@Lazarus-xy4fr4 жыл бұрын
Uhhhhh, Mike, absolutely LUVVVVV, all the work you do on your channel, however I have a question. WHY would you plant grass seed on a forest trail that you JUST spent so much time clearing? Was it just to prove that grass could grow in the forest, or what? I TRULY am curious.

In NH we call a path like that a snow mobile trail. Looks great Mike. Love the onboard camera shots.

In my mind, a day out in the woods doing something on my property is never "a waste of time". You got a bit of exercise out in the woods, did something that you hope will be productive and still got to ride on the tractor. I would call that a good few hours of time.

I'm looking around....and wondering how this fall and all the leaves will affect the outcome for next year. We have planted raspberry plants on our property and the wild grass dominates everything, so we are constantly cutting around the patch. Leaf blower sounds like work....but maybe a quick pass with the mower is all you will need to throw the leaves out of the way. Not familiar with that country, so will be fun to see the outcome.

Nice work Mike. You didn’t mention much about your grass choice. I know there are blends of grass that combine some kind that are fast growing like winter rye with others that are better for shade. When you follow up with this in the next video try and let us know what you used and why - and how well it did or didn’t go. Keep them coming.
@tauntlines77126 жыл бұрын
Enjoy your work , curious to see how the grass works out with shade especially when you had mentioned earlier about soon wanting leaf cover to blend the trail into the landscape, I can’t help but want to gravel a trail as top finish coat but as much a binding base to help with mud etc. if turns out well yours would be much less maintenance and expense especially if looks just as nice and is enjoyable for walking the property

Couple of frames either side of that packer with Poly water tanks inside that you can fill and empty as required would work for extra weight. I think that mix should work, I hope for your friends sake or he might have international egg on his face:) Another great video Mike, keep em comin!

Mike: I would like to know what method of Autumn leaf collection you use. Being on my farm for 30 years, even the trees that Melissa and I have planted are mature. The amount of leaves from the plantings plus surrounding forest that perpetually blow directly to home and barns, etc are OVERWHELMING in collection. At 70 years old I need, well WANT, a better method of removal. Currently use a JD Zero turn with factory secondary exhaust blower/grinder and cart. I am inclined to go with larger equipment the Fall. Just would like your input. Dave & Melissa, Shenandoah Valley

Mike, I just wanted to echo what everyone else is saying about how great this series of videos (and all the others) have been. I am also enjoying the "special effects" you (or Melissa) have added to the last two videos. I wish I had just half of your energy then maybe I could get some more things done around here. :)

Thanks Mike for the tips. Used Fescue Red shade grass seed in shady areas on one of our very rich soil tractor paths, but highly shaded with deciduous and mixed evergreens. Local Southern States Coop thinks I am nuts to waste time as it is August. Probably a waste of a few hours and $100.00 of seed. Areas near and on trails are barren and need erosion control. Excess rains this year and trail clearing destroyed even weeds. Several areas of partial shade I mixed in rye. I did that one late July in 2010 after having a sunroom built, over 3/4 acre needed grass. Rye was up in a few days and gave slower growing grass the time it needed to germinate, grow healthy in hot summer. I was mowing it carefully in 6 weeks. This is lower Shenandoah Valley in a water, springs rich property. I'll know in a few weeks. As long as I am outside. Even rainy days is always a beautiful day

I think the cultipacker frame is already designed to be the weight "holder". Usually one uses solid cement blocks.If from back to front between the frame angle iron is in 6" increments (heavy 12" ,18" or even 24")the solid blocks will fit.Hollow blocks will work but the solid ones are a lot heavier.

Mike, enjoyed the video again but couldn’t help noticing that the steering wheel on the tractor is twisted so that the RK is lying down on the job when you are driving straight forward. Lol. Sorry my eye picks up things like that. Nice shirt by the way, nothing like the tee shirt you had on in the last video. Melissa must be thrilled. Lol.

The steering is hydrostatic/hydraulic ...not a positive geared engagement....so the wheel will change rotation in relation to the direction constantly ….a little at a time....

@OutdoorsWithTheMorgans6 жыл бұрын
Zac Keller. No
@10esseeTony6 жыл бұрын
Anything over 24HP now has the emissions equipment, although I am not sure DEF is required, there is a particulate filter that occasionally you will get a warning light that you need to run full throttle for 30 minutes or so to burn up the sediment captured. But I am probably totally wrong. :D
@fjb52636 жыл бұрын
10esseeTony I hope you are that is total bs especially for off road equipment it’s bad enough on the trucks.

Mike, You may have a problem where the Maples are growing near your road. The Maples put out a webbing of shallow roots that zap all the moister . You can't hardly grow anything underneath them for that reason. They will take over your whole woods. In 10 years or so watch and see what all the sapling are, as their will be just hundreds of young Maples. Where I am living use to be all Oak, Hickory,Walnut etc. woods and the bottom land was Maples. I guess the prairie fires would keep the Maples in check. I have had real good luck with Kentucky 31, grass seed . Even up against the North side of the Woods, my roadway has been in about 30 years. It is the South side of my field and gets a lot of traffic. Good luck
