.22 Subsonic ammo is quiet even without silencer

Many people use 22 subs when precision shooting also. That way the bullet does less weird behavior as it transitions between super and sub sonic while I'm flight. It makes the shots more repeatable and removes more variables. Fun stuff, good video

@aakashk530 Yeah I hear airgunners are doing big things with air now. Not only doing subsonic but offering a more precise charge of air vs powder per shot. Sounds like they're a thing now for long range shooting. After the pandemic nonsense they're sounding like a better idea for target and hunting use. I'll stick with powder tho for defense. But yeah learned a few things when I heard of the subs for long range in the end of a video I saw once they mentioned. I need to play catch up. I need to get one for fast firing massive 45+ caliber slugs in full auto, and a long range single shot. But before I do I wanna get with someone who has already learned the hard knocks first and guide me on what I want and what to avoid. I hate blinding going in to new things

I use CCI standard (1070FPS) without ear pro, and it doesn’t even make me flinch. It’s so quiet, hitting a nail with a hammer is louder.

Subsonic ammo is not always subsonic, as weird as that sounds. The speed of sound varies based on things like temperature and air pressure, so for example, say it's 32°F out and you're at 10,000 feet elevation, the speed of sound will be below 1,000 feet per second. So if you're "subsonic" ammo travels at say 1,050 feet per second, it's going to be traveling faster than the speed of sound at those conditions, and so you're bullet will still produce a sonic boom. Which seems to be the case here.

I don’t think it would be subsonic with that barrel length. You can still hear the supersonic crack on the last 5

Any barrel length after 16 inches leads to slowing of the round before exiting the barrel. Also, there's no crack on the last 5, as they are subsonic rounds. You're hearing the slightest click of the bolt hitting the bolt buffer pin.

Exact video I was looking for, I’m forced to plunk in the local woods, but it’s so close I’d feel better using quieter rounds. But everyone even the guy at cabelas was like “well sub and super sonic rounds ONLY work with a suppressor” and I’m thinking that doesn’t even make sense

I was at the range last weekend and the guy next to me had a suppressor and I was just shooting subsonic no suppressor and mine was quieter.

I find the standard velocity to be really quiet as well. Compared to mini mag it's like shooting sub sonic ... technically both sub sonic and standard velocity are sub sonic rounds.
