When I started learning Japanese, I was a teenager. One of the first phrases I tried to translate was いい加減にしなさい. I thought, "I'm gonna look up each word in individually on an online dictionary and understand what this phrase means." " 'Good... Degree... To... Do?' What does that mean?!" Later on, I saw it translated as "shut up." "So, 'good degree to do' is 'Shut up'?" It's not 閉め上がる? It was at that moment that I realized, different languages use different words to explain the same concept.

This is an amazing example, thank you for sharing!
@shurikens684 ай бұрын
Best part is it also doesn't technically mean shut up either lol. That's more 黙れ or うるさい territory. いい加減にしなさい is kinda like telling someone to knock something off, to stop acting up, so you'll see it pop up in much more variety of situations.
@siti-hon-asi4 ай бұрын
I am Japanese. Indeed, if we were to categorise it broadly, it would be "shut up". If you want to put a finer nuance on it, it would be expressions like "leave it at that" or "that's enough".
