Why destroy one brand, when you can destroy two, for half the price. There is very little scope for exageration when I say that Fallout 76 will be a defining moment in gaming history. Bethesda and the Fallout franchise will never be the same.
Special thanks to Jason T Barnes, Mario J. Martinez, Dean McGee, Steve, Alcoholistair, and all of my Patreon supporters. Their stoic support humbles me.

@@21Kiloton I belive it's due to the Studio Ghibli movie, Whisper of the Heart, which prominently featured the Country Roads sung by Olivia Newton John (Her version peaked at #10 in Japan), and was a reoccuring theme throught the movie. Edit: This is also shown by the footage @ 13:10 where the line is sung "concrete road" which is a line from the parody song used in the movie.

Exactly. They cashed out knowing they were going to sell out to Microsoft who would lend them the clout for the cultists to excuse and believe in the future of Bethesda, and the redemption story dialogue that will follow. I didn't know who was buying it at the time, but it was the only theory that made perfect sense at the time, and now it's resolving in the most predictable way. 🙄

I love how this game launched disastrously, yet somehow it just gets worse everyday. It's as if the Challenger shuttle was loaded with 50 tonnes of nuclear explosives, was fired into an orphanage, and we're getting offered HIV laced marshmallows to roast over the embers. The layers of shit just never stop peeling away.
@spiderland7811

I was a 5 year old sitting in a barber's chair getting my hair cut when the Challenger was launched. I was watching it on their television. I remember every little detail like it happened yesterday. That was the day I realized bad shit can happen to people. The orphanage was ready and packed full of little kids my age or younger but the shuttle blew up before it could reach the intended target. Hundreds of unwanted children had to remain burdens of the state. The HIV marshmallows had to be loaded back onto the trucks and returned to storage. It was bad day for everybody but easily the most interesting experience I've ever had in a barber's shop.

This comment made my day too, a well needed laugh. I was in 3rd grade when the Challenger disaster happened. A national tragedy that good people died in, yet it was still an more honorable event than this could ever resolve to be in the end, I feel. That's speaking in the general social sense anyway. It's kind of shocking how much collateral damage companys can actually do, and do it legally. I really don't like new legislations, as they do damage in of themselves. But they're a response to mass abuse of their own consumer base. Thats the possible silver lining as a result of things like this. Limits imposed on those who can't help themselves to stop abusing [their customers]. It's always a difficult process, but as a (relatively) new market, it will eventually get better, because it will have no choice but to do so. Still a shame though.

Daily reminder that Fallout fans, and Bethesda fans are two complete separate fandoms and they should not be treated as one and the same. Fallout fans are furious at Bethesda because of what they've been doing to this fine franchise since Fallout 3. Bethesda fans on the other hand will eat up literally everything that has Bethesda logo on it no matter if it's broken or not.

I do not explicitly agree with the multiplayer comment. Some are worth it, some are not. I get it, eventually the servers do shut down, but you can still derive value from the game. Personally, I feel the industry took a hit when physical distribution began to decline, to coincide with the rise of "games as a service." Publishers used to have to ship a game that was *substantially* finished. Not anymore, obviously.

4:09 "They (Bethesda) have made some of the most xyz games in history." I've been seeing this everywhere, but everyone needs to keep in mind that Bethesda Softworks did NOT actually develop Doom 2016, Dishonored, or the recent Wolfenstein games. Those were developed by Id Software, Arkane Studios, and Machinegames respectively. Bethesda Softworks only publishes games, as a subsidiary to Zenimax Media. Bethesda Softworks has only ever published games, while Bethesda Game Studios (a division within Bethesda Softworks) has developed the following 4 games in the last 10 years (not counting mobile apps or VR ports): Skyrim, Fallout 3, Fallout 4, and Fallout 76. Please stop giving Bethesda credit where it is not due.

hikeskool I thought Zenimax went public a few years ago, I guess it was just an outside investment. So it's not shady stock market transactions AFAIK... I just can't believe Bethesda fucked up Fallout 76 so badly without help. Remember when ZeniMax had just won that $500/$250 million lawsuit against Oculus? And with that win they're trying to sue Samsung using the Oculus win as precedent, possibly garnering more lawsuit profits? Well all that Facebook money cant be hidden in the Caymens, Zenimax has to pay taxes on it. Maybe Zenimax tells Bethesda "We love the idea for Fallout 76. However budgets are tight. Don't use any new art, no new assets or update the old engine, no new voice acting. Make it with what you have on hand, but throw in the dragon from Skyrim, the kids love that. And don't spend any manpower hours on it, get it out yesterday." Would Zenimax tanking Fallout 76 be some kind of tax dodge against that $250 million? Or do we all think any company could be this honestly incompetent top to bottom? I can't tell.

