As many of you have rightly pointed out, Earthbound is NOT in fact available through Nintendo Switch Online. The party responsible for this error (Admiral Beans) has been reprimanded accordingly. Sorry for the confusion.

Honestly fighting games were very popular at the time, I can't even think of the Super Nintendo without thinking of Mortal Kombat II, Mortal Kombat 3, and Killer Instinct, those games were basically Grand Theft Auto and Call Of Duty at the time, everyone was playing them, and everyone loved them. It is also a sin that Mario Kart was chosen over F-Zero, F-Zero is absolutely essential, even more than Earthbound, no one cared about Earthbound at the time, stuff like ActRaiser, and even Gradius III with its slowdowns, are much more important than Earthbound, heck NBA Jam T.E. and International Superstar Soccer are more important than Earthbound. I also would avoid All-Stars entirely, the originals are much better games than those remakes, I would rather see something like R-Type III, U.N. Squadron, Axelay, or Space Megaforce instead. Of course you need your Super Mario World, Super Metroid, Street Fighter II, A Link To the Past, Mega Man X, Kirby Super Star, Contra III, Yoshi's Island, Super Castlevania IV, and Donkey Kong Country, that goes without saying. Then for RPGs definitely Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI/III, Secret Of Mana, Illusion Of Gaia, the Breath Of Fire games, and Legend Of The Seven Stars, all massively popular because they were good. The Super Nintendo had a lot of good games in general like the Final Fight games, Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts, Tetris Attack, Hagane, Run Saber, Skyblazer, Imperium, Aero Fighters, HyperZone, Prince Of Percia, Sunset Riders, Sparkster, Ninja Warriors, Wild Guns, Harvest Moon, etc., it is hard to make a solid list. Many of the licensed games were fun as well, and there was a lot of those, Animaniacs, Aladdin, X-Men, The Avengers, Batman, Power Rangers, Alien, Predator, Looney Toons, Mickey Mouse, Goofy, RoboCop, The Terminator, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, but yeah, Turtles In Time would be the one to choose there. Then there is the middle ground stuff too like Battletoads & Double Dragon, the rushing beat series, Total Carnage, Smash TV, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Ghoul Patrol, Big Sky Trooper, Cybernator, Demon's Crest, Captain Commando, Knights Of The Round, The King Of Dragons, Magic Sword, Metal Warriors, etc..

Why don't they stand up today? There's far more enjoyment to be had in retro games in my opinion. Much of today's games rely on photo-realistic, movie-esque visuals and audio, and obsession with online play and features, rather than what made games so good in the first place i.e. the gameplay. Do you reckon today's titles will still have the same nostalgic appreciation and love in thirty years that classic NES, MS, SNES, Mega Drive, Saturn and N64 ones do? Methinks not.

@@sebastianhurst958 The Android/IOS/PC versions have graphical "improvements" that actually look worse than the original graphics, whereas the DS version graphics are as faithful to the SNES original as possible. The Android version also AFAIK has a nasty DRM that requires you to be online to play it. Which is the reason I stopped purchasing anything made by Square for mobile devices; I got hit with it on one of the Final Fantasy remakes, which prevented me from playing the game I legally purchased in the places I expected (where I didn't have mobile Internet), so I gave up on anything mobile made by Square. The one I currently play, though, is the PC version. It has improved, and there are mods to restore most of the changed graphics. It also has all the extras of the DS version.

You never spoke matter-of-factly as if it's etched in stone that something is the best PERIOD like literally every other copy and paste video list does. So I wanna thank you for that. I just want to give a quick shout out to Drakkhen. It was released on the Amiga initially, and later ported to SNES. Despite having a sort of odd gameplay set up, it was quite ahead of its time. It predated open world RPGs such as The Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age, Knights of The Old Republic, and plenty of others with its pseudo 3D graphics and real time combat. Plus the SNES version had a fantastic soundtrack that holds up well to this day. Arguably one of the more under appreciated titles in the library that's often overlooked due to it being kind of weird at first.

You know the SNES is too awesome when there's plenty of good exclusives(at the time) missing on this list like: Star Fox, FF5, Lufia 2, Breath of Fire 2, Harvest Moon, Tactics Ogre, Dragon Quest 5 and 6, Killer Instinct, Seiken Densetsu 3, Front Mission Gun Hazard, Fire Emblem games, the other two of the Quintet Trilogy, Tales of Phantasia, Mega Man 7, not to mention the multiplatform stuff!

I agree… Final Fantasy 3(6) was one of the best Final fantasy series of all time. Storyline, character designs, weapons, music etc … just so good. Also Super Mario RPG… such well made game. very cute and fun to play.

I REALLY want a Illusions compilation on switch similar to the collection of mana one; Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia/Time and Terranigma (at the very least) please!

Best platformer definitely. My overall number 3 on the SNES behind "The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past" and "Terranigma".

People putting Super Mario World as the "best" platformer are blinded by nostalgia. DKC2 is much better in every possible way. Gameplay, graphics, music, level design, enviroment variety, difficulty and secrets.

The Chrono Trigger phone app is surprisingly good, I'd recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to use an emulator.

In case the other person who still owns a PlayStation Vita is looking at this thread, that's a handy place to play Chrono Trigger as well (in addition to this era of Final Fantasy games).

Yeah I played Chrono Trigger on iOS and it works really well. I think it helps that the movement never needs to be terribly precise, so the virtual joystick works fine. Meanwhile something like A Link to the Past or Super Mario World would never work on a touchscreen because they require tight movement.

@@j.b.1903 Thanks! I just bought a Vita and I never knew Chrono Trigger was on Vita. I have always wanted to play it, but I hate playing games on my phone, I don’t have an SNES, and the DS version is semi-expensive. I will definitely buy it.
