Alex, I’m so glad to have discovered your channel. I’ve only recently gotten back into board games and was happy to see two of my purchases in this video. I haven’t played Everdell and it’s expansions yet due to the COVID-19 lockdown and haven’t received Parks yet from the recent Kickstarter for the Nightfall expansion. Having watched several of your other videos now, I was also happy to hear your assessment of other games we have in common, or have both backed, such as Cyclades, Rising Sun, The World of Smog: Rise of Moloch, Cthulhu: Death May Die and Merchants of the Dark Road. I will definitely consult your videos whenever considering future Kickstarter game campaigns.

I watch your daily videos because something about the to-the-point approach in these conversations is really enjoyable. Your thoughts are well articulated, your pacing is good and you, more often than not, are somehow able to do these videos in one take. I find that our preference for games are relatively similar so I do look into your recommendations quite a bit. I do note that for many of the more thematic games, the variability of the game group can have a significant impact on the enjoyment of the game and a lot of the times it's more fun to play to the spirit of the game than to win. Anyways, great videos so far and I'm happy for the growth you've had over the past few months! :)

Always nice to see button shy getting some love. It's impressive what they do with so little components, and they run great demos and deals at conventions. Circle the wagons and sprawlopolis might be their best known but In Vino Morte is my favorite of theirs. It's the poisoned wine scene from the Princess Bride as a 5-10 minute social deduction game.

I was a communications major with focus on radio /TV. I pick up quickly on annoying phrases uttered out of nervousness. Your transition of "then we have" is not even noticeable because you've already framed the expectation that your explanation is going to be great...so it's like a Pavlov effect of the listener paying attention for what is about to be said. You're viewpoint is the thing that is causing that and what is getting your views. Think about it : you are really not doing anything special on paper. In fact, I've stumbled on other creators that after about 5 minutes of the same thing you are doing : I tune out. People need substance and you are giving it to them. Love it!

Glad to hear you enjoyed PARKS. I’m waiting on my reprint order at the moment. I’m very much looking forward to it. Everdell is one of my favorites so far and I have a feeling it will be a permanent game in my collection. I also loved Vindication. It really took me by surprise. We’re currently playing through Tainted Grail so once we’re done with that one we’ll be taking a break from campaign games for a while and get a ton of other games to the table that have been put on the back burner. This was one of my favorite videos of yours and I’ve seen just about every one so far. Lol I hope more channels copy this video idea. Maybe doing something like this quarterly would be great. Thanks for the video! Might I suggest Hellenica: Story of Greece? It is sort of a civilization builder with direct military conflict. Player turns are super quick and the combination of public and private objectives keeps everybody in the game throughout. The city activations / resource mgmt mechanic is really clever, and you'll always have more you want to do then you are able. It's a lot of fun and run time is quite reasonable.

All great titles! Games you have that I also own: - Circle the Wagons - PARKS: Your version of PARKS is the Barnes & Noble Exclusive Edition. It is the same as the regular edition but has a different cover and a bigger box. I backed this KS on a whim (I love hiking) and was shocked at the quality of this game (poor deal on KS though). - Suburbia: Looks like your copy is the regular CE edition. Still one of the best tile-laying game that also fits the "sim city" theme (though, Circle the Wagon's sister game, Sprawlopolis, covers that theme in the cheapest manner possible). - Everdell: You are holding the only box that doesn't have a CE version of. I joined on the 2nd KS and my only critique is it is very expensive. My wife loves showing this game even to casual players. - Vindication: My explanation is that it is "an euro-engine builder disguised as an exploration-adventure game." For COVID-19 lockdown, you can play this game for free on Tabletopia. [Ironically all acquired/played in 2019. not 2020.] Games that are on my wishlist: - Watergate: There is a BN exclusive edition of this game too: white box instead of black. I just never got around to picking this up when it came out and it's stock fallen in and out. It is like a light version of Twilight Struggle. - Marvel Champions: I'd probably have picked it up for COVID-19 lockdown, but I have a lot of games I can solo so I just didn't get around to it (also, stock issues when I do buy something). - Chinatown: played it a long time ago, never got around to purchasing. Still and evergreen title. The hilarious thing I observe is that if those two games were on KS, I'd definitely own them. :D I thought you passed on Monumental? :D I passed on the 2nd KS. I have a friend who is getting rid of his 1st KS edition. Minis are so beautiful… Oh yeah, "Hi, Alex!" :D