I got Downvoted for pointing out were non workshop Lead Deposits were with Pictures, I got Downvoted for doing a List of Events and how to complete them with Videos, I got Downvoted for askng where was the best place to Launch a Nuke for End Game Items (Nuked Flora), Got Downvoted for doing a list on Random Encounters, now all these posts were still positive, but they hover around 1 with a 57% upvoted, so they are getting as many upvotes as Downvotes, but the funniest was when I pointed out how Bethesda tried to hide, Bungie Style, about adjusting the Workshop Drop Rates. That post did actually manage to get to around 11 upvotes, but I got attacked, many of the posts litterally said they only Downvoted based on the fuckng title of the post "Wow, now the game is even less fun." despite stating right off the bat I played the game for over 200 hours. Also I hate to say it but you need to reevalute Fallout 3, it's a dreary mess, with terrible and pointless storyline, in Fallout 1 and 2 the world is being rebuilt and growing, between Fallout 1 and 2 there are new cities and hubs. In Fallout 3 everything is dead and dying, Bethesda built a dead world and put a few NPC's, they did the same in Fallout 4, even if you try to "build" the world with settlments they get fucked up within a day or two. My issue is it's meant to be 200 Years... TWO HUNDRED YEARS and this is it? This is all you accomplished? I mean in FO3 Bethesda get you to do a survival guide... Two Hundred Years after the world ended, um... No... if the average generation is 25 years, that is women are giving birth at average age of 25 (It would actually be closer to 15 in a post apocalyptic world as lets face it, it would get damn boring and fucking is always great to stave of boredom and in a post apocalyptic world there ain't gonna be a lot of condoms, but let's just go with the average of today's America), then in 8 generations no one learned how to survive after the bombs fell? (Edit: Also if it's 15 years average... that means 13-14 Generations have passed and none have learned how to build houses... Also what is with the Junk Walls and shit, I mean what, you can build doors with glass insets, but walls the glass is all broken... Bethesda thinks that will be level of craftmanship we ever accomplish.) That is literally what Bethesda are saying in Fallout 3 and 4. Funnily in Fallout 76 they actually made it believable with the Responders and Free States, and putting aside the fucking BS retcon, the Brotherhood of Steel, then they killed everyone coz they have been trying to do that since they took over control, let's face it the stories of people being killed are all recycled from Fallout 3 and 4, everywhere you go in FO3 you find skeletons and notes and holotapes on how things went to shit and everyone died. Also Project Purity is a building to purify water... but in Fallout 4 they have Water Purifiers... Also in West Virginia they have Water Purifiers, google: Flatwoods to Boston and you will see that to get to Boston it's a 10 hour drive, and it goes nearly past Washington DC... So in ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY FIVE YEARS, no one from West Virginia, the state that shares a border with Washington State... Went to Washington DC... but they went past Washington and into Boston... Seems Legit... Of course if you play Fallout New Vegas, you see a much more realistic depiction, the NCR have grown and spread from California to Nevada, the Hub has grown from it's simple roots in Fallout and Hubologists can be found around New Vegas, like in Fallout 2 where Vault 8 became a fully fledged City (called Vault City), Vault 21 has flourished and become a Casino. See people actually Rebuild things, they don't just live in hovels after Two Hundred Years, they grow and thrive, which is what they don't do in Fallout 3 and 4, in fact if you don't show up in FO4, all the settlements end up just dying from random attacks, which supposedly happen every two days and they were fine, but since you came along if you don't show up to help, they aren't fine anymore... See the pattern here, Bethesda can't make Fallout worlds for shit, they can make a world and call it Fallout, but once you literally scratch the veneer you realise the entire Law makes NO SENSE, I mean on Project Purity, we are meant to believe, that for 200 years there has been no fresh water and now it's a problem? So it was fine. Until you left the Vault? Oh and Todd Howard is scum, let's lastly look at the way Interplay/Black Isle/Obsidian treat the player with respect. Fallout 1, we emerge from a Vault, it's a new world for we the player and the character. Fallout 2, we and the character have experienced the world of Fallout, so our character is in a Village, he knows of the world, but never been outside the village, we and the character are both about to leave the Village and see what the world is now become. Fallout New Vegas, we have seen California a lot, now it's time for a new setting, we are still experienced in this world (they even take in that you played FO3), your character has travelled the world and is versed in how to live/survive, much like 2, to put us on the smae levle your character its shot in the head and loses their memory, so to them they are experiencing the world again, we both learn (technically they are relearning) the world as we go along. Bethesda... You Emerge, You Emerge, You Emerge... Why? Coz Bethesda have 0 nuance or understanding or respect for the player, it only technically worked in FO3 as it was a game new to many players, and could almost be seen as showing respect, till you realise, nope they just think every FO game NEEDS to start in a Vault... Oh and don't say FO4 was different, sorry, that 5 minutes in Preapocolypse, the footage they showed, in EVERY SINGLE PREVIEW AND PRESS RELEASE, the only THING THEY EVER SHOWED, was literally a gimmick, nothing more, it seriously doesn't count, it's not really part of the game, it's just so they can say, see, we did something new.... before literally falling back to You Emerge from a Vault, coz let's face it, you don't play the game until you Emerge, there are no choices of any meaning... Okay I need to one day do a video and not just type these huge novellas... BTW this is nothing against ye, I just am a Massive FO Fan, actually a True Fan, who is tired of this shit, also as is stated below, Subbed and love the Vid, I just feel too many people loved FO3's Gameplay which literally only worked due to VATS, I mean let's face it, FO76 proves without VATS FO mostly fails in the ranged combat department... Okay I'm gonna end there, Keep up the great work.

