@@brads1545 I wonder if the difference is day to day style. Teddy is generally preppy and white collar. The explorer is better than most of these watches if your day to day wear is tactical gear and camping. Sure the explorer dresses up ok, but it's kinda of a stretch in a suit. Sure the Tissot Gentleman dresses down okay, but it's kind of a stretch working on your motorcycle.

Hey Teddy, I just left Cleveland. Went there with my family. We're from Germany on vacation in the US. Only because of your Q & A, where you answered "Why Cleveland", I had the idea to visit on our trip. It's been really nice. The old industrial charme meeting modern architecture. Old steel, new glass - just loved it. The Brewdog was also very nice. 😊 Thanks for the indirect tip and in general the great content here on KZbin. Cheers! Michael

The wrist shot of the Explorer is one of the best I have ever seen. It really conveys how the watch actually wears. Most wrist shots make the 36 look way bigger than it actually is.
@dskim24
@dskim24 Жыл бұрын
I noticed that too. In terms of photography, people need to back up a bit and use a longer lens. On the other hand, the case-exaggerating effects of the closer and wider angle does convey the experience of having your face close to the watch as one would when looking at your own watch. I believe it was Annie Liebovitz who liked to walk the line of a lens that's too short; whether or not the viewer understood the effects of forshortening, a brain will automatically understand that you're closer to that person's face. Same with these wrist shots. But I always think huge cases look terrible. Unless you're a linebacker, I think 38mm should be your upper ceiling. You'll end up looking like a kid wearing his dad's jacket.

haha, I think you're right, thought of that one, too. I've got a vintage Chronomaster from yr ~2000, that I find is very dressy and chique and would probably fit into most outfits with that silver guilloché dial. However, talking about versatility, I can see this one loose ground to others just because it's maybe a bit too classy for rather casual outfits.

Dear Teddy: I try to watch all you videos and take your advice seriously. but why do you not ever include anything from a brand like Chronoswiss? Is it because you don't sell them, are they a bad watch? I am not just asking about them but others as well. It seems like a lot of you guys on KZbin just regurgitate the same brands and models over and over. Not to say that your choices are not good, and of course taste plays into things and its impossible to include all brands, but I was wondering what your thinking is when you create your lists?

I agree with many comments here, I can’t understand how you can consider a Speedmaster here. It has basically no water resistance It’s not a tough watch It can’t really match modern professional watches and not really the best looking watch either. In the Omega family your better off with a Seamaster 300 It’s tough, can go under water and heck the Prince of Wales uses it as his everyday watch

I own the Ahoi 567 and think it works in just about any occasion (as is also marketed by the brand) - classic Tangente design but with improved water resistance and crown guards. So the Ahoi is definitely more sporty, but the size and thickness means it also works very well with buttoned up attire 🙂

Why does everyone in the watch community focus on water depth rating. Out of 100 watch aficionados, how many do you really think have been in water deeper than 10' in the last 10 years. And for that matter, how many non-divers actually need to know what time it is when they're swimming, or showering? For 99% of watch folks, being able to wash your hands is about the most water resistance they'll ever need in a watch.

Rolex has so many models than could be an One and Only watch. But the king has to be the Datejust.

Great choices and excellent quality content as always, Teddy 👍 One watch I think you missed is what Bulgari just unveiled - the new Octo Roma. It's thin and wearable with the bracelet and a rubber strap both included in the package at msrp & an easy strap-change system incorporated into it. I think it is the very definition of versatile. Also,😊 at $7000, it beats the pants off the Cartier Santos and gives stiff competition to the Rolex Explorer (which, ngl, is still my grail) 😊

I use an Orient RA-AR0003L as an everyday watch since it wears pretty nicely for most purposes, whether casual or official. I do use a G-shock DW-9052 I got as a gift as a beater, but the sapphire on the Orient really gives me peace of mind. My Orient has more or less kept time within 30s over an entire month, which is ~1s every day averaged.

I really enjoyed this video! As always it was interesting in seeing your picks. I must admit that you surprised me by picking the Murph and the Speedmaster, but I can see your points of consideration for selecting both. I don’t usually rewatch a Watch video but this one is an exception. Well done!🥃

The Nautilus is the Amex Centurion (a.k.a. Black Card) of the watch world. You rarely see it, but when you do, you know *exactly* what it implies.

Really great video, however I’ve found a watch with everything for less than £280!. Swiss brand, automatic, sapphire crystal, AR coating, 100m WR, and the build is just awesome. Roamed Primeline Rotapower 703-660… I cannot understand why so little is mentioned about this brand. Keep up the good work

The Roamer Primeline I know is 50m WR, where did you get yours? Roamer is very underrated, and it´s a great brand

124270 FTW. I’ll never sell off all my watches because too many are sentimental, but I could easily only wear my Explorer every single day. Sent before I saw the next watch. My wife dailies a jubilee/fluted DJ and it goes surprisingly well with just about everything. My next Rolex will be a 36mm Wimbledon. Need to snag before they discontinue 👀

Hi Teddy! I suggest to look at the Traska models “Commuter” and “Summiteer” as more affordable alternatives to a Rolex Explorer or Oyster Perpetual. Speaking about the Rolex OP-Line - IMHO a black OP is even more versatile than an Explorer. Best wishes, Claus

Yep I would argue the OP fits the bill better short of a loud color version. Keep it at black, navy, or the silver and you’re good to go.

Teddy! "Versatile" and no quartz watches?? There's some great suggestions in your video, but if any of my friends asked for advice on a versatile one-watch solution, I'd definitely throw in a couple of quartz pieces, especially solar (like a Seiko or Citizen Eco-Drive). Many of these are super-legible, 100m+ water resistant, set and forget watches that could be the dictionary image for versatile. The Citizen Brycen on your site springs to mind as a great example.
