Thank you so much for this, Greg! I really enjoy listening to all of these Sherlock Holmes stories that you do! 😊. I’ve been a huge Sherlock Holmes fan ever since my mother introduced me to the Granada tv series starring Jeremy Brett and David Burke/Edward Hardwick as Dr. John Watson when I was about 10 years old. 😊. To this day, in my personal opinion, Jeremy Brett is still the best actor to play Sherlock Holmes although Basil Rathbone and Benedict Cumberbatch did amazing jobs as well! 😊. My mother also bought me The Complete Sherlock Holmes book series for my 11th Birthday. About a year and a half ago I was able to travel to England and while we were in London for four days, my sister and I went to the Sherlock Holmes Museum at 221b Baker St. It was amazing being there! I loved London and I really want to go back someday. I really look forward to your next Sherlock Holmes story reading! Have a great week! 😊

Thanks for uploading! These are always so enjoyable to listen to. You're quite the talented voice actor and it really shows in this one: You're renditions of the voices, your tone, pacing _et cetera_ brought the story to life so professionally (just like all the other uploads). I like how you reflected Mycroft's lethargy in his voice. It's one thing for Doyle to describe it, but wholly another to actually hear it when he speaks. Your depiction achieved the aura of an intelligent man struggling to stay awake and interested perfectly. I never envisioned that and it was a pleasant surprise to hear. My favourite voice though has to be your portrayal of the giggling villain. That's just how I would have pictured him sounding, eerily horrifying as he coldly stammers out his threats amidst involuntary sniggers. That was just a delight to hear. I had to go back and listen to those lines again. He's such a creepy character and it was enjoyable to hear the lines actualized. He's one of Doyle's antagonists that you wouldn't want to run into in a dark alley. Enough tired ramblings from me. All the best!

The English man with the nervous giggle is a breath of fresh air compared to the parade of vengeful characters from foreign countries who get caught and tell their entire life story in relief. I swear, every time I hope for a good old whodunnit and every time Sherlock goes off somewhere without Watson and returns with an unknown third party who talks all about his life as an African candle-maker who swore revenge against the victim who fled from African Candlemakertown after commiting African candlemaking crimes.

Doyle has favorite expressions he is overfond of using, to the point that they become predictable. Holmes and Watson are forever “rattling away” in a carriage - in almost every story. There are innumerable ways to proceed, yet they always “rattle away.” And he falls back on the word “singular” in maddening fashion. In British usage, the word can mean unusual or unique as well as distinctive or amazing or surprising or remarkable, exceptional, extraordinary, etc. One wishes one could point this out to him and encourage him to be more precise.

They in the Granada version of Sherlock Holmes made, in my opinion, an excellent choice in having Charles Gray play Mycroft Holmes and now hearing the books ending I think it was a good artistic choice in how that episode ended. Sadly the american version (Elementary, which I am a huge fan of) of Mycroft Holmes, the missed in my opinion both. Having animosity against each other or rather Sherlock against Mycroft was very wrong. Hearing Mr. Wagland do the voice of Wilson Kemp was good but George Costigan played a very creepy Wilson Kemp.

Very high focus in characters and atmosphere, which made it pleasant to listen to. But it's a real shame to introduce a mind even greater than Holmes, only to bring in a mystery so simple that Watson could solve most of it, and not even bring the story to a satisfactory conclusion. Hell, Mycroft's advertisement nearly got the interpreter killed, and neither of the Holmes brothers had made precautions against it. Unthinkable! It's baffling to consider that between Sherlock, Mycroft and Gregson, Watson turned out to be the only one who really did anything in this tale to help the client.
@martavdz49722 жыл бұрын
@@tomdekler9280 IMHO the explanation is simple: you remember how Sherlock and Mycroft chat about the Diogenes club members, completely immersed in their observation and logical thinking. I think it was precisely because Sherlock and Mycroft worked together that they forgot about precautions. When they´re together, they sort of escape into their own world and become a bit too careless.