BTW wanna Clarify: I've played all 9 Fallout Games and all Expansions. Fallout 1, 2, Tactics: BoS, BoS (PS2/XBox), 3, NV, 4, Shelter and 76, and yes I finished Fallout 76 and yeah it's the Second Worst FO story... Oh and if your wondering the order of best to worst. NV, 2, 1, Tactics: BoS, 4, BoS, 76, 3. (Shelter has no story so doens't apply, also I said Story, not Game one day I'll do a video on how I rate each game based on gameplay as it's another long rant, and yes, I think FO3 is the most pointless and craptastic storyline of all, it literally makes less sense then 76, 76 only gets higher as it's 25 years after the bombs, and while the BoS "retcon" I mean totally lore rape made me physically hurt, especially when I got to fucking Camp Venture and the subtitles said Maxson, it narrowly wins out as the WAS alive at one point, unlike in 3, in other words 76 made more sense simply coz it's only been 25 years and not 200. Also in regards to BoS being above it, at least BoS followed the Lore and was funny).

Great review man. They knew this was shit when they released this game with a download code on a piece cardboard, and thought no one would question a refund. This is honestly comparable to the current state of Star Wars. It’s morphing into a mosh pit of hostility on either side, where most of the blame is really being orchestrated by the the people behind the varying decisions and don’t understand why people don’t like where a series they used to love is going. To those that say that “it’s just a spin off” or that they love the game, I have nothing against them. In today’s age, they won’t see that, because any attack on anything we like, ends up being a personal attack, whether it’s by design or not.

I still remember Fallout II. I played it much, much later, after its release. By the time I played it, it had such outdated graphics relative to what was playable that year. It was one of my most fascinating gaming experiences ever. I still remember remember the introduction, the "war never changes" speech, the haunting and beautiful sound that dances between the categorization of music and the category of "sound effect", sometimes you just didn't know whether what you were hearing was music or a sound effect, but you didn't care because it was oh-so-relevant and hauntingly beautiful. I remember how game world was so strange, and simple; it was beautiful simplicity. I remember how the combat made me think, how I always hated turn-based gameplay ... until I played Fallout II! Fallout II was what allowed me to get into Civilization games! Fallout II was a really, really strange experience, in how outdated and simple it was, yet how it left it mark on me pretty much forever. When Fallout 3 was released, my first reaction was, "WTF?" I looked around me, and found most everybody cheering and talking about how great the game was. The very few people who were also like, WTF?, were dismissed as old-school, die-hard Fallout fans who just weren't up-to-date and weren't progressive enough. I never finished Fallout 3. I don't think I even reached 50% of the story. Fallout 4 came, and by that point, the shock of "WTF?" just wore off. I wasn't shocked anymore. I liked Fallout 4 a bit more; the graphics were better, the dialogue and voice-acting was much better, and the romance was a nice touch that reminded me of my favorite game of all time, Mass Effect 2. However, I never finished Fallout 4 either. Both games lost my interest too fast. I always looked around on the web and wondered how people can keep playing this "sandox" experience with shit animations, mechanics, and poor polishing for so long, and even finish it. To each their own, I eventually said. People are different. Fallout 76, however, is something far beyond my "WTF" reaction to Fallout 3. Fallout 76 is, quite literally, the death of one of my favorite gaming worlds and lore. Fallout 76 is like a funeral ... for a game. Only that you don't cry or feel devastated, because it's not a human being who died, still, though ... you feel very sad ... for a while, then you move on to another game or thought as usual. It's just ... every time I remember Fallout now, I'm probably gonna experience that significant sadness for at least a minute. I'm gonna remember this gaming funeral. I don't know if anyone, whether new Bethesda executives or a new company will ever resurrect you, but just in case nobody does, R.I.P. Fallout ... and farewell.

