Being portuguese, I found it interesting that the book about the portuguese princess (called Isabel) is called "A Curse of Roses", because in our history it is known as "Milagre das Rosas" (translated to The Miracle of Roses), in which she would transform bread into roses to trick the king's men.

I think that might be the legend it is based on :)

@@JeansThoughts Oh yes, it definitely seems to be, with some slight alterations. It was a beautiful story and we actually learned it in school here, both for the myth/legend part as well as the real historical part of her role in our History. It's interesting to know that a little bit of our legend and culture is being shared with the rest of the world. :)

There are honestly so many great books coming out next year - partially because so many had publication dates pushed back. I'm considering making a video for anticipated releases every month! There is just so much to look forward to!

P. Djeli Clark is releasing a full length novel of his Cairo series and it's the only one I'm actively dying for, now that Alecto the Ninth has been delayed until 2022. It's coming out in May and it's Fatima centred again and I can't wait for it.

Ohhh, this year I started and DNF'd a very popular YA book by a recently renowned Mexican YA author, precisely about vampires in México City. I was so excited because the premise REALLY intrigued me! Unfortunately I didn't like the writing style :( I'm SOOO glad Silvia Moreno García will be doing her take on that theme! I'll be anticipating Certain Dark Things

huh is certain dark things being republished in the UK or something? because i think it originally came out in 2016 and i read it last year. though i do remember it going out of print - anyway, i did really enjoy it! my own most anticipated release of 2021 is a lesson in vengeance by victoria lee, which is a dark academia with a f/f romance and i really enjoyed that authors debut!

I've been looking forward to this video for so long, you always have the best list of upcoming releases that I would have never heard of otherwise! I'm so excited for Afterlove by Tanya Byrne to come out in July, I read it earlier this year as an arc and LOVED it, I can't wait for an excuse to read it again😍

The iron raven is in an established series, there is a quartet and a trilogy before it. I assume since it is a new series you could start at this point though
@sayura93

The Iron Raven is a new trilogy that follows The Iron Fey series and The Iron Fey: Call of the Forgotten series. I'm not sure whether it would make sense without having at least some insight into the books since, especially in the first series, Puck is one of the main characters. However you are correct that in that whole world characters from Midsummer Night's Dream play a big part. Not sure whether you can call it a retelling though. Either way, it's one of my favourite series and I can't wait to get more of it. I can definitely recommend if you're up for some romantic fantasy.

i think my most anticipated reads for 2021 are 'she who became the sun' by shelley parker-chan releasing on 22/7 (pitched as 'mulan meets the song of achilles') and 'the kingdoms' by natasha pulley on 27/5 (queer (alternative?-) historical time travelling mystery).

Every culture has their own form of vampire though and a quick google of "Mexican vampire" gave me the Tlahuelpuchi, with belief if this creature having deep roots amongst the indigenous Nahua culture. Didn't want to come across as that Well actually guy but folklorish creatures are something I have an interest in and your "no native vampire's" comment had me questioning that.

This is the first video I've watched on this channel, so don't really know your taste but I do know a f/f YA romance fantasy: The Mermaid, the Witch, and the Sea bu Maggie Tokuda-Hall. The cover is stunning! "Aboard the pirate ship Dove, Flora the girl takes on the identity of Florian the man to earn the respect and protection of the crew. For Flora, former starving urchin, the brutal life of a pirate is about survival: don’t trust, don’t stick out, and don’t feel. But on this voyage, Flora is drawn to the Lady Evelyn Hasegawa, who is headed to an arranged marriage she dreads. Flora doesn’t expect to be taken under Evelyn’s wing, and Evelyn doesn’t expect to find such a deep bond with the pirate Florian. Neither expects to fall in love." I personally liked the first part of the book but the rest was a bit meh. Maybe you'll have more fun reading this. :3
