I think that you missed out something crucial, and that is that skydweller wearers also want this model because it has the most complicated movement that Rolex make... something I feel that also applies to what you mentioned before about the white gold sub ,that only people who know about the industry and the horology of watches will recognize and appreciate :) loved the video though :)

Really interesting take on the types of Rolex buyers. I noticed that you didn't mention the Yacht-Master Blue & Rhodium (40 & 37mm) dial versions. I personally consider them amongst the most stunning and under-rated models in the Rolex catalogue.

It breaks my heart how the ceramic Daytona has completely taken over and now the steel bezel is looked down upon, despite the fact that for decades it was the absolute darling of the collection, with buyers willing to wait years and years for an opportunity to buy one. Thanks so much for your insight. I'm looking to buy my first Rolex as a daily wear and I'm deciding between a smooth Datejust with jubilee or oyster bracelet. Your assumption is a perfect match! Question though - does the Jubilee offer a wider range of bracelet fitment sizes due to the smaller link length? The only bad thing about my old Seamaster is the lack of micro adjust which is hell when my wrist swells, so I want my next watch to be comfortable.

Bought my first Rolex this past June… 2005 Bluesy and a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Lady Date with Diamond bezel for my wife …then went on to buy the 2023 Datejust with Mint green dial fluted bezel and oyster bracelet in July. August was a 2017 Datejust in white gold with a Rhodium dial and Jubilee bracelet. September was a 2023 Yachtmaster, October was a 2010 Polar White Explorer II (which was the one I went to buy to begin with back in June), and November was a 2008 Milgauss with a white dial …. The one that started it all for me, as far as buying a Rolex was concerned, but I never pulled the trigger on buying …. Went a little bit ham this year 😳

I used to phone around for months on end putting my name down and then all of a sudden they started to call. Within 18 months I had 3 Daytonas (2 white dial and 1 black) And a DeepSea Dweller. And what made them purchases even better was the 10% Discount card that I had from being a shareholder in Signet group (£20 worth of shares) who owned Ernest Jones Jewellers. I kept a White for myself, Let my pal have a White, Offered the Black to another pal for cost price (he didn’t want it) so I sold it to a watch dealer for a £900 profit and also sold the SeaDweller for list (I earnt the 10% as profit) If I could have afforded it I would have kept them all. 🙁

So pretty much everyone that buys any of them is doing pretty well in life. Lol. I have the datejust w smooth bezel (but I also have a wg fluted bezel if I wanna switch out for more classy look.) and a day date. The datejust is def the more everyday pending if I'm wearing wg chain. And the day date is when I'm wearing my yg chain more on dressy occasions. I wear the datejust also if I'm driving the cayanne turbo. Then the daydate when driving the 911 turbo.

Excellent video. There's just one thing I'd like to metion. Rolex being elusive to a big chunk of watch lovers has kinda changed what people would likely pick. Its like if rhe AD calls and says I have a sub (date) and I wanted a no date version, chances are ill just take it because I'm not sure if ill get the one I want anytime in the near future. So my first Rolex was the SD 43, followed by the explorer 2 polar and I'm getting a GMT master II sprite tomorrow. I wanted a Batman but I picked the Sprite on the jubilee instead. But the video is spot on otherwise if people had to pick without being made to wait an eternity. Hoping I don't regret my decision of buying the sprite instead of the Batman. Thanks for the video!

Yes so with this being such a highly sought after model, it would be unlikely you will be able to get this model as your first watch. You may have to build a relationship and buy a few other less desirable pieces to get offered this one down the line. I hope this helps! 🙌

Submariner no-date 14060 has to be my alltime favourite. 2 lines of text on bottom, tritium that can patina but still has the white gold outlineson the lume, slim case, aluminum bezel that will fade over time, 3000 series movement, and such a clean symmetrical look. The only thing that could make it better would be if it came with solid links. I have other, flashier Rolex sports models but for some reason never picked up a classic 14060 🤷‍♂️ idk why i do this to myself

I’ve got a no date sub and am looking for a second watch. Does the 39MM white dial OP fit for a dressy/weekend watch? The white Daytona is a grail but I can’t pull the trigger on that one just yet.

Personally I’d consider the white dial sportier, but presumably dressier than a Sub. It really depends on how dressy you want it to be. In the end it’s still a steel oyster bracelet watch and will be less dressy than a million other options on a leather strap. Still a nice watch though!

Yes I would say the OP range is more dressier than a Submariner, but the great thing about both these watches is they do great for all occasions!

What? No honorable mention of the Kermit/Hulk/Smurf variants in the Sub family? Have a 2009 Kermit and a 2010 Hulk that is just fantastic. Both have a totally different wrist presence than the SS/Black dial. Not as blingie as the Bluesy, but a lot more rare to find out in the wild. ~The type of client who has the colored Subs appreciate the Tool Watch roots, love the modern color splashes, appreciates exclusivity, history, heritage, and is more than happy to daily wear them~ ...even if there is a Daytona sitting at home in the winder!

The salesmen at Rolex Authorised outlets have turned into downright dogs. They are rude and very rough with anyone going to try out the watches on the wrist. I was yelled at recently and told not to move from my place by the sales staff at the Rolex AD store at the Ion Orchard mall Singapore. Rolex has gone Toxic 🤢

I have to say, you are spot on! I have an 07' Sea Dweller which is my everyday, for the exact reasons that you mentioned about the Submariner. I dived offshore for 22 years and the watch was my treat to my self, and now I'm looking at a GMT Pepsi jubilee for its collectability. lol... that's too funny. Good Job.

I guess I'm in the minority, but the Daytona just doesn't blow my dress up. Every chrono I've ever bought has left the collection within months. I don't mind the look of the watch, and can certainly appreciate the investment potential, but I just don't have the love for it. Also, being a tall and sturdy guy, it might look a little smaller on wrist than one of the Dwellers or YM42. I've even warmed considerable to the YM II, though it will be a long time to afford the YM II. The watch itself is doable, but the racing sailboat you have to buy to go with it... yikes. :)

For me, have been very selective as well as very lucky in the selection of my Rolex watches. My first one I got is a 2950's Date just Bubbleback with Red numbers. I liked it because of my interest in things that are (VINTAGE) different but understood by others as well as not as common as the rest that others will buy for themselves based more on trend than taste. My next one I got is a 5512 Submariner I bought at a Pawn Shop for what I thought back then in 1994 was a lot ($750.00), but as we all know, is highly collectable nowadays. I do have a contemporary GMT II Root Beer, again because I liked the look being different from so many others I see so often. For something more subtle I wear a 1940's 14K Bubbleback with a sub second hand in 14K Rose Gold. Again for me it's not about status, but the artistry and the craftsmanship that goes in to each of these pieces. Although I like the flashier Day-Date pieces along with the Daytona's, they just draw too much attention from others and that's not something I'm interested in. If you have the means get the one that fits YOU !

my personal favorite is the last watch in the video, the 116518LN Paul newman dial with the red. The new paul newman dial does not have the red anymore and I think that lost its special touch. So for me its the watch on my bucket list.
