I’ve been using Slicex for as long as I’ve had FL and I prefer it over Edison almost every time, but not one video on KZbin has as this much articulation and understanding that I don’t want to just know how to do something, I need to know what and why I’m doing something a certain way. Not my discovery but to get a play-through effect (for those who don't know, meaning the sample doesn't stop at the end marker and plays till you let go). Delete the sustain node, make a new one, drag it all the to the top and drag it really far back considerably and voila, more freedom for better unique sampling but make note: it will have to be recorded.

Great video! There is one thing that bothers me though - let's say I stretch my chops to a certain length (in miliseconds) using the alt+t, but if I later decide to change my BPM I would have to re-stretch my chops again (is that correct?). Can I stretch the chops in a way that will respect the grid itself and adjust to the correct lenght when I change the BPM?

When I open any file on slicex it shows everything already pre-sliced. Your keybinds are not the default as I highlight everything and press control shift delete and all it does is delete my audio, not the markers. How can I make it not auto slice? How can I make it so my keybind is the same as yours because they do not work for me the way they work for you. How did you import that file into slicex? Did you open it from the channel editor? Did you import it from the plugin itself? These things aren't helping me :/
@prodbyANT4 жыл бұрын
Bruh you are the absolute GOAT. I just learned so much. A lot of sampling vids are just like "Drag sample into Edison, find your loop, drag it into the playlist" which is fine, but not many people are out here doing actual sampling tutorials with SliceX. I had a question about zero crossing. Does it matter if the 2 lines meet and they're not perfectly in the center (think Edison's green line as the center)? I've always heard that you want to try and get as close as you can to the center when chopping up loops to avoid the popping/cracking, but now I'm starting to wonder if that's even necessary. Should I even worry about that? Or just find zero crossing and not worry about how close it is to the green line? Hope this question makes sense.
@NavieD4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much man, I am glad you dug the video! For me, I love sampling so getting into deeper concepts with sampling is something I definitely want to do more of. As for slicing on zero crossing, it's something that is a good idea, but having said that it's not the end of the world if you don't. My no means will it ruin your beat. It will just create a click noise every time (and how loud depends on how far off the zero crossing you are). Having said that, if you can't hear it, then I wouldn't worry. Some guys need to get EXACTLY on the zero crossing but for me, it's not that big of a deal if you just get close enough. Also, a lot of the time other sounds you layer on top (like drums) might end up drowning it out anyways. I wouldn't fret about it too much unless it's super audible and it is distracting in your beat.

Quitely helpful tips. But what if I try to change the tempo of the song, Length of bars would gets longers or shorten. then should i stretch the whole samples in Slicex again? Is there any ways to use Slicex just like stock sampler's time stretch? It changes its length when i change the tempo. It's very convenient way to arrange the song tho. and one more Qs. Can I stretch various indivisual markers in the same length? I guess those functions are just not available in Slicex yet. If it's available, I want to know. sorry for bad english. not my mother language. love your videos from korea.(not north) thank you!

Ok, my question is: how to chop vocal sample (acapella) perfectly with the bpm of the track? Lets say i have acapella and i know that it comes from the track with 92 bpm. I drag that acapella into the slicex, set up its bpm to 92 and place my marker #1 perfectly when vocal starts with the original beat starting. Now i want to chop this vocal perfeclty when kick and snare hits four to the floor, so marker #1 kick, #2 snare, #3 kick, #4 snare and so on. Idk if I explaind it well because my english is bad ;)
@NavieD4 жыл бұрын
So if you go to auto chop there is a section where you can select auto chopping based on grid. Unfortunately, even though the BPM of the song is set you may run into issues if the song itself doesn't end perfectly on beat (for example the song fades out and cuts off halfway between a beat); this will change the timing of the overall song and the function don't work. So I'd recommend truncating the sample to make sure it's length ends perfectly on beat to use this feature

Thank you, this helped out a ton. You should do a video on how to send those chops to the FPC plugin in order to use a 16 pad midi controller. I used the iMPC pro 2 before I got FL Studio and I miss that kind of workflow sometimes. It’s so fast chopping samples and shit because of the touch screen. I just got an old mpd32 and I’m going to try and recreate that workflow to break the monotony of just the mouse, keyboard, midi keyboard thing I got going on.

Great video! Thanks for the tips. I would love to see a comparison between Slicex vs. Big Fish's free Momentum plugin and you tell us your thoughts about it. Some people are comparing it to Arcade without the subscription, others say it's like Serato Sample. I have not used it yet. Based on what I've seen on the their website, Momentum seems easier & more user friendly.

Funny enough, I actually did a video on it a few weeks back. I got Momentum and plan on using it for all of my sampling needs from here on

@@NavieD Thanks Navie! I will look it up. I've been dragging my feet on deciding. I know I can use other loops from my library with wav. and other formats with Momentum but what confuses me is the format options when buying samples from Big Fish. I'm wondering if I select a loop package formatted with Momentum vs. Multiformat, how that could that be limiting. It seems if at the time of purchase I select momentum format, then I could never use the loop sample in Slicex or other loop sample editing plugins because momentum is not formatted wav. or any of the other formats. If that is so and something better comes along from one of the competitors then all my samples purchased with the momentum format would be forever stuck in their format and not in one of the other usuable sample editing plugins. When ordering from Big Fish what is your format preference? Do you just go with the multiformat option or the momentum format? Thanks inadvance!

@@butterflyj685 I actually just use momentum purely as a sampler since you can drag your own wavs in there and manipulate/use them. The sample packs they provide looked really expensive from what I saw briefly, so I didn't purchase any. Looking at the free sample loops they provide, it does look like they're wav files though. Sorry I don't have a definitive answer. You can always just download it for free and download the free packs to see whether it fits your needs

Here is something i struggle with and could maybe be a video idea? One you have a loop going 16 bars say.. going into the next 16 the song should evolve somehow, but stay cohesive. This is something i really struggle with. Maybe some tips on that! love the vids man.
