Couple of things; One, I rarely release my videos in chronological order, so NO I did not "go back to my old intro music". Two, I can already hear the "throw away your crappy chronograph" people- and to them I say, I just filmed another video where I fired 70 consecutive rounds through my chronograph with 6 ammo types and two guns and did not get a single chronograph error. The chronograph errors are something that just happen when the light is bad, the bullet is small, load is smoky, i'm not accurate enough over the sensors and so on.....it just happens, and it happens to all light sensor chronographs. I just get tired of people failing to remember how I do many videos in a row with no errors, and then all of the sudden that one video with an error "THROW THAT THING AWAY!" It's just a really narrow viewpoint and annoying.

Back in the 80's Oehler came out with the first chronograph that used photo eyes (sky screens) Before that they used silk screens. Chrono means clock. When the bullet broke the first screen the clock started. When it broke the second screen the clock stopped. Knowing the distance between screens the velocity could be calculated. Until the Oehler you spent more time changing screens then you did shooting. I got one as soon as it came out. I was the only guy, in southeast Michigan, with one for several years. I was pretty popular at the range I might add. It was not cheap by any means. Most married guys wouldn't be allowed to buy it. I've shot it twice and it still works. A few years ago I bought a guest what. The Caldwell specs are twice as good as any near the price. Now lets move to your limp wristing. If you ever had a problem it's long gone if you have been cocking that Hatsan you got. Taurus hand guns, you're on your own. Can't help you there. And you're up early today. i

Nicely done. The 22 WMR is more useful than many people realize. It does seem to need a 3-4" barrel to consistently meet threshold velocity for expansion, but that is no great handicap. The 32 H&R continues to impress me- not only is ballistic performance good with light recoil, but accuracy is excellent, especially for a snubby. And of course you have the option to use 327 Federal in the LCR at any time. A 22 mag DA is probably a good choice for the recoil sensitive or those with weak hands. They might need an SA if their hands are very weak. Food for thought

I love both these cartridges but would take the .32 over the .22 all day long for one reason- those misfires. I know rimfires are much more reliable today than 50 or 100 years ago but by design, even considering modern improvements, they are inferior in reliability to center fire cartridges. I shoot enough .22 to know that the ignition system is just not that reliable. As for accuracy at 25 or more yards, I usually FF thru that part of the video because honestly, if there’s 75 or more feet between me and a threat I will run away if at all possible. If the coast is clear behind him pop a cap or two to keep his head down and run like hell. Saves a lot in legal costs down the road and you’ll probably live to fight another day. And unless it’s Gun Sam, Paul Harrell, or Hickock45 shooting at me my plan will likely work, lol. Great video as always, thanks!👍

Thanks for the great review, Sam! I totally want a LCR in 327mag. Because I have arthritis, I had considered 22mag, but have become aware of many people experiencing misfires due to hard primers or just bad gun designs. I've also heard of people getting rid of 22mag revolvers, because of horrifically heavy triggers (even with LCRs, where some examples are great and others not so much). I think 22mag is a great rifle round, but I personally wouldn't use it for defense (even though the ballistics & lack of recoil are good). Even though I'm sure that some have had good experience, I personally would always be concerned about reliability.

Thanks. Yeah, if you can find .32 S&W Long wadcutters and LRN, which I can almost guarantee you can, these have as little recoil as this .22 Mag, but with better performance. Roughly the same 100 ft lbs, but from a snub with a bigger bullet. And like you said, better trigger as those rimfire double actions are hard to use.

Two really cool cartridges! :) I think the 25 yard test is a fairly good indicator of what one can expect at, say, 7 yards or so. Shooting fairly fast yet well aimed shots at 25 yards would give one an idea of what they'd be capable of under critical stress at closer range. Plus, it's great seeing how practically accurate a cartridge/firearm combination is, anyway.
@GunSam
@GunSam 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it makes me feel good about that round for carry if I can hit it at 25. I scrapped a video yesterday that turned out awful for many reasons, mostly the ballistic test, but at 25 yards in my G2C the comparison ammo was 12" low at 25 yards. The reason for not posting it, is I did a long intro of "the best" snubby load in .357 Mag, and when I tested the ammo (which I extensively tested for years to come to this conclusion of it being the best) it was 100% different ammo than previous boxes. My new box of it went from being 1,150 FPS to 1,250 FPS. Went for no recoil to massive recoil and from no flash to fireballs. I hate when ammo companies do this. But in general you are right. I don't think it's fair even when people say "lets test this ammo" and film just a gel block and base the results solely on terminal ballistics. Terminal ballistics only matter if in the real world a real person can shoot it well, that's why I do long drawn out presentations, as to give the whole perspective.
@CeltKnight
@CeltKnight 3 жыл бұрын
@@GunSam And that is why we enjoy our videos so much; the detail and ton of information presented. I still think the bologna and fiberboard addition is genius. As for the ammo, manufacturers really should let us know when they change things. I don't think unannounced changes have ever gone well for the consumer. I hope you can get the "best snubby ammo" project sorted I'm quite curious. Way back in the late 80s/early 90s when my career began (I was a dispatcher and sort-of reserve then for a couple years) my snubby .357 was usually stuffed with Winchester 110 gr magnums. I've since learned that probably would not have worked out quite as well as I thought at the time. LOL

The 32 H & R mag is a dream to shoot through the Ruger LCR 327. I love that round. I also have the NAA Black Widow chambered in 22 mag/22lr as my deep concealed backup. Rimfire cartridges generally do have a reliability issue from time to time but I haven't experienced that yet though the Black Widow. The 22 mag, although not perfect, is a better round than some people realize.

