Honest question, are any of these technologies actually being employed in a major scale, capable of having considerable environmental impact? I've been seeing "revolutionary" bio-friendly technology for literally more than a decade, and most of them seem to go viral and disappear a couple of years later.

99% of this is feelgood BS that won't make a single dent in preventing this planet to go to waste. NO, not "every little thing helps". On the contrairy: this kind of feelgood sh!t is a huge distraction from the causes. For instance, coca cola and alike love these ocean cleanup initiatives, because it distracts the attention away from the cause, and towards the end user as the one who has to solve pay for the problem they created. The world is just a market, and looking green is just a new marketing trick.

Reminds me of the book Apocalypse Never. I had no idea how patronizing and unusable these types of innovations were until I read that book.
@vesoha
@vesoha 2 жыл бұрын
Most of these things are not intended for a major scale, but for poor areas in the world where the leaders have been paid to take in trash from industriel countries for ages and now the citizens are stuck with it. Alot of innovations are making it, but the impact is small since most is dealing with the problem after the fact. But yes ofcourse it is feel good stuff. Mostly it just means better living conditions on a local level in poor neighbourhoods but the enviromental impact for the planet is not noticable. But that does not mean it is not worth it.

I actually see the edible rings on beers and sodas at the grocery store where I live. I walk in there and no multi pack of drinks has those plastic rings anymore. A thing you can do if you don't know already with plastic rings, is before you throw them away, cut it up into pieces. That way fish and other sea life won't get stuck in the rings, which is what I always do. I'm very happy to see these inventions, and they will help tremendously!

It's not that the government didn't approve this. It's just the problem of supply and demand. For example, the cassava bag. The cost of production is twice or three times the cost of regular plastic bag, which makes it less desirable for companies to purchase.

I mean, a government would rather spend money on their own population and country instead of trying to slightly help the world. It's easy to blame them, but think about this: If the government spent a TON of money on sustainability, you'd probably have to pay more taxes, which means you'd have less money and you'd probably be way worse off right now. It's a tradeoff, and governments decide they want the short term positives for their population.
