Good job. I've done a number of these over the years but always for family/friends, never to sell. A trick for you that I came up with a few years ago: when burning in your logo with a torch heated branding stamp, chuck the stamp/die in a drill press and clamp down your cutting board. That way you always apply straight down pressure and if the die isn't hot enough, you can always heat it up more and press down again on the exact same spot. No shadowing by misalignment of the the second pass. I learned the hard way!

Use to have a small commercial wood shop years ago with about 4000 square feet of space where I made unfinished pine furniture, trophy parts, plaques, shields,cutting boards, golf tees, pool ques, etc. I was in my 20's (over 55 years ago) ... worked by myself and sold to about 30 businesses. Was teaching college at the same time and did my woodworking about 2 days a week. Managed to buy most of my machines at auctions (best way to start a business since used woodworking equipment can often be bought at deep discounts if you keep your eyes open and follow all the industrial sales) . Several of the tools I owned worked well with plaques and wood turning. Had large panel saw, Italian back knife lathes for spindles, cues , bats. Gang gluing clamps (great for the cutting boards). Also 3 station heavy duty shaper, paint booth, powder coating equipment, drying ovens. Wanted to stay in business but many of the products I made were being undercut by off-shore producers and I would have needed to make the jump to much larger production levels to make decent living ... this was before the internet where everything was related to Price. So I packed it in, sold my gear and just became a full time ivory tower egghead ... not a lot of money but much easier to do. I really like your choice of wood species ... beautiful color choices. Good luck in your future endeavors ... I know you'll do well ... hope you can expand into bigger shop .... you'll find it's a lot easier to get things done efficiently. @@KrisDeVo ... Kris, operating at home in your garage is a tough way to work but I did the same when I first started. I had an old detached 2 car garage that I heated with a cheap tin wood-burning stove ... it's a wonder I didn't burn the damn thing down. Did it for 2 years and then moved into more space in an old historic Civil War fabric mill just outside of Baltimore ... cool location ... I moved to a larger area a couple years later in the same old factory ... stayed there for another 3 years ... then decided to get serious about teaching and became tenured in the business college nearby ... have 2 great kids (they're in their late 40's) and the rest is history as they say. Woodworking is a very competitive business because it is fairly easy to get started from an equipment standpoint ... to make a lot of money you've got to grow the business. Your approach will work since you have positioned yourself in a niche market ... (i.e. high quality, good design, low volume sales at high prices ... it works) ... you won't become a millionaire but I can tell you love working with wood. A word of warning from this ole geezer ... be sure to always wear a respirator ... I had a friend who loved woodworker as much as I do, he wore his mask sometimes, sometimes not ... he died of white lung which is as bad as smoking ... just be safe my friend

You dont really need much to make something like this. All of it can be done with hand tools which take up barely any space. When working with power tools you're trading labor for space, they require virtually zero labor but the tools are huge.

I cannot agree more on how much time a disc/belt sander saves me on numerous things. It only gets used for a few seconds at a time, but those seconds save minutes! Great video. I really appreciate the mineral oil bath idea as another great time saver.

A cutting board that has slide outs for a knife and other slide outs for your spices and even maybe the cutting board itself is a lid to a container below that holds more stuff. Even possibly your meat and ice and a couple beers. Oh and even a slide out burner with a propane connection. Would be an awesome multitool to slide in your backpack and to pull out with everything you need for camping or whatever.

Haha thank you! Loved your comment about sanding for two hours straight! My first commercial finish carpentry gig was creating prepared panels for a commercial installation. Laminated bamboo, two of us cut, edged, sanded and oiled about a thousand board feet of Plyboo to a complex and exacting cut list. Two weeks of work. Stuff smells like cat pee, and dulls tools, sandpaper, and your attitude in a hot minute. Anyway, thanks for the vid, and appreciate your attention to detail on long production jobs. Anyone who ain't done it, don't know what it takes.

that stuffs like $600 a sheet, made some cabinets from it and it was the hardest material i've ever had to build with.. could barely drill or cut it and god forbid tried to shoot a brad nail in it. stuffs freaking bullet proof thought if you manage to get something built with it

We all know how much you love sanding, but for the initial glue removal on my boards i use a Stanley No 80 cabinet scraper. It took me a couple of minutes to remove the glue ready to put them through the thicknesser. :)

Hi, how do you keep the padauk orange dust from bleeding into the other colors when sanding?

Blow it out with the air compressor before finish. If you still have issues you should sand to a finer grit
