CNN was granted exclusive access as the NYPD re-opened the cold case of 13-year-old Minerliz Soriano's murder. For nearly four years, the department's top detectives & forensics lab kept the case alive, culminating in a history-making arrest 22 years after her body was found in a dumpster. #CNN #News

I am 65. When I was 14 my good friend Dawn Cave was murdered. In Bethany CT. She walked out if her house in the late afternoon and was found 30 days later in a field, raped and murdered. They believe they know who was responsible but no one was punished for it. I think about her all the time. We weren't even allowed to talk about it. It was so horrendous that our parents just did the Ostrich. It is important to solve these cases. Closure matters.

@@cocos.9529 Thank you for your sympathy. It is kind of u to respond. There is no God. Nobody gets punished after death. The punishment evil people live with is the knowledge that they are walking pieces of fecal matter. It would be nice to believe that evil people will be punished for all eternity and good people will spend an eternity with angels but I don't buy it. Dawn's life was stolen. As are all those who die by another's hand. By now I'm sure her murderer is dead and gone. I hope he lived a miserable life.

Her poetry and journal really humanised her. It made me laugh as she had cute dreams for the future and then I remembered what happened to her. She dreamed of a boy called Edward and if you didn't pause she wrote "on our date, we will go to the movies" and that he would "not drop out of high school" and one day "he will ask me to marry him and we will have a baby and will live in a house" and then she added "small" next to "house," which was so sweet. Oh, and she wrote that they will "own a Ferrari." When I first read this happened 22 years ago I still expect it to be the 1980s. Time flies people. As the cop said when you are on your death bed make sure your life mattered.

Her journal 📓 is beautiful and reminds us adult women when we were so innocent with so many dreams as a child ✨. Prayers and strength for her family 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾♥️. Kudos 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 to the detectives for staying on her case and never forgetting this beautiful angel 😇🙏🏾🕊🌹. Now she can rest peacefully knowing her killer is caught and will pay for his wicked act.

This is why I overwhelming support law enforcement despite many of the problems that exist in police departments across America. Kudos to the Bronx homicide detectives who never gave up on this case. I also believe in addition to technology, I sense that there was some divine intervention at work in this case also. The guilty will never get away with crime. In this life or the next.

Kudos to the retired Detective for his many years of service and dedication for this victim and the many other victims out there, and kudos to all of the other law enforcement officers who are out there giving it their all to make a difference when evil creeps into the lives of innocent people, especially children. Children being victims of any type of crime is unacceptable and I think that society in general needs to find a cohesive across the board program to reduce those types of crimes. It should include a national database to upload only child victim cases into so that they can be cross checked for matching information (child predators move around the country), it should have a national unit of elite detectives assigned to it, etc., etc. You get the idea. We know that the predators are out there and they continue to victimize children but, as a nation, what are we truly trying to do about it? It's beyond time to focus on this issue in a way that children deserve for it to be.
