From The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes comes The Adventure of the Greek Interpreter.
I don't quite know why I've had an aversion to this story for so long. I had forgotten that Mycroft, Holmes' brother appears in it. Enjoyed recording it this morning! Good to be doing more Sherlock stories after such a long gap. More to come!
Lunch time!

Thanks to Greg's reading, bringing ACD's stories so admirably to life, I realize what an able command of English Mr. Doyle possessed. One really needs to hear his stories and not just read them.

I'm not aware of what KZbin dilemma that you did have mr. Wagland, however I would like to tell you 😊 that you are as superb as always in your narrations. I feel so grateful to be able to listen to you.you are as I have said before the only one that I listen to, and as I have already said many times before nobody can touch you. Hope that you are well, and continue with your narrations of Sherlock Holmes or whatever, because with your talent you bring life to each character that you portray just with the sound of your amazing voice. Finally you've been able to upload a new Sherock Holmes story, you very rarely fail to disappoint with the way you portray Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's masterpieces that you are somehow able to bring to life from the pages you read to the ears of those who love to hear you reading the life & times of Holmes & Watson as you somehow make these stories feel like your listeners are actually taken back to the late 1800's with the great voices & accents of these characters as we drift off to sleep, thanks Greg, great work m8ty, cheers 🍻 from 🇦🇺

Thank you so much for this, Greg! I really enjoy listening to all of these Sherlock Holmes stories that you do! 😊. I’ve been a huge Sherlock Holmes fan ever since my mother introduced me to the Granada tv series starring Jeremy Brett and David Burke/Edward Hardwick as Dr. John Watson when I was about 10 years old. 😊. To this day, in my personal opinion, Jeremy Brett is still the best actor to play Sherlock Holmes although Basil Rathbone and Benedict Cumberbatch did amazing jobs as well! 😊. My mother also bought me The Complete Sherlock Holmes book series for my 11th Birthday. About a year and a half ago I was able to travel to England and while we were in London for four days, my sister and I went to the Sherlock Holmes Museum at 221b Baker St. It was amazing being there! I loved London and I really want to go back someday. I really look forward to your next Sherlock Holmes story reading! Have a great week! 😊

I am falling asleep to these stories in order but I've been so sleepy that I only get a few words in this last 10 😊 nights or so. So this video has probably seen itself receiving at least that many clicks and sometimes I wake in the night and have to go back to the Greek interpreter again and again and again ~so maybe twice that many!. Finally finished early this morning with only a few minutes remaining, finally enjoying the end with my coffee! I mean, the suspense was getting pretty epic by then, lol! Thank you Greg. I do rather like the villain. The English man with the nervous giggle is a breath of fresh air compared to the parade of vengeful characters from foreign countries who get caught and tell their entire life story in relief. I swear, every time I hope for a good old whodunnit and every time Sherlock goes off somewhere without Watson and returns with an unknown third party who talks all about his life as an African candle-maker who swore revenge against the victim who fled from African Candlemakertown after commiting African candlemaking crimes.

Thanks for uploading! These are always so enjoyable to listen to. You're quite the talented voice actor and it really shows in this one: You're renditions of the voices, your tone, pacing _et cetera_ brought the story to life so professionally (just like all the other uploads). I like how you reflected Mycroft's lethargy in his voice. It's one thing for Doyle to describe it, but wholly another to actually hear it when he speaks. Your depiction achieved the aura of an intelligent man struggling to stay awake and interested perfectly. I never envisioned that and it was a pleasant surprise to hear. My favourite voice though has to be your portrayal of the giggling villain. That's just how I would have pictured him sounding, eerily horrifying as he coldly stammers out his threats amidst involuntary sniggers. That was just a delight to hear. I had to go back and listen to those lines again. He's such a creepy character and it was enjoyable to hear the lines actualized. He's one of Doyle's antagonists that you wouldn't want to run into in a dark alley. Enough tired ramblings from me. All the best!

Doyle has favorite expressions he is overfond of using, to the point that they become predictable. Holmes and Watson are forever “rattling away” in a carriage - in almost every story. There are innumerable ways to proceed, yet they always “rattle away.” And he falls back on the word “singular” in maddening fashion. In British usage, the word can mean unusual or unique as well as distinctive or amazing or surprising or remarkable, exceptional, extraordinary, etc. One wishes one could point this out to him and encourage him to be more precise.

They in the Granada version of Sherlock Holmes made, in my opinion, an excellent choice in having Charles Gray play Mycroft Holmes and now hearing the books ending I think it was a good artistic choice in how that episode ended. Sadly the american version (Elementary, which I am a huge fan of) of Mycroft Holmes, the missed in my opinion both. Having animosity against each other or rather Sherlock against Mycroft was very wrong. Hearing Mr. Wagland do the voice of Wilson Kemp was good but George Costigan played a very creepy Wilson Kemp.

...and now imagine please a guy in Poland having read the COMPLETE CANON of SHERLOCK H. in English!... It has ever since been my dream. More still: have translated one piece vof the canon into Polish language. It was the only piece of the Canon, touching the area of science-fiction: Bruce-Partington Plans! Being a shiplover myself, and one with long experience, I found the task as great pleasure. 👍♍😊

I was wondering if you were ever going to get over this aversion of yours and try your luck at a Greek accent. Nice job. And welcome back.

Thank you DarthWill3. Greek accent? - a hybrid - Harry Enfield's Stavros, Yanis Varoufakis and Nana Mouskouri, put through the Nutribullet of my mind and served with a garnish of prayer and desperation.

Beautifully read, and introducing Mycroft, a singular oddity. Pity the story itself is somewhat meh. Think Arthur was thinking about something else when he wrote this.

Yes, agreed, a little bit meh plot wise. But quite rich in terms of characters and backstory and all that stuff...

Very high focus in characters and atmosphere, which made it pleasant to listen to. But it's a real shame to introduce a mind even greater than Holmes, only to bring in a mystery so simple that Watson could solve most of it, and not even bring the story to a satisfactory conclusion. Hell, Mycroft's advertisement nearly got the interpreter killed, and neither of the Holmes brothers had made precautions against it. Unthinkable! It's baffling to consider that between Sherlock, Mycroft and Gregson, Watson turned out to be the only one who really did anything in this tale to help the client.

@@tomdekler9280 IMHO the explanation is simple: you remember how Sherlock and Mycroft chat about the Diogenes club members, completely immersed in their observation and logical thinking. I think it was precisely because Sherlock and Mycroft worked together that they forgot about precautions. When they´re together, they sort of escape into their own world and become a bit too careless.

When you read the stories you see how silly Nigel Bruce's portrayal of Watson is. Watson was not so.e bumbling buffoon. He was an author, a man of science(medicine) , and a military officer.

42:50 the man with glasses drew a "life - preserver" ? According to auto correct. Or are the captions correct and it's some ironic joke? Because he drew a pistol right?