2 questions. Monumental, what is your houserule for combat? Vindication, what tiles do you use? We stopped using the monuments, which is sad, as they cover half of the box. We also removed the negative cards. In our games we seem to have a recurring problem with a runaway leader.

Vindication mostly base so far, haven't felt the need to mix things up yet. For Monumental, we just removed the rule preventing you from abandoning a location. Which means you can be more aggressive in combat, and deny someone spaces to build new wonders if they aren't putting at lease some combat in play.

Just yesterday I found dice throne champion edition, lords of Xidit and Robo Rally 2nd edition all for for 60 total. I was in the KS, I was suckered by the custom colors, picked the philly board due to personal meaning and of course they messed up the art on it and won’t fix it, pretty lame. I’ve played the app. It makes want to get it to the table, if at least to better understand how scoring actually works, lol with the app doing it, it’s easy to be lazy with it.

Just got to try out the new expansions for Everdell last weekend. I love how natural and simple the expansions feel and they spice up the game sooo much that I have no problem just playing all of them together. I just adore this game, and it feels like a great Terraforming Mars light with all the expansions in play. As far as games I've added this year it's really just been Project Elite and Reichbusters as full new games and then the two Everdell expansions. I did try to get the Oceans Deluxe Edition through my LGS, but sadly that did not pan out. Next month Jagged Earth will be arriving and I am so excited! XD

How is it I thought you got rid of Everdell. That is one of my favorites. I have only added 2 games in the year of COVID-19, First Martians, for solo play and Ishtar, which I saw at GenCon and was intrigued by. I have 2 kickstarters ordered, one is scheduled for December 2020 the other May of 2021. It was nice to see this video from you as I get the feeling that a game has to have miniatures to get your interest and this proves that not to be true. I own Lorenzo and really enjoy it, the expansion definitely extends it's life. Thanks for your time.

I was okay on everdell before, even going as far as hard vetoing pearlbrook. Now with bellfaire it’s one of my top games with its player powers, market spaces, and fixed simplified player objectives.

Bought the 2nd Vindication KS, still need to play it though. Hope to hear your thoughts about the expansion. M vs M thought it fix a lot of what people gripes about. Mandala I should pick up and try. Same for That’s so clever. Hadara I watched Game Night play it and it looked quite interesting. I want to look into Bruges now. Taverns didn’t look interesting enough for me. Like Quacks though, my wife despises it though, she made me pack it up as soon as we got the extra white chip. It makes me feel like I failed at introducing her to it and maybe should have did it differently. Some games I’ve played for the first time: Escape the curse of the temple, Cartographers, junk art and the quest for el dorado. I really enjoyed all of them. I also played my first exit game.. kind of on the fence about it but will definitely try others. Looked into Lorenzo when it was on a deal of the day but passed due to it looks more complicated that I wanted right now and overall kind of meh. Oh gosh and TM I finally played that ... wow what a fun game. Played the real version once, but I just bought the app and have been playing it quite a bit. Geez I think I need to take a better look at everdale. I KS both quests and villages of valeria, thought they were ok, but kind of mehh, really turned me off to the valeria games, and I feel completely fine with it. I think the biggest disappointments with villages is that the art work features a giant dragon, but it has nothing to do with the game, lol wtf? I have Legendary, 3 big box and 2? small box expansions. The game it fun... and the game can be very interesting, I think it plays best with 2 players, but it’s not always a great experience depending on set up. And owning legendary make me not want to even consider champions. I love Marvel, but I feel like most people I play games with don’t care about it, so I ignore Marvel games, it just seems like the IP is used so frequently.

