed you love it as much as you're hoping. I'm really looking forward to getting to The Bog Wife, then Model Home and Self-Made Monsters, and I hope She's Always Hungry is as good as its cover and synopsis suggests! Speaking as a former theater kid King Lear is one of the prominent works of William Shakespeare about a king and his children I weep for your generation My Sweet Summer child Didn't they teach you any Shakespeare in your English language arts class?
@WickedScorpio21 күн бұрын
Not that one. And I'm not interested in seeking out those works at this time in my life. & it has nothing to do with generations but rather the inconsistency and inequality of the educational system in the US. Not every school/educator can or wants to teach every William Shakespeare work to exist.
@jamieserrano82721 күн бұрын
Fair enough Educational system here in the US is willfully inadequate even when I was in school I had to seek out books that I liked that were classics and also Shakespeare is one of his tragedies, and I prefer his romcom much more
