Sorry for necroposting but something justr came into my mind. Have you done fluid simulation with green swirl? I would say if you make baffles more pronounced and increases screw pitch you might get more airflow (coz there is faster fluid flow near walls of the pipe). Right now I would say those baffles work more like obstruction for air passing in the middle, so bumpung a bit with diameter could lead to the same base as short whites. also small taper like 3 deg through whole stack might help. Just speaking out of my ass so dont take it too seriously without fluid calculations first. EDIT sidenote - for not flat surface of the 3d prints those are working WAY BETTER than stock. I would say there would be some gains if the surface was more mirror like (abs plus acetone bath?)

What are the advantages of running the itbs in a turbo setup instead of just a single throttle body? And thanks for all the great videos, really useful information
@Garage4age8 күн бұрын
Hey, thanks for the donation. Mostly so the engine runs nicer at low rpm and idle. With a big plenum single throttle intake and or bigger cams, engine will stall out easier and not run down to as lower rpm. ITB's will run a lot better down there since plenum is on the other side of the throttles. An engine with bigger cams will run nicer with itb's than a single plenum regardless of plenum size or if its na or turbo.

Re-run it with side gapped plugs. It helps.
@Garage4age11 күн бұрын
with the 2.5mm gap, the strap was pushed so far to the side it was basically a side gap.

what i gathered from watching your video 1. not enough breathers = burning oil 2. your engine power output is not restricted by the exhaust. 3. you could have logged the AFRs on every run to see how much more or less air is flowing from the exhaust. I suggest that you do all the power mods like cams and turbo that will make your exhaust the restriction and do the test again and you will see how each affects power output
@Garage4age11 күн бұрын
1. Engine was built from 3 worn out and broken engines. only new parts in it were the bearings. not a breather issue 2. That's not the point of the video, 3. power curve shows the same thing. AFR change with the same injection rate is the poor mans dyno. if goes leaner you are making more power I wouldn't be testing megaphones and collectors then. I'd be testing how restrictive the exhaust is Some things need to work with other things, but good science is testing something without the influence of another thing. If went from a restrictive exhaust to a non restrictive exhaust, that happens to have a megaphone or different collector. there is no way to know where the gain / loss came from
@user-ho7qy4tx6v11 күн бұрын
@Garage4age how do you know for sure? 120kw is a very very good power output for a 4age na even at this power a 2inch system would yield the same results.
@Garage4age11 күн бұрын
@@user-ho7qy4tx6v big exhaust simulates exhaust ending after headers and collector section. if tune those parts right without restriction after them. can retain and even gain bottom end power with big cams (as well as the top end gains) over a stock cam engine. this engine makes more power everywhere than a stock engine and it runs 284/278 cams. It makes good power as it has all the good bolt on parts from my good engine which makes over 160kw

I hope in speak for ither with this idea but it mould be sorta cool to see if its possible to create some runners that actually focus on low end torque almost exclusively. You know for science. Probably something that really promotes super high port velocities in the lower rpm range. And if youbdidnfind something particularly good maybe theres room to build off of it

I just watched this video looking closely, and I'm surprised to see the new header and that big pipe barely picked any top end power vs the old headers and that tiny (2 inches?) exhaust pipe, when logic says exactly the otherwise (the bigger, the more top end and worse mid-range)
@Garage4age17 күн бұрын
big exhaust after the headers and collector will help off the bottom/mid on an engine with decent sized cams. hence why i was able to switch to the big cam profile earlier. if ran the big profile down there on the old setup would make even less power. less pressure in the exhaust helps with reversion at low air speeds. but doesn't work if header primary's are too big. The old headers had bigger stepped primarys. they possibly would have gained a touch of top end combined with the bigger exhaust. but wouldn't have gained anywhere near as much in the middle
@T90isback17 күн бұрын
@@Garage4age dude, thanks for your comprehensive reply, you are a true source of knowledge. I was suprised in a first moment that a K24 comes with a standard 2 Inches pipe, such pipe diameter in a 2.4 liter definitely sounds weird not to say ridiculous, but when I saw the big pipe one thinks 'definitely this will make the scavenging worse and only will gain in the top end, losing lots of midrange/low end' How deluded I was lol. Thanks for these videos!!!

make sure you check your piston to head clearance. If your pistons are flush with the block at tdc, a .5mm gasket will be a bit tight.

I know it's not your speciality, but would be nice if you do some tests with some carburetors like the Weber DCOE's or even bike carbs, and see if you can match the power curves with the ITB's (most likely not) but I'm curious to see the differences between both and what efect do ram pipes have in carburetors vs the ITB's.