Hi there Sam, always enjoy your videos, as most reviews only focuses on the performance of the firearm in an individuals hands while they are shooting. And they would most of times focus on the target, and not their hands and the firearm as well to indicate if they are jerky shooters, pulling the trigger, or a flincher. I've also noticed that even old shooters are still scared of sound and or the recoil felt of the firearms. This makes me not rethink my stance on .22. The thing is I never went below 7.65 Cal, which I never felt under powered and unsafe with. I was thinking, getting a .22WMR because of the recoil and if my mother has to grab the firearm to shoot, it would be off putting at all. My dad, typical Navy man, decided a revolver back in the day would get my mom into shooting, what he didn't factor into was, .357Mag wasn't the right caliber, and the weight alone of the revolver was intimidating to someone that was of a small stature and under 120Lbs, who also never shot before. For me, I was comfortable with the revolver at 90Lbs, but then again, I had been out shooting with them since I was 10 and 65Lbs (and no, as a grown up I weigh 150Lbs on a 5'8 structure). Even with law enforcement as my background for close to 2 decades (I did numerous other forms of employment before getting into my dream, to see if it would make a difference), and 9mm being the choice of caliber. I don't find that a bad caliber, I would still not mind having a .22WMR as my private carry, not even thinking that it can only be a backup carry. Sufficient damage, sufficient stopping power, and I haven't met a person that told me to shoot them with a .22 as it can do nothing. On the other hand, I do understand, that most law enforcement officers will tell you, if it isn't a pistol that is in at least 9mm, you are underpowered in a gunfight. I also understand that my brothers by career choice would say, anything other then a pistol is bulltwang. What I also noticed is, that due to lack of training from a work related instance, and the practice times we put in, that most law enforcement officers should rather just stay out of the discussion of any firearm. Let me see. If I have to acquire a new firearm it will make a few people shout, what the hell are you thinking. For the revolver: Taurus, 2" .22WMR For the pistol: Beretta PX4 Storm 9mm Full size Now I can already year the die hard Glock people telling me, the pistol I should change. My reasoning, I shoot with it at work, and how better to not rethink the mechanicals of my service pistol and it is light, polymer (I can't believe I just said I would take a polymer and not a steel firearm, okay I've changed to one in the last 7 years, and I started trusting polymer too.) The revolver, you would tell me is the wrong caliber and make, but personally, the Taurus we had in Stainless Steel and a 4" barrel has never let us down. Okay, I'm a blue steel kinda girl. I do not feel underpowered with a .22 and if by off chance they don't sell that caliber revolver in South Africa anymore and my only choice in revolver is a 38 Special, I would still feel comfortable, as long I don't have to carry a light, as I know. More weight to the firearm, the less recoil I will feel. Ps. Thank you guys for the input that is going to follow, but I should also mention. I probably have been shooting longer than most of you have been out of diapers.

As usual great video. Your intro music that's not why I'm hear I'm amazed people make it a issue. I've owned 5 chronograph in my shooting life they all are frustrating. I prefer to chrono on cloudy days that's when I get best results and as you have noticed a black sharply can be really handy on bad chrono days. You are amazing at 25yds with your lcr people may feel safe at that distance when they see the size of your gun they are in for a surprise. Personally I'm really not a fan of the heritage in any caliber. I'm not positive but my Ruger single 6 seemed like it was much higher velocities????? Who knows and even less care. When shooting .32 H&R Magnum Critical D. from my Ruger Single Six With 4&5/8" barrel (vs. my Ruger LCR with < 2" barrel), I see about 2" more penetration ballistic gel. With Hard Cast FP I get 4" more penetration from the SS over the LCR

What is different about the LCR and especially a 6 shot, is the cylinder rotates and then stops long before the hammer drops, and that short to medium distance in trigger pull length from cylinder stopping till hammer dropping must be like 4 lbs or something, and smooth as butter. If you pull the trigger on or past the first finger joint, the gun stabilizes itself and it super accurate.

I see people shooting all the time with thumbs resting against a revolver cylinder or up against the slide of an automatic. when I'm shooting right-handed my right thumb just touches the tip of my middle finger and my left thumb pad on the nail of my right, left-handed is opposite, when shooting both hands. am I just nit picking? I've personally observed flappy thumbs jam revolvers and automatics, and by my logic any technique that could cause a gun to fail is bad, but it's never addressed or mentioned by anybody but me. have you an opinion on the subject?

I agree with you. What if a bad guy started firing at you from 25 yards, are you supposed to wait until they’re less than 30’ away ? 20-25 yards is perfectly understandable to practice at.

I don't remember what I did or didn't say as this video is older, but I have found that by reducing your target size, either to a tiny one at 7 yards or just by backing up further, it makes my instinctive shooting better. Like if the goal was to not look at my sights, pop off rounds from 7 yards, I probably will miss, but always shooting from distance beyond 25 yards, tends to make my instinctive shooting from 7 yards significantly better. That's the main reason I do it.

I'm getting ready to start loading for my dad's 32 SW long. If I'd have known what a 327 was a few years ago when you could get anything under the sun, I would have one now! Since I got back into reloading and got a new Caldwell like yours and I love it. I forgot about doing my part with the lighting / shade. Drove 25 miles to test a few critical test rounds of 38 and put the rig in a patch of blazing morning sunlight. I was sad with myself and the results.
