New details were revealed during an arraignment for the suspect charged in the 22-year-old murder of a 13-year-old girl in the Bronx.
Joseph Martinez, 49, was arraigned Tuesday following his arrest on Monday.
He is accused of killing 13-year-old Minerliz "Minnie" Soriano in the Bronx in 1999.
Soriano's body was discovered in a dumpster. She was apparently on her way home in Co-Op City at the time of the murder.
Officials allege that Martinez, who now goes by "Jupiter Joe" and teaches astronomy to children, strangled the victim sometime between Feb. 24 and Feb. 28 of that year.

I suspect the same thing. There are probably other victims of his. He won’t live long in jail unless he get solitary confinement. A majority of prisoners don’t take the abuse/murder of a child lightly. He’ll probably be spending the rest of his nights praying that he won’t get shanked one day because when prisoners find out a fellow prisoner hurt a kid or kids they get nasty.

These losers have probably bent over backwards to keep their DNA off databases, only to be outdone by the spit of a curious cousin wanting to know what part of the world they originated from. I've uploaded my own to a database. And if there are relatives with skeletons like these in the closest, I hope my DNA helps bust them.

He's guilty because he got caught. I bet when he did it he was a demon not thinking about anything but murdering and rape. People like this are caught with Chris Hanson and honestly lurk in plain sight. Around the world. They show no guilt until they are put in front of normal people who are punishing them. They don't want to be punished. But bad things have consequences.

I remember when this happened. I went to school with a girl who knew the victim. I also remember feeling on edge going to Bay Plaza shortly after that knowing that a girl my age had been brutally murdered and dumped behind Hollywood Video. It’s just so disgusting. I always thought about her, even as recently as 3 weeks ago when I was walking in that area in Bay Plaza. I know this doesn’t bring her back but I at least hope that her family can rest a little easily knowing that her killer has been found.

@bronxkies
@bronxkies 2 жыл бұрын
@@DIVISIONINCISION For one, I need to be close to my elderly parents. That said, I ive in one of the nicer parts of the Bronx but it just happens to be close to the neighborhood this happened in. It’s like how there are affluent parts of the Upper West and Upper East that run really close to parts of Harlem that aren’t so pleasant. Bay Plaza (the mall where she was found) is in Co-Op City, but many people, like myself, in neighborhing areas like Pelham Gardens, Morris Park, Pelham Bay, Throggs Neck and Country Club frequent Bay Plaza , or malls that are farther out like Westchester or Long Island (if you have a car). The Northeast region of the Bronx has several desirable neighborhoods that people wouldn’t think are in the Bronx. For example, the farther east you go in Pelham Gardens, towards the highway, the more exclusive and affluent the homes are. There’s also Indian Village which is a small enclave in Morris Park that’s quite picturesuqe and hard to rent or buy in. Country Club and Throggs Neck also have beautiful homes and gated communities.

I was just "arguing" online yesterday with someone who thinks that it's normal for people to break in your house every once in a while and have crime everywhere around her. I was like yeahhhhh...nooooo we're not all living like that, that's insane. She got upset bc I leave my front door open during the day to let in air, it's a screened door. All my neighbors do this and there is always someone outside all summer doing yard work or whatever. I feel so sad for her that she bolts her door in the daytime. Now at night, sure we're sleeping, we lock up because crimes can happen anywhere, but you shouldn't be hostage where you live in the daytime.

@@lisas8244 there are quality control issues. If you watched the video the DA Offices said they dont know if these techniques will be admissible in court. The reason is the DNA was matched by familial aggregation. The defendant's DNA wasnt in the federal database. It was matched, presumably, by someone in his family who did an ancestry geneology test on a website. Then they extrapolated who in that person's family(males only) would have been the right age and residing in the area of the crime that transpired. Which means not only must the science be understandable to the general public and the pipeline of data integrity must be unimpeachable. And the thing is we wont know if the defendant cant hire his own defense attorney with private investigators which most people cant only rich people can.
