I was bowling that way in the 90s. Just started back after 20 years and thought I would be too old at 57 to throw it that way. Got on some really oily lanes last week and was throwing it pretty well no thumb. Hardest part is getting low enough so you don't have a tendency to pull the shot.

Yeah once he gets more reps and his release gets more and more comfortable he is going to put some heat on that ball. There was a 6'5 lefty back in the day that threw like this but you could tell he had been bowling longer and he threw the ball 24MPH it seemed like and the ball was spinning so hard it looked like it was vibrating.

I hear the 10 pin is actually a notoriously difficult pin to hit. I'm not sure about this, though. I'm still very much an amateur bowler. I only just broke 100 with my top score being 119. My average of 10 games hit 81. I'm just gonna keep practicing and hopefully I'll get better at the sport. Might even eventually buy my own equipment properly

I was bowling like that in the 90s. There was a PBA member Mike Miller who bowled like that during that time. Main reason was we couldn't hook a ball enough on certain lane conditions. Thumb out gave us a lot more revs. That's why everybody is going to two hand now.
