Note: This is not a how-to video. It is for entertainment purposes only.
In this video, I install the Husky 32215 Center Line TS with Spring Bars - 400 lb. to 600 lb. Tongue Weight Capacity (2" Ball) on my 2014 Chevy Silverado LT 4x4. My camper is a single axle Starcraft Satellite Extreme RB17 camper. Very much like the Forrest River R-Pod 180 or Jayco Hummingbird. This WD hitch also has sway control. It's too early for a review, but I will give my first impression. On my test drive, it felt really good. I look forward to taking it out on the highway for further testing. I also use the Level Mate Pro leveling system.

Thank you for sharing, good content on this one. One question, how do you take the hitch off with the spring load bars attached?
@MyClutteredGarage

Thanks very much. You take the bars off using the same tool and process. Just raise the truck to relieve tension, flip the tool over and pry in the opposite direction. Sorry I didn’t show that! 👍

No. You put them on last and take them off first before you un hitch the ball.

Reverse of how you put them on, and make sure as much pressure is off them when you do or you can get hurt, also when lift up with the jack, that you're rear wheels don't come off the ground.

Like you I went back and worth about being better safe then sorry and decided to get this to prevent any sway on long distance camping trips. Update to this previous post of mine: I am happy to announce that this weight distribution kit is wonderful. I can’t even tell that I have my camper behind me. It makes the truck and camper feel and drive as one even driving 70mph on the freeway and when big rigs pass you... no issues what so ever. I definitely recommend this distribution kit to anyone needing one.

I have the same hitch for my Ford F-150 supercrew. Just got it when I bought my new camper (Rockwood Roo 233s) a few weeks back. My hitch was installed at the camper dealership but seems to work well though I definitely know I’m towing the camper as I can still feel a little sway. Though I’ve only used it a little so far, it seems critical that your vehicle and trailer are level when hooking it up and unhooking the camper. Otherwise the sway bars won’t hook on or come off easily. Thanks for the video.

Instead of using that bar tool to lift the bar into the trailer cradle, just lift the trailer with the tongue jack until the bars are completely unloaded, remove the pins from the truck end of the bars and slide the bars aft. Really fast and easy, plus less time running the jack.

I have the same hitch on my mini lite 25 and tow with a 2014 VW Touareg. Love it but very very noisy on turns. It may scare people in the neighborhood thinking the trailer may fall off! Excellent video thanks! I just purchased a Wolf Pup ~ 4000 lbs dry and wasn't sure I needed this but you convinced me. One thing I don't get is how hard is it to take off once you are setup at campsite? Also, its been a year, in that time did you notice an improvement in sway?
@MyClutteredGarage
@MyClutteredGarage 3 жыл бұрын
The biggest tip is to use the jack to raise the rear of the vehicle while the WD bars are still in place. That will make them easier to remove. Disclaimer here... I sold that rig soon afterward so I didn't get to use it much. But it definitely did tow a little better, and the sway control gave me more peace of mine. My new (used) camper is bigger and came with a WDH that has the chains and separate anti-sway device. It works, but is not as convenient as this Husky system. Good luck and thanks for watching!

You did a good job showing how to install this hitch. Thanks. I understand how it distributes weight to the front truck axle, but I wish someone could explain (so I can understand it) how this design controls sway. I still use an older Reese sway control WD hitch with cams on the ends that push against and bend the spring bar when the angle changes between truck and trailer. I understand how mine works. I believe that yours does also, but I just don't get how.
@MyClutteredGarage
@MyClutteredGarage 2 ай бұрын
Thank you! Yes, the sway is controlled by the friction of these bars for this hitch. That’s why they also tend to squeak or make noise after a while.

Thanks for the video. I have a question about this compared to chain style. Once you set it up can you adjust the bar height if you use a different vehicle? The chain system is easy to adjust, just use a different link.
@MyClutteredGarage
@MyClutteredGarage 3 жыл бұрын
Hi. Yes you can adjust the bracket height on the trailer, and also fine-tune it on the ball end of the hitch. These are nice because the bars also offer resistance for sway control, whereas the chain style is only for load leveling (from my understanding). Thanks for watching.