I have to admit, I have grinded myself tru the story mission, just the nukes are left to do, the story itself isn't bad, BUT it all comes down to the presentation and just using holodisks and terminals is lazy and rarely triggers any emotion, some living NPC's who you could choose to assist would have helped. So far I couldn't see any lorebreaking, all that's in there is explained in a reasonable fashion the only thing I don't like is that the BOS does use the FO4 BOS garbs, they should have given them an own unique touch by using other uniforms, based on US Army uniforms. But again that's just the laziness the games excels in, the last part of the mainquest is so loveless that you can see that is was just quickly stitched together to throw it out for sale.

Many months later: Login, go to character creation, spend 20 minutes making a decent looking character, game crashes for no reason at all, all data erased, uninstalled. What an amazing experience. Thank you, Bethesda. This is truly the height of gaming. We have reached the pinnacle of technology, where the game becomes self-aware and shuts itself down to spare you from whatever terrors you are about to embark upon, in Fallout 76. Now if you excuse me, i have fallout 4 to reinstall.

21K, I’ve been overwhelmed with work, but just a quick note to say thank you so much for your latest string of what I can only describe as truly epic content. It all has given me a real lift during a very challenging personal time. This Fallout piece is something Bethesda should promote for you as a way to distract eyeballs from the flood of lazy, view absorbing screeds that have dog piled on this topic. Your presentation of the issues is more kind than they deserve. Thank you again for all of your hard work, and all of the new material lately. In addition to your streams, it’s all really been a joy to both view and support. Please let your supporters know how we can help you do what you do. When you first started your Patreon you told me that supporting you meant that you could dedicate more time and effort to your work. I am glad I believed you :) Hopefully many others have as well! Do get the rest you need though, and please have a great holiday season! Kindest regards, Jason

I feel like Bethesda really has a lot of potential. They proved they could make a addictive yet compelling story in a very immersive setting with the release of Far Harbour. That DLC was really well made and I believe they can do that once again with Starfield.

The Outer Worlds easily because it will be out sooner by about two years, it's on a decent engine, and its made by people who actually know how to make a decent RPG with a Fallout /Bioshock style. Bethesda are screwed...NOTHING they try and palm off on the withering Creation Engine is going to impress anyone. F.O. 76 was their death warrant as far as I.m concerned. I've been gaming for over 3 decades and supported Bethesda all the time, played EVERY Fallout game...and they dumb this F.O 76 piece of shit on us and try to make us believe is ;cutting edge' and testing boundaries. Its nothing but a broken money grab for a lazy arsed, no idea company. Fuck them to hell.

IAM GORT also obsidian have a point to prove and know they can perform a coup de grace in Bethesda If the new game is bang on we are all gonna hate Bethesda more because of what nv could have been and for how they fucked obsidian They might even end up getting the ip back - split their customer base to the point fallout doesn’t make enough to make it viable for Bethesda anymore I reckon daddy Microsoft would stump up that kinda cash to get fallout as Xbox exclusive title I think we may be in the third act 😎

I'd like to make the argument that Bethesda hasn't really understood it's audience for a long time now, and for me what really solidified this to me was when they tried to re-implement paid mods after the community had already rejected them. It also kinda conveyed to me the stockholm's syndrom that Fallout fans were experiencing when they were still willing to pre-order and even buy the collector's edition for Fallout 76.

