I think that is the beauty of Soviet gymnastics choreography. They put so much emphasis on the little details - the feet, hands, posture, head carriage, and even down to the fingers so that it matches beautifully to the music. It was such an art!

This is so cool! You can really see the ballet training in this routine. She was posturing to the judges a lot and I personally prefer when they play to the audience. However, things were different at that time :)

Her posture, line, extension, and toe point are almost unreal. I can see why there was so much hype around this gymnast in the early 80s. It's too bad that her competitive career was so short and she couldn't have competed in at least one Olympic Games (darn that boycott!)

@@MrMartinportnoy She had a massive growth spurt between 1984 and 1985. When she showed up to the 1985 Worlds, she was much much taller than before. I think she also said that one of the reasons why she retired was because old injuries never healed properly.

I’m a massive fan of Yurchenko’s floor routine from 1985 but I have to admit that this routine tops that. It’s like a dream - I could watch it over and over again. Even the hand and arms movements accentuating key points in the music. Beautiful.