I just had this hitch installed on my KZ 180TH toy hauler and my Nissan Frontier. It seemed a lot easier than the Equalizer that I had on my F250/travel trailer. The stabilizer arms were a pain in the butt to deal with. I drove about 1500 miles from San Angelo Texas back to my home in Vero Beach, FL. The Husky appeared to work well, but toward the end of my trip, that horrendous "metal on metal" sound kicked in. It sounded like some type of African animal bellowing a roar. Very loud and annoying. I'm going to go with some lubrication the next time I go out and I'm open to suggestions as to how to minimize the noise. I was told by the Tech that installed the hitch that there should be a 1 inch differential between the top of the ball receiver and the top of the ball. BTW, I think the ball measures 2 5/16" versus 2". UPDATE: I took my KZ 180TH back to a local dealer to install a power tongue jack and I was told that the weight distribution hitch setup was not done properly by the original dealer, which caused the horrible metal grinding sound. ALWAYS drive your camper BEFORE you leave the area in order to test the hitch and adjustments can be made. I was charged $ 75 or 1/2 hour to make the correct adjustments and the selling dealer reimbursed me after seeing the pictures taken to correct the original install.

Will the hitch brake if the vehicle is going’s through a big valley turning into a gas station and the back of the trailer drags? The vehicle and trailer make a “v”.

in extreme cases it can pop the spring bar out of the hitch. This usually damages the hitch, not the bar. I know this because when i was appx 12, our family was on vacation towing a 28 ft travel trailer behind a station wagon and father took the exit from a gas station wrong, dropping the rear wheels of the station wagon into the gutter as the front wheels were approaching the road crest and the trailer wheels were near the high point of the gas station entrance/exit. It popped one spring bar out. You can apply a LOT of tension to the bars when connecting the trailer to the toe vehicle by using the trailer tongue jack to lift the tow vehicle's wheels off the ground. Hook the chains on the spring bars as tight as you can get the springs pulled up. When you lower the tongue and back of the tow vehicle it will amplify the tension. Father used this method every time, so the effect amplified by the depression he drove across in the worst way possible put some REALLY extreme loads on the spring bars. Note also there are 3 versions of the spring bar hitches I know of. We were using the REESE version that is easiest to work with and has the weakest hitch casting and cast ends on the spring bars. I now use the Reese version with the 90 deg curved spring bar. The version in this video is the 3rd version.

A couple corrections 1. You don’t use those hardened washers to set the height of the ball. How many of those are used is determined by the frame size of your trailer. Typically two washers for a 4-5” frame, 3 washers fora 6” or bigger frame. That angels the bars appropriately based on your frame size. You set the height of the ball 1” above your hitch coupler but you do this with the different slots of the hitch. 2. You use the 2 black compression washers on the top bolt, not one on each bolt like you did.

I'm actually not sure, but do you jack up the truck and trailer after the ball is locked? That makes it easier.

You said you didn't need any washers to set the angle of the ball head, how did you come that conclusion? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for watching. The spacers determine the angle, so based on the measurements in the instructions, the angle was correct without them.

We just got this hitch installed by the dealership where we purchased our trailer. Seems to work great, however it is loud when turning forwards or backwards like something is going to break! Is this normal?

The friction bars do make noise. But that's now the anti-sway works, so yes it's normal. Lubricating it would counter the anti-sway function. Thanks for watching!

@@paden501 I solved mine. I noticed the weight transfer to the front was just a tiny bit off. Adjusting the hitch or the U, wouldn't have helped. In my case all I needed to do was add 1 washer. Boom! Not perfectly quiet but it is no longer embarrassing driving the loop to get to the parking spot. Sometimes it makes nearly no noise at all.
