Explaining a bit of how Dominicans venerate ancestors

Happy New Years to all. And yes some spirits or ancestors do become loa if they were very important. I have one ancestor which became a loa in Dominican culture, his name was general Cipriano Bencosme who was the first one to fight against Trujillo and lead a guerrilla against him in la cumbre moca. He died at the hand of Trujillos powerful army but was honored and remembered by many. He’s listed in books on Dominican vudu as one of the regional loa of Dominican vudu.

Hey bembesito i do have a question that needs a definite yes or no answer if you don't mind me asking! Is Palo Maymbo an open religion? I remember asking you that before but you never answered i think it is but only to a certain point idk because I never studyed Palo Mayombe thoroughly

Crys G. Correct ifa-orisa is one culture. Remember ifa is also part of regla de Osha in Cuba. In West Africa ifa is also part of traditional orisa worship in Yoruba land and it’s also a part of many other systems or traditions. Although ancestor veneration in Cuban ifa orisa varies very much from its traditional counterpart.

Vilma Brathwaite si ! Pero cuando uno tiene santo hecho yo le recomiendo a la persona que le pregunte a su orisha. Hay estar seguro de las cosas. Pero no hay ningún problema, ese cuento de que santo es lo último es algo antigua que se usó en cuba. Hoy ya la gente viaja y encuentra otras cosas y culturas lo cual llaman a uno y pues uno se inicia.

Michele G Miller good question! The answer is no. The spiritual bóveda as used in Cuban espiritismo is not of Dominican tradition or used in Haitian Dominican vodou.
