Nice welder. I am a beginner. I clicked on the video because I saw the HOBART. I am using one at work, it's a different model, but looks identical to yours. The machine is solid and easy to use. I am considering buying this welder for my own personal use. Good video, thanks a bunch.👍

That’s a good welder, easy to use and reliable like no other. HOBART is the best! This welder can do everything the manual says and a little more. If you have the money, get the spool runner and get into aluminum welding just for fun. You are going to love it. Nice door frame and your construction work in impressive. Thank you for sharing.

Great video man looking forward to your live stream on the 13th.

Nice job on the door frame, your right, it's not going any where. I'm curious how you are going to cut the hole in the wall for your vent you were talking about. All i can come up with is your chain saw. lol. And how will you miss all the nails. Sorry for all the questions, i'm just curious.
@TKCL4 жыл бұрын
Been thinking about that myself. Will probably cut a square hole before sheathing with plywood, will then cut a circular hole with my jig saw in the plywood since my vent is rounded. I think I'll start by drilling through with a auger bit and then rough cut with my sawzall since it has a 9 inch blade.
@kirkbrinkley69904 жыл бұрын
Looking great! Just a thought/question...Will the door swing inward or outward? If you plan for an outward swinging door, it may be a good idea to keep a jack of some sort inside the shelter to help open the door in case a storm leaves debris in front of the door where you couldn't escape.
@TKCL4 жыл бұрын
Outward and that's been a concern of mine. I'll be building a metal escape door that serves as the window unit AC opening. I'll be building that a little later but have thought long and hard how to make it secure and serve its purpose for a AC. Being in Florida we will most likely be staying in this for hours during hurricanes. So a AC is a must, at least while we have power. The AC will be on the opposite side of the shelter for escape reasons and structural reasons.
@teveler4 жыл бұрын
I am no builder... but what I have read the door should swing in. If something ends up leaning against the door while you are in there it can be a pain to get out! Really impressive!
@TKCL4 жыл бұрын
I've got that part covered, I've discussed it a few times. The AC unit hole is also going to serve as a secondary Escape Route. So if something blocks the door, we have another way out.

Before you put a siding on it( hopefully cement board) wrap it with 5/8 fire rated drywall.
@TKCL4 жыл бұрын
Yes I'm absolutely doing cement board to match our house. Why do you say fire rated drywall? Isn't cement board completely fireproof?
@j.walker34984 жыл бұрын
@@TKCL yes a little bit, the drywall can be sealed and give it a heat rating. siding has small air gaps, and usually 1/4-3/8 thick. if you wrap it in drywall seal it the place 1x2 for air gap then your cement siding. should protect against grass fires. basically gives you more time. like a freedom tool safe does.

I am thinking about building this shelter. What was your cost. Thanks I love the videos
@TKCL3 жыл бұрын
I'm almost done and without adding every receipt up, Id say around 3000. Keep in mind I had a lot of the 2x6 material already from the storm damaged building. Lumber is extremely high right now, so your cost would be quite a bit higher

Please tell me the maximum thickness your welding can weld?
@TKCL4 жыл бұрын
It's rated for 3/8 inch in one pass. I think that's a bit optimistic personally, but I have no doubt 1/4 or less in one pass. On 3/8 material I'll probably do 3 passes to make myself feel better. It's extremely powerful to be a compact welder with no wheels. Welding cart build coming soon!

Truly appreciate your support, we are sitting by the fire now eating! Just showed Tiffany your response, we will be looking for you this weekend! I've researched welders for literally years. You can't beat Hobart (aka Miller) for the price. Bulletproof transformer welders that you can actually get parts for. PS if you decide to order, use our Amazon link in the description of any video. Won't cost you any extra and supports the channel. Best price at the moment too, or at least it was for me last week. 😁

Forgot to mention the Hobart 190 is a very capable and popular welder at a cheaper price. If you need a medium duty home/shop welder, it's very hard to beat for the price. Check out the reviews on it!

why would you put a storm shelter that far away from the house? it is always gonna be horrible weather you have to get out in to get into it.

Storm shelter was built long before the known location of the house. It's main purpose is for hurricanes (Florida). We get plenty of notice.
