Are You Wasting Money on Groceries?

I miss the days of cheap groceries. Before I met my husband I could feed myself for $25.00/wk. When my husband and I got together he was really poor and could barely feed himself. He'd come to my house for dinner and then I'd make his lunch for the next day and send it home with him, cost me $50.00/wk. When we had 3 little kids our weekly budget was $60.00. I'd buy $10.00 for each food category; dairy/eggs, grain, meat, vegetables, fruit and household needs (TP, cleaning products, dish soap, shampoo/conditioner/hand soap. And that was difficult trying to get enough to feed us all. We used a lot of Jiffy muffin mixes for pancakes/muffins, oatmeal, bread, Raman with a little meat/vegetables/cheese thrown in for dinner and sandwiches/fruit for lunch. Now that I have more money and know a lot about nurtrion I cant justify buying some of that stuff anymore. When my dad lost his job and my mom opened up an in home daycare they and my 3 younger siblings still at home lived on macaroni and cheese with hotdogs for dinner, and these cheaper foods. My dad also learned how to do extreme couponing and sometimes came home with the grocery store owing him money. I never did figure out how he did it. I don' think you can even do that these days. I dont see stores accepting double/tipple coupons and such anymore.

Buying books taught me how to escape poverty because living in poverty is a nightmare.and it's very hard to escape this is why I buy books. However I would not spend my money on eating out, buying coworkers Christmas gifts, or buying money on cable or going to see a movie at your local theater.I know that kind of hurt me because I want to be a filmmaker but it's not important to be watching too much TV only about 2 hours of TV unless you are trying to be a film producer like me but if not just watch TV for two hours only and let go of the high cable bill if you have too help save money. But please buy books.

Reading is power. What I learned is that if I want to be rich I must read.

Okay when you said that you will not be buying any books. I just want to say this books are very important. Books give us knowledge. I know books have a lot of words and we don't have time to read them but I am buying books because what I have learned from buying books is 1. Books taught me how to become rich. Do you read books about money? That's important. 2. Books have taught me how to write a book myself because I am a writer. 3. Books have taught me how to become a filmmaker and screenwriter. 4. Books have taught me how to become a landlord. 5. Books help me to escape reality. Never talk bad about books around a writer. Authors don't like to hear a person say they are not buying books.

I want to try to buy some healthier options of things. I would like to throw out my air fryer and get a ceramic coated one. I like to throw out our plastic food containers and get Glass ones. I'm going to try to be healthier this year.

I seem to continually be decluttering. Dietician told me use protein powder no more than twice a week because it is so processed. Thanks for the video. Great ideas.

Great video to start the new year! Lots of things I can relate to...I thought I was the only one with the out of control blanket situation. It's just me and my husband (we are retired) so how many blankets do we really need? I just recently donated a lot of blankets. Our house is only 900 square feet with limited closet space so that really helped free up some space. Love your videos and have a Merry Christmas! 🥰

I went from buying 2 clothing items every week to two items all of last year. Shoes of course Lmaooouuut. We hardly eat out and use our beautiful kitchen in our new home to cook all meals. Probably saved $40k in a year. We got 2 beautiful havanese puppies after our last dog passed and they're a fortune, but thats good money there.

I had that Cosori Air fryer. They recalled it, I sent the info and they sent a brand new one. Then the new one started smoking during preheat from the top. I tossed it and bought another brand.

I don't even have my flours in any canisters right now. I need an in and out workhorse solution too. Looking pretty is secondary. 14:56 yes lol I don't think this and that are always congruent. I'd probably break something or get annoyed washing some of the containers out there honestly

Yeah I have read Anna Karenina, it was OK, but nowadays I am not into reading too much Russian literature, I must say, yes, I am prejudiced, but after being under soviet rule in the past, I think it's justified from my side. But I'm not sure I believe you when you say you won't buy more beef in 2025. :DDDD I'm not buying in 2025: - shower gels (we get some for free with purchase sometimes at LIDL, but I am wanting to transition into using soap bars anyway, which we already have in stock) - toothpaste (same as above, LIDL gives it as a free gift sometimes and I always have at least 2 tubes without trying...ok they might not be the best quality but how big of a difference does it make anyway?) - dishwashing sponges (I have too many!) - socks (except if I need to get rid of at least 5) - plastic food containers (I really want to transition to glass ones) And if I wanna get something, I first look at buying it used. That goes for clothes and furniture and stuff too.

Read “The Thursday Murder Club” RIGHT. Now. 😊 It will make you laugh, cry & introspective. Also “10x Is Easier Than 2x” was an interesting read but nothing we didn’t already know. I’m reading “War & Peace” in 2025. Maybe I’ll tackle “Anna Karina” in 2026. 😂

I absolutely agree with the "you need to declutter more". I went through so many phases of this. Almost every time, I realized the special things I bought to organize my "simplified" space were completely unnecessary once I removed what I really didn't need.

For the razors, I use a men's safety razor. The razor cost me $20, bought one for my husband as well. We also bought a box of razor blades for it for $20 that we thought would last us about 2 years . We're about 6 years in and going strong (because it take forever for them to actually dull!). Razors cost us almost nothing and they work so much better than the traditional style. Highly recommend.

The way it becomes relevant to you is you look at your home and see what you have 15 of and don't buy anymore or declutter a few. Obviously your list will not be exactly the same as hers. Mine isn't either.

It isn't a scanner. They are equipped with cameras that take pictures of the basket and compare those pictures to the receipts that have checked out. If it finds a match you are good to go. If the basket is overflowing and it can't take a picture of everything or there is something that doesn't match on the receipt it lets the door greeter know to scan that basket. For those people commenting that it is taking away jobs, a door greeter is still required to be at the door to verify baskets that the arch says needs to be scanned.

Super cheap labels - write on the sticky side of a Post-It note with a sharpie, below the sticky part, stick that on the inside of a clear container so it shows from the outside. If you change your mind, you've spent one penny on a Post-It note.

I have 70 year old cast iron pans that are absolutely wonderful. I will be using them for many more years to come. I also have a set of cutco pots and a couple of pans (for acidic dishes). The cutco is 13+ years old and still look amazing.