So far I've added Limbo: Eternal War, Reichbusters, Monumental, Spirecrest and Bellefaire (Everdell), Shadowrift, Icaion, Barbarians 2nd edition, Marvel Champions, Dice Settlers expansion, Island of El Dorado Revenge expansion, Tiny Epic Tactics and Mechs, X-ODUS, Isles of Terror, and Roll Player big box of stuff. Oh and the Rise to Nobility big box with expansion. Looking like September-December is gonna be a deluge of kickstarter deliveries.

22 games is half my total collection :P I only started last year though and I am really trying to keep it under 50 games. Already planning on getting rid of some. Games I have from your video: Marvel Champions (I wanted just one LCG to play solo, seemed like the best choice for my taste) and Everdell (I love it and my gf does too). Still looking at the Everdell expansions but from watching videos I feel they would disrupt what I love about the core game. Kinda want Bellfaire at least for the extra forest locations and special events cards but it's pricey for that. Ganz Shon Clever also got this year and we used a quarter of the pad very quickly! Just got Lost Cities yesterday as I wanted a quick 2p game and we played 10 times already, better than I expected. Eyeing Targi for another good and cheap 2p game, have you played it? I'm not gonna list all the games I got this year since it's most of my collection :) I would say our most played games are probably Sagrada/Jaipur/Viticulture.

I like the additions Bellfaire brings. Simple. Spirecrest is good. It takes place during the seasonal changes and doesn't take away from the core worker placement actions of the game.

I have a couple of solo games, I arrived to finish the introductory Mage Knight scenario. I have one deck dungeon, Friday, and I am playing some games online. For the moment I use gameboardarena.com. I know Tabletopia too, but haven't find someone to play on that platform yet. Now to my question, in this video you talk about Yucata.de, what other platforms do you use. Yucata is in german? On the everdell game, there is a standard and collectors version of the 2nd edition, do you have any input on if the 'collectors' version is worth the extra $?

Tough one. I would say it isn't worth it,....but I definitely got it. Other expansions add more bang for your buck though.

The only thing I have to say is do not bother with the standard edition of Pearlbrook. It is like you are getting an empty box and the Collectors Edition upgrade kit for it costs more than buying the game itself. Pearlbrook is probably the worst of the 3 expansions (so far). Upgrade to the CE of the base game is reasonable (and also mostly unnecessary), so if you are on the fence, you can get that plus Bellefaire (has no CE). Then decide if you want to go the CE route before getting Spirecrest. Another possibility is to wait for the next kickstarter which should have the final expansion + probably an all-in-one big box, as well as discounts on the CE versions of the previous games.

Ah. Monumental. The one that got away for me. I really wanted it, and it's kind of my fault that I didn't. I watched the second kickstarter since it started until the end. I went back and forth on getting it, especially as Funforge improved the very lackluster kickstarter it started with. The problem I have is that if I back something on kickstarter (which is rare), I like to get everything game play-wise. But over $500 for everything was too rich for my blood, especially as the titans came out. And I tried to force myself to find a really good logical reason to spend that money. And I tried to force myself to go to a lower pledge level. But I just couldn't. And I'm fully aware that it was my completionist attitude that didn't allow me to get it. But along with the fulfillment concerns with the company, i didn't. Sad.

Ignore Antike, but play Antike II. No strategy game plays smoother and faster at 6p. I enjoy 5p and 6p more than 3p in that game.

This is why I need to stop looking at Kickstarter. Could get three or four top tier games for the price of one Kickstarter that may be terrible! "Oh wait, there's a game that's going to retail for $30 and I can pay $120 for some exclusive miniatures that won't be fully fleshed out for gameplay and never used? Forget Marvel Champions, and Taverns, and Everdell and sign me up for that instead!" I wish that wasn't a dramatic reenactment of my life...

Everdell with expansions will quickly hit that :) but yes I agree....for myself I go for both. Also why I focus on the value, at least if I can resell it's all good.

I am waiting patiently for Battle Cry: 150th Anniversary Edition and actually am working on a board to play Phantoms.
