Thanks for making this video!! Extremely helpful. I took the old transmission apart to see what it looked like just out of curiosity. Pretty neat design really! Like a limited slip differential made of plastic. Not really able to reassemble and put proper amount of gear oil back in so I replaced it . Just really wanted to look at the broken one. Great video!!

Why not replace the belt when it is disassembled? Also, consider giving the discharge shoot a good cleaning when it is out. Thanks for the video.

That's what I was thinking. Going through all that trouble and not replacing the belt???
@TheSmallEngineMechanic10 ай бұрын
Thank you for the question. If it was my personal mower then I would have replaced the belt. unfortunately, it is a customers. And if the customer doesn't want the belt replaced then I don't replace it. Thank you for watching!

Thank you for this video. This is exactly what I need to do, on exactly the same model of mower.
@TheSmallEngineMechanic6 ай бұрын
No problem at all. Make sure you drain the oil from the engine before standing the mower on its end.. Also, pulling the spark plug before standing the mower will help with allowing any oil that makes it past the rings exit the cylinder.
@4GregF6 ай бұрын
@@TheSmallEngineMechanic Thank you for the advise. I started the job without draining the oil. Now that I've cleaned up my garage floor, I'll drain the oil and pull the spark plug to make sure I don't hydro-lock the engine. Cheers!

Thank you, have been looking for a good video that explains how to change the transmission on that same mower in detail. Mines been a push mower for a while now as being a pensioner I really can't afford for anyone else to fix it. In fact when I called where I originally purchased it from and asked about the part he just tried to sell me a new one.l told him I really like my mower shes old but she does the job well. I don't live a throw away life. 😂. If I can make one suggestion thou, you need to lift your head up a wee bit more as a tiny bit of detail is cut off, that is if the camera is on your head, but still can understand. Merry Christmas

Thank you! Sorry about the head being in the way. Sometimes it's a little difficult to work around the camera. I try to keep the machines as long as I can. Thank you for Commenting!

Nice video. Problem I have is the pully on the crank shaft is seized on. And the spur gears won't come all the way off. I purchased new spur gears to mesh with the metal gear wheels.
@TheSmallEngineMechanic6 ай бұрын
You might need to use a two or three-arm pulley puller for the crankshaft pulley. Make sure you spray the grears with some PB Blaster if they don't want to come off.
@scottpolenske92246 ай бұрын
@@TheSmallEngineMechanic I tried the jaw puller. Wouldn't budge, i dont really need it off to put it back together. And the old cams on the axle wouldn't go over the end they would slide but not come off. I pulled the axle out of the box to remove..

Thanks for posting this, trying to decide if I should invest in the trans or forget it
@TheSmallEngineMechanic Жыл бұрын
First, you might want to make sure it is the transmission. I've had people want me the change it when all that was wrong was the belt was stretched or the cable was mis-adjusted. If you've check those and there is still an issue, then in some cases the transmission would be a lot cheaper than buying a new mower.
@jamesberry276 Жыл бұрын
@TheSmallEngineMechanic mine started sounding like a bull doser going fast for a while, then it stopped moving. The plastic wheel gears looked good so I took the Trans out to use as a regular push mower till the new transmission arrives. Wish I saw your video before I started, too late now. Still handy for reassembly, though.

The belts don't stretch. the sides of the belt and pulley's wear until belt bottoms out, allowing slippage. notice the bottom of the groove is shiny???@@TheSmallEngineMechanicNo "Never seize " on the blade bolt??? No torquing the blade bolt with torque wrench ????

Hello. I plan to change mine soon. Should I empty my oil before I flip it on it's nose?
@TheSmallEngineMechanic5 ай бұрын
Yes, that would be the best thing to do. Most of the time I would just set the piston to it's top dead center and remove the spark plug.

@@wrenfan the belt is good the pulley will turn. The gears are good at the drive wheels. Most likely lost a gear in the transmission
@bdubbin16 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video! I'm beginning to troubleshoot my 22" Toro recycler. It seems to drive fine with the transmission engaged. The issue I have is that the lawnmower is clicking and it becomes hard to push sometimes when it's completely off... so the rear wheels aren't spinning freely when the traction cable is completely loose. I've played with the cable to ensure there's no tension on it but the power wheels still seem to be grabbing. I'm not sure if this is a transmission issue or something else. The gears in the wheels look fine (they aren't worn down badly nor have missing teeth.) Any advice would be appreciated!
@TheSmallEngineMechanic10 ай бұрын
My apologies for the late response. if you still have the issue with the transmission, giving the cable too much slack can cause the transmission to get tight when pushing it. I would slowly adjust the cable (If it's adjustable) and while adjusting, rock the mower back and forth to see if it makes any changes. Also, check your belt to ensure it isn't caught on the outside of either pulley. Again, My apologies for the late response.

My wheel gears were slightly worn on the edges. It was enough to make it hard to push. Problem was the wheel mounting plate being toed-in slightly to the front. This video explains what I found and how I fixed it permanently with very little cost. Hope this helps. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iIeukKOlbKeFkNU

Good video, I like it... Rear transmissions are a bitch to replace typically. Never considered standing it on end, I usually pull the motor and flip em upside down

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I never thought about pulling the engine. KZbin is such a valuable resource for learning and discovering new ways to approach tasks like small engine repairs. It's amazing how many different methods and techniques people use, and being able to see them in action really enhances the learning experience. It's definitely one of the things I appreciate about the platform!
@TheSmallEngineMechanic7 ай бұрын
When it comes to draining the oil or leaving it in the engine, rotating the engine to top dead center (TDC) is often a smart move. This action minimizes the space between the piston and the head, significantly reducing the likelihood of any oil passing through. Therefore, even if a small amount of oil does manage to get past, it will be negligible. Cheers!
