I stocked up on school supplies 7 years ago at Target. Went right after school started and everything was on clearance. Bought pretty much everything my kids would need for grade k-8. Kept everything in a large bin under our desk with a stack of spiral notebooks next to it. I spent $80 in 2015. Kids are 7th and 5th grade now. The bin is just about empty now. There will be enough for my youngest next year too, but I was happy I planned right cause they won't be needing cranyons and that type of stuff in junior high. We of course have the one off items and fill in items that end up on the list, but overall I have sent 2 kids to school for 6 years on $80.

Those little 3pack containers are the perfect size for card games. I hate it when the boxes start falling apart so I moved all our card games to those containers. So much better! Don't sleep on those I only see them at back to school time! They used to carry sandwich sized ones too and are way better quality than the purple ones they carry year round. I haven't looked this year yet to see if they have them again! Bigger card games like uno fit into those and the ones we use for actual sandwiches have lasted for years. I do hand wash though.

I literally was shopping for back-to-school yesterday and started at the Dollar Tree, BUT, priced things on my phone against Walmart, and Walmart won out. I was surprised! For example, wide-ruled composition books, each 100 sheets -- $1.25 at Dollar Tree, and just $0.50 at Walmart.

Ten years ago, I graduated from the univ of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a degree in education--at age 67 years. I still get excited to see the new school supplies come. I also found good deals at office depot and staples. I strongly dislike Bic machinacal pencils.i write hard and the lead would snap/break surprising me. Then I discovered Pentel pencils and lead. The led comes in several #s. I still prefer them over pens. I think Walmart stopped carrying them...check and see. I'm pretty sure office depot has them once you use them, you'll never go back!

I think it's important to realize that the best way to study is going to be a little different for each person. A lot of people find flash cards very helpful. For me, it was the making of the flash cards that did most of the work. I get more out of writing things down. Some students are good at memorization, others struggle. If your student knows all the verses to their favorite song they can memorize if they can find the rhythm of the material they're working on. Try lots of different things but realize some times you just have to put your head down and slog.