@24:30 I think this is one of those utterly heart-rending moments that have transformed people's entire perspective - witnessing what is a form of ART have the floor torn out from under it and the foul claws of greed and group-think wrap around the faces of every character that's ever helped you escape, any storyline that actually made you feel something - dragged into the oblivion of fading memories, where it will hopefully remain unless reanimated and spat back into your life as something unholy, a shambling sex-worker made to strut ass up and down each calendar year until the once fine formula for a great game is reduced to mobile game-levels of Skinner box manipulation in lieu of what it once was. Certain gamers wonder why the fierce outcry, why such heat - take all your movies hard drive or disc and burn them. Tomorrow stitch the ashes together and accept the new truth.....which is leased to you, piecemeal. My crime is that I happened to be born and grew up with some truly great firsts, so my standards were set for me and I'm cursed now, fearing no gaming experience will ever bring me such enjoyment, that some clocks can't be wound back and that once you offer up the spigot of profit to those that seek nothing else......well, that's apparent in too many places today. I do get bitter and I there is a cynicism to my perspectives - I never imagined that these universes would be invaded, never thought that behind those doors wasn't a hive of well-treated staff and a well-intentioned publisher. Today it feels like staff are slaves and publishers are pimps and I feel foolish when my hard-spun enthusiasm for a game has me feeling foolish for having any measure of hope that we'll get out from under the enforced/manipulated gamegrid we're all playing under. Corporations have created some kind of Nightmare Bizarro Holodeck Wallet-fcuk 😐 you turn that into Great Expectations if you're able, but things are what they are - you are a wallet to most, give the money to those that treat you better.

Couldn’t have said it any better. Whether or not Starfield turns out to be any good, it’s honestly pathetic to see the hype train taking off again. I like watching a video like this again to remind myself exactly how many anti-consumer sins they committed. And more importantly, just how unrepentant and shameless they were for month after month.

Something people not privy to the any investor-supported industry fail to understand is that, we, the companies' managers are not "bad people" or 'only motivated by profit'. I mean yes, the motivation is profit, but it's not OURS. We are stuck between a rock, an anvil, a hard place, a voracious virulent fan-base and investor-reality. Somewhere in the middle. If we focus on quality, our investors threaten to fire us and "find people who can maximize profit", if we focus on profit, our player-base threatens to "find people who can maximize amusement". The problem is that, while we rely on both those groups, we really talk only with investors, generally focused on short term gains, at the cost of whatever product those gains rely on. I don't remember ever meeting players outside of our supposed focus groups (chosen by "industry experts" so that their kids can get paid outrageous fees for playing/working a few hours a day). I started in this industry with a passion and now i am forced to put up with disgusting practices that are protected by non-disclose which prevents me from shouting at the top of my lungs about how broken the system is. How short-term profit is killing long-term sustainability. But worry not, once investors have sucked us dry, they will simply apply the same hit-n-run tactics to another one of your money-generating pass-time. I assume they will never run out of industries to ruin, always one step ahead of what you want to take ownership of it, profit, and move. I would tell you to stop supporting AAA video games, but even indies are tempted into untold investment. It is an endless circle. People pay for things they want, other people profit from it and destroy it and move on. Unless customers stop wanting or spending, i doubt this will end. Please believe me, we have the best intentions, but we also have jobs...and how many of you have been forced to do things you would never do as a person, while attempting to reach a work-goal ? I am...so tired. We are not bad peoples.

I very much appreciate it when someone from inside the industry shares their thoughts and experiences. For the record I know the average "dev" is just someone who loves video games and is trying to make them for a living. I try my best not to tar devs with the same brush I reserve for PR departments and greedy developers. A message I repeat and will continue to repeat is that the average developer (as an individual) is just someone doing work, for a wage, for a game company, and probably shares a lot of the same problems and opinions as the average gamer. I am also aware of how top-down blind financial management wrecks brands and wrecks products. Add me on Twitter so you can message me mate, twitter.com/21Kiloton Feel free to pull me up if you think I've been unfair or made a mistake. I might be very strident at the point where I PRESENT my views, but Im very open minded when it comes to the process of formulating them.

Truly the game of games. How could you slag it off like that? We haven't even seen gameplay yet, and either way, everything is going to be fixed after the beta (not the beta), and obviously Bethesda is just trying something new, and anyway it's a spinoff, and this is their first online game, and New Vegas was also buggy, so you just sound like a blind hater.
