think the issue is at a certain rpm the piston speed gets so high it will struggle with keeping the oil film on the cylinder walls and run dry wearing the engine excessively, i know some engines are limited by piston speed and lubrication rather than the scare of throwing a rod/piston

I'm nerding out at how you can see the 1st and 2nd harmonic waves of the ITBs move as you adjust the runner length. Very cool. But, tbh, I would have left it at 8* of timing for the 'meatier' mid-range torque. Unless you need that extra 10ish kW past 9,000rpms for drag racing, the 8* advance would have provided daily driving experience. Either way, I know this was all done for science for us engine geeks, so thank you!

Not much point in increasing power at those high rpms, but the bump in the middle of the rpm range is well worth it, the 5deg advance with the shorter runners seems the best set up to me.

@Garage4age
@Garage4age Жыл бұрын
they are vernier gears. so work same as vernier caliper. when lines with round dots at ends are lined up they are at zero. the lines around outside are 5deg apart(when lined up with the inner with dot) the other lines on inside are your vernier measurements. add them to your measurement. say if your inner line with dot is just past the outer. count the inner marks till you find the first one that lines up with an outer mark. if its the 3rd one, that means 3 degrees advance.

My understanding of engine power is beginner at best. Why was there a dip at 4.5K and 5.5K with the more aggressive C cam and not with the B cam? And could someone explain why the shorter runner and advanced cam rectified the issue? Thanks. 🙇‍♂
@TheUltimateRanger89
@TheUltimateRanger89 Жыл бұрын
bigger cam gives the air more time to enter the engine per rpm, moving the cam 5° got the air moving into the engine early, when the valve opens to let air in it creates a vacuum wave that travels to the beginning of the intake, when it gets there a rush of air creates a pressure wave that rushes back down the intake to the valve. if you time it rght you can get that pressure wave to get to the valve when it opens and push extra air into the engine. that dip is when the timing is bad, the pressure wave arrived too soon and bounced back out of the intake creating negative pressure when the valve opens. so moving the timing and duration of the valve opening or the length of the intake can create power. now the engine gets faster but the pressure waves can only travel the speed of sound so you can only get the timing to work perfect for a certain rpm eg 7000 or 3000 at 3000 it makes the engine torque good and easy to drive the engine on the road. 7000 can have more power but uses alot of fuel so mostly for racing cars. if you read the comments or watch the other videos they make varible intakes and cams so you can get tht pressure wave to work perfect at high andlow rpms VTEK is variable cam timing

Thats gonna walk a boyracer spec mps (as in, stock with a poddy and other loud mods) if you raced one on the highway... in mexico. I raced one with a 160hp k20 powered mpv. Walked it at 180kmh. Tried to figure out how this van with a base model k20 beat a 2.3l turbo... so i googled a few dyno sheets. At 5000rpm, an mps makes 220hp. At 6500rpm, they only make 110. And they seem to have a reputation for blowing up near the rev limiter so yeah... if you keep it in your juicy powerband in top gear, youll beat an mps. With the lack of weight, you should be quicker too, despite the mps’s power advantage.

@@Drunken_Hamster was in 4th which is 1:1 . but diff ratio and tyre sizes to take into account. roller dynos calculate power from torque applied to the rollers and the rollers speed. The dyno needs to know rpm of the engine to calculate torque from the power numbers. thats why you see on some dyno's, if the rpm pickup doesnt work there is no torque number. my dyno is running in roller speed. so just shows the torque numbers being applied to the rollers. torque is just a calculation from power and speed. power is just a calculation from torque and speed.
