Lovely job Andrew, thanks for the shoutout mate. I still find the negative rake scraper to be one of the best finishing tools for milliput and acrylic but it does need constant sharpening, neg rake scrapers only hold an edge for a minute or so, especially when used on hard materials. I think you are going to like my next video. All the best, Jim

Yes, I was very impressed with your convertor and I plan to use it in future videos. When I bought it I was unsure how well it would work with video. As I use manual focus on all my turning work, the convertor actually worked a treat. Cheers Andrew

You earned it, my friend, nice piece.

Hi Lee - thanks for the feedback. I was happy with the result and I think it's the best bowl I've made so far. I'm going to give it to my mum for her birthday next week. Cheers Andrew

Excellent work Andrew. That turned out really well, very colourful and very eye catching. I've heard that with the epoxy, use a hairdryer to warm it up when you have put it in to help dislodge the air bubbles. I suspect that you didn't need much powder as a little goes a long way in epoxy as I found with glitter. One I think I will make a note of. Well done!

Thanks Paul - and thanks for the hairdrier tip. I was really pleased with the result and gave it to my mum for her birthday. She loves it. Apparently I can have it back if she cops it before me! Cheers. Andrew

Hi Andrew I just found your video and wanted to say you bowl with Colour and and the aluminium is one of the most beautiful bowls I have seen. I wish I could make one as Good and appreciate your efforts. Cheers Dave Sydney Australia

Hi Dave Thank you so much for your kind comments. I think the aluminium inlay looks well alongside the black milliput, but before trying it again I need to find an alternative solution for the aluminium mix to avoid air holes. Also, thanks for subscribing. No pressure there then! Cheers. Andrew

Beautiful project, Andrew. What is the identity of the scraper that you used to undercut the rim on the concave surface? If I am seeing it properly, I don't recall seeing the carbide disc on the underside of the tool bar. Thanks.
@tiddlerfromtad5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Steven. I think the tool I used for the undercut was a Robert Sorby multi tool. I moved into machining metal last year, and sold all my woodturning stuff - so I can't double-check. Woodturning was great fun, but not enough hours in the day to enable me to make model steam engines too! All the best. Andrew

Andrew, are you sure you're presenting the negative rake scraper to the piece in the way it was meant to be? Personally, I think you are presenting it upside down to what it should be.

Hi Len, thanks for trying to help me with this. I've just checked the instruction sheet that came with the tool and it looks like I was holding it the right way up. Jim Overton recons that the tool quickly loses it's edge and needs regular sharpening, so I'll run my diamond file over it. However, thanks again for trying to help me with this. Cheers Andrew

I was going to make the same observation as Len but TBH, it's all about the bur and which side of the scrapper that is presented. I'm no expert when it comes to scrapers but there are a few good videos out there to help (Brendan Stemp, Eddie Castelin, Wyoming Woodturner and I think Mike Waldt have covered the topic). Cracking video by the way. I should have started with that. :o) Cheers, Ben
